All in all I'm glad to finally have a Pentel Sharp Kerry in one of the only two versions I could stomach, design-wise. For anyone else on the fence about Kerry due to the amount of shiny metal, do look into the Craft Design Technology model.

Mine are the Pentel Sharp Kerry 0.7mm and the Uni Alpha-Gel Shaka Shaker 0.5mm. I’m a student, so I spend a lot of time on the go and do a fair amount of general writing. As such, I take the Kerry with me to class because it’s easy to just throw in my pocket and I use the Uni Alpha-Gel when I do homework or have a lot of writing to do.

If you're thinking about getting your first "quality" mechanical pencil, my recommendation is always to start with the Pentel Sharp Kerry. It comes in 0.5 and 0.7 lead sizes, looks nice, feels nice, has a robust mechanism, and is a relatively interesting design since it's capped to protect the point, but the cap can be posted to have a full size fully functional mechanical pencil. It is by no means the best mechanical pencil, but it's the only mechanical pencil that I can think of that seems to be universally liked.
