 My biggest reason was the issues I had using a Polar watch and trying to use Live Track with Strava's Beacon. I always send my tracking link to my hubby for safety.

Need a new watch. The Garmin 245 has obviously got the music advantage which appeals to me a lot. But the Polar seems a good spec  for money and a bit cheaper than the Garmin. Fork out more for the Garmin ? Thoughts ?

Terminate recording activity feature is erratic at best.

I use All Trails to track my runs as well as hikes.  My only issue is that I don’t think it has more of a socialization aspect to it like Strava does.

A lot of the runners in my group are using watches to track their runs. Seems like such a more convenient way than having to get my phone out every time I want to make sure I'm on the right pace or check distance at a glance.

Initial research has been focused on the polar vantage m, garmin vivoactive 4 or the garmin forerunner 935.

Anybody have experience with these devices?

Anybody have other recommendations I should be looking at?

At first I was only wanting to use it simply for tracking runs and heart rate but seeing some of the features that they have, like sleep tracking and just daily being something that is so useful to have around makes me wonder how I have survived so long without one.

What activity watches are we all using?

That said, the M430 is a great companion for outdoor running. While I had a few instances in which the GPS lost signal, I've experienced the same issue across various devices while testing in Brooklyn's Prospect Park. The M430 reconnected quickly, and didn't disrupt my flow for more than a minute or so. Another plus is that the screen is easy to read in bright sunlight, as you can see in the accompanying photo

 Instead, stats like distance, pace, splits, and time spent in heart rate zones are more important. Fittingly, the M430 puts these metrics front and center during a workout, and recording splits is easy. All you have to do is press the center button on the right side. 

 For starters, you don't need a separate chest strap to measure heart rate, as it adds six proprietary optical heart rate sensors. It also features improved indoor tracking capabilities, so treadmill runners can record stats without worry. Like the M400, the M430 is a great tool for serious runners, but a bit pricey for everyone else.

I currently have a Polar m430, which is a delightful little thing. It's great for walking, running and cycling, and it looks a bit retro (if you're into that kind of aesthetic!).

Polar was quite slow to embrace optical heart rate but with the M430 it claims it's managed to improve the accuracy of this method of monitoring so that it can rival chest straps such as the Polar H10.

The Polar M430 also has a Fitness Test function that uses the watch&rsquo;s built in heart rate monitor to do a quick assessment of your aerobic fitness levels anytime and anywhere, without the need for lab equipment and chest straps.

We tested the M430&rsquo;s heart rate skills on a number of different runs, at different paces and up against the Suunto Spartan Sport HR, TomTom Adventurer and a chest strap and while there were some anomalies and spikes at the start of runs and when there was a significant change in pace or effort, in the main the M430 performed well.
