It is a really nice piece. I can wear this really under a wind jacket and i will not feel too cold.

I find myself using the r1 chest pocket + thumb loops for warmth than the melly kangaroo pocket. However, the melly hood scoop with a cinch is much warmer than when I am fully covered in the r1. ​. The r1 air chest pocket keeps snacks warm when it’s cold and discourages putting in heavy items that will make you have a saggy, heavy chest.

It's form fitting but somehow has total mobility in the arms, something that I usually have trouble with due to having long arms. The near lack of pockets isn't an issue as I have a backpack and prefer to keep my phone in an internal chest pocket of my Patagonia R1 which I wear as a base layer. The length is good as it fits under my pack's waist belt but doesn't hang much lower.

This led me to purchase a merino wool base layer (Icebreaker 200 Oasis) and a microgrid fleece (Patagonia R1 Pullover Hoody) to start. I quickly realized that I would be able to wear the 200 Oasis and R1 while moving comfortably below freezing. As mentioned above, I am beginning to venture more and more into the shoulder season and see the potential need for additional layers in colder conditions.
