Hello, I dont know if this is the right section if not, feel free to delete this post.

I am going to upgrade my systems, I already own a DS115J and a DS212J and I am in doubt between the Synology DS920+ and the QNAP TS-453D-8G

I am going to use this system for media streaming and containers/virtual machines.

I am so puzzled, I dont know what to choose. since is a sort of a big investment, i was thinking that maybe you can provide any cons/pro about the two systems.

Synology or Qnap?

 I didn't hesitate to order another one. It arrived and I put in my drives in the exact same sequence and started it up. EVERYTHING WAS THERE. Every single setting and configuration was in tact

Works great however warranty registration issues

First of all: What the hell is going on?  
I like my NAS that I bought 2 years ago, it's an AMD-powered TS-873.  
I have the full 8 drives in there with SSD cache and everything. The NAS has been working like a charm for these past two years, only having small hick-ups and requiring a reboot once every couple months.  
As QNAP is fairly reliable, I tend to update Firmware within 2 weeks of their release.  
And here we are.  
My NAS has been running for 25 days since the last update and since 2 days ago, randomly decided to "shut down the Plex Server to free up some RAM."  
It has never done that before. Also that Plex Server is the sole purpose of that NAS even existing.  
What makes this laughable: Immediately after buying it, I put 32GB extra in there. So the entire NAS is equipped with 36GB of RAM.

Let me repeat myself: What the hell is going on?

 Within a few months I had to format and start over. It got hit with ransomware. They came out with a patch but if you already did certain things (I did) the patch wouldn’t work.

I'm mixed on this one. Definitely sound better on paper than actual performance.

 I had sent the unit back to the seller to try to replace under return / exchange. I now am out the money for the unit since the seller is not doing their part. The seller intentionally ran out the clock on returns and I feel they have zero intention of helping me get back up.  QNAP put me in this situation as they would not RMA the board
