It lives up to its name. Gets rid of any moisture and overheating. Doesn't let the wind in

It is a lightweight grid fleece that wicks better than regular polyester t-shirts. I put a windshirt like the Patagonia Airshed or Houdini Air over that. I can hike down to about freezing in just those 2 things. If it is colder I add a light fleece too.

Personally I use the Patagonia Airshed. It’s not a rain shell (just water resistant) but I find it keeps me warm in almost all conditions and is more breathable than a shell. Given that’s it’s only a 40%chance of rain this would be a better option since you could wear it the whole race without overheating and it will provide sufficient protection if it does rain (you’ll still get wet though).

If running, it's way too hot now to use any active insulation jacket, so it's mostly the Patagonia Airshed Pro Pullover 130CFM windshirt. Though I probably should switch to my UPF 50+ rated Arc'teryx Phasic Sun Hoody, since the UPF rating on Airshed Pro Pullover is not specified though I would guess close to as low as UPF 17 as Patagonia stated in their recall for their various Sun Hoodies. For these jackets, only over baselayer shirt.

I have Airshed Pro and like it a lot. I used it mostly during winter in Pacific Northwest wearing on top of short sleeve t-shirt, which was comfortable down to upper 20s. I really like the sleeves that are easy to roll up if needed. The hood can replace a beanie if needed.
