 I didn't even know that was a thing. So show us how much I know. This one is 12 pounds, it says. So for what that's worth to you, max drag is 12 pounds

 But yeah, I mean, it's durability. It held up just fine. I didn't have any issues with backlash, which really kind of surprised me for a reel I've never thrown before. So I am going to go another five on its durability because it did hold up through the night

 So short term and long term, it is a very durable product. So like I said, for the price of $59.99, it's a well worth the investment. Absolutely

Pflueger President: Test and Review - YouTube

 I have a 40 year old Zebco 1 that is still smoother reeling. Don't get me wrong, this is still an awesome product, but maybe it just takes a little time to break in, to the point where I like it. I'm going to keep it as a backup should my antique ever fail. I'm also going to explore different oils or greases, to see if I can get it to smooth out some more

While this is an extremely well built reel, for the price range it's in, I'm revising my score and lowing it by one star. As I stated above it is very solid and nicely engineered, it's just not the smoothest or best casting. I have a 40 year old Zebco 1 that is still smoother reeling. Don't get me wrong, this is still an awesome product, but maybe it just takes a little time to break in, to the point where I like it

Maybe it's because the reel is new, but it felt so stiff when winding in the line. It also left me with the perception that something inside the reel was a little off balance, thus making reeling a little less than smooth. Had it out on the water for the first time yesterday, total of 6 hours being used continuously, hoped it would loosen up a little bit, but still feels a little stiff.

I can't really compare it to any of my other equipment as my only baitcasting reel is a 30 year old Zebco Omega 1 or high end Shimano spinning reels, so I don't have any frame of reference with newer products. That being said, here are my pro's and con's:

 I'll give you a close up of what it is right here. In this piece, there's a slight gap here between this piece where the line sits, right in this groove. And what happens, let's see if I can get it to do it here for you. Sometimes when I cast, the line instead of getting caught in that groove, because it's loose, it gets caught in this little side bit somewhere

 This is a nice heavy duty setup. The first week I got this, Christmas of last year, I went out and caught some nice bass and pike on it right away. I've since landed some monster fish on this, including some salmon. So overall it's a really good setup

 And what happens, let's see if I can get it to do it here for you. Sometimes when I cast, the line instead of getting caught in that groove, because it's loose, it gets caught in this little side bit somewhere. And it actually snags, and I can't even make it do it right now while I'm trying to do it. But occasionally when I flip the bail and go to reel, I can't reel because my line is stuck right in here

This is a review for the Pflueger President Spinning Rod and Reel Combo I got on amazon. It is the 7 foot medium  rod with the 4000 size reel. Over all this is a good Budget Friendly Fishing rod and reel combo. Mine has one slight defect as covered in this video. Reel specs and affiliate links below.

 It may be me but I struggle to get within the diamiter of a volkswagon of my target when castign this reel. (With a OF reel, I can usually hit a pie plate). All in all, it's a good reel if you want the simplicity of a Cf reel for newbee's ( with supervision to watch for line twist!) but it's not going to replace my fleet of OF reels any time soon.

I've been spin fishing regularly over the last 55 years or so. In that time I've owned well over a hundred spinning reels. While it's never been hard to find a good open faced (OF) spinning real, quality closed faced (CF) reels have been as mythical as a unicorn. (Likely because closed faced reels are mainly marketed to beginners/kids)

I find the build quality, fit and finish to be as good as the Pflueger President OF reel ( of which I have 8 in various sizes). It operates smoother than the Daiwa and Zebco CF reels I've owned in the past too
