 And it's really simple to put the batteries in it. You just flip the front cover of it off, just like that, and you can see it takes three AAA batteries, which they actually include batteries with the pack, so you don't even have to purchase them separately. And then you can see you've got a really nice adjustable stretchy headband for the light, which you know, it's very comfortable to use. It's not heavy at all, so it's not going to weigh down on your head

9 ounces, and it is water resistant. So on the low setting, the 15 lumens, this is going to run for about 120 hours, and on high it'll run for about 60 hours. So you'll get a lot of really good run time out of it with simple AAA batteries. And as a woman, the thing I love most about this Petzl headlight is it comes in a bunch of different colors

 I'll be switching to something else as working headlamp functionality is critical in the wilderness.

 Unfortunately, a couple weeks later, same issue. It took maybe 20 minutes of fiddling until it turned back on. I'll be switching to something else as working headlamp functionality is critical in the wilderness.

This is a great starter headlamp that is bright enough for most things you'd need a headlamp for.  Unfortunately, after maybe 100h of total use, the headlamp wouldn't turn on. Replacing the batteries did not help. Eventually I wiggled the inner charging bits and eventually got it to work

 The Petzl Tekina, 20 bucks, Amazon affiliate link down below. You get the Petzl name, super bright, three different settings, super simple, super lightweight, comfortable. This thing is awesome. I've worn it on outside expeditions there, climbing mountains, running ultra marathons

 So this is 250 lumens. And I would argue that between the second setting and the third setting, there's not a tremendous difference from my standpoint or my perspective, but it is 250 lumens. You're gonna get a shorter, much shorter burn time than the other two settings. But it is brighter, but it's just, is it noticeably brighter where you would wear it on setting three rather than setting two

 So let's go to the second level. All right, you guys can see that. That is the second power level, which is 100 lumens. And you can see this is pretty bright

 I'm switching these Tikkina's out for Energizer LED Headlamps with HD+ Vision Optics, 4 Modes (Batteries Included) for $12.44 from Amazon Prime. They are waterproof and have red LEDs. They also use 3 AAA batteries like the Tikkina

 It was under $20, is waterproof and has red LEDs. The red LEDs really help if you're in a tent or hostel and don't want to wake everyone else up. I'm switching these Tikkina's out for Energizer LED Headlamps with HD+ Vision Optics, 4 Modes (Batteries Included) for $12.44 from Amazon Prime

For the same or lower cost you should get an Energizer 3 or 4 mode headlamp that has red LEDs and is waterproof with an o-ring seal. I bought 4 of these based on online reviews. They seem to be on the top 10 list of many product reviewers. I returned 3 of the 4 that we did not open

 First there's a single power button, it's large, has a tactile feel, and is accessible with or without gloves. To access the different brightness levels simply press the power button, one click gives you the lowest setting, a second click the medium setting, and a third the brightest setting. If you leave the Tikina on one mode for long enough, pressing the power button will turn the headlamp off instead of switching to a different mode. The Tikina has a thick and sturdy plastic coating covering the bulb and batteries as well as a high quality headband

 Let's focus on that simplicity. The Tikina has no variation in beam color, just white. The white beam is initiated through the power button on top, has three predetermined modes of brightness, and that's about it. I took the Tikina and Koki through the suburban trails of my hometown Long Canyon and the Upper Lost Virgins open space preserve each night of the week to stretch the legs and test the light

 The white beam of the Petzl Tikina appears brighter than 150 lumens and definitely seems like a flood plus the spotlight. Despite what the box says, it was bright enough for daily tasks, night walks, and a completely dark trail. I lit up the Petzl Tikina for 5 hours during my evening exploration with Kilky and I used the headlamp around the house quite a bit. It remained bright with very little change as the batteries decreased

 If you leave the Tikina on one mode for long enough, pressing the power button will turn the headlamp off instead of switching to a different mode. The Tikina has a thick and sturdy plastic coating covering the bulb and batteries as well as a high quality headband. I don't see any part of it breaking anytime soon, but long term use can't be commented on. Petzl does have a solid warranty, so if it were to have issues, I guess it would be covered

Petzl Tikkina Review

I initially got this to use as a "work light" for diy where I needed extra illumination. When I saw how bright it is I decided to make this my light source for hiking after dark and use my older LL Bean sourced Princeton Tec headlamp (My former trail light) for a work light. The second lowest setting on the TIKKINA is much brighter than the highest setting of the Bean headlamp and the lamp portion is slightly less weight too.

A good "no frills" headlamp!

We use headlamps frequently. This is a very good basic headlamp. The only negative is that there is no "Lock" feature to prevent accidental turn-on and battery drain while transporting. We knew this from reading the manual
