 It is only a problem if you are going uphill, especially on steep hills. Sometimes you'll have to get off your bike and walk it up. For smaller hills you can make it, but you'll just have to exert a lot more energy. Also the braking situation, if it doesn't come with a handle brake, it can be sketchy sometimes to brake by pedaling backwards, especially if you're coming up to a stop light with a lot of traffic

Owning a Retrospec Fixed Gear Bike for Over 3+ Years!

I recently ordered a Retrospec Harper single speed bike. It was delivered. the next day with Amazon's amazing service. The bike was not damaged and no parts were missing

 I was able to sand out the joint so it is OK now. This is a quality control issue and I will write to Retrospec Bikes about this.

 So that's this way. And the only thing here is the tire has these safety hooks. These like safety washers that hook into this little notch, this little hole in the frame in the fork here so that, you know, if you're hauling down the road and your bolts come loose, your wheel won't go flying off on you. So at least that's the idea, I think

 We're just going to take it for a little spin around the parking lot here. Alright let's get this out of the way. I'm still getting used to the coaster brake. Sometimes I press on it and I don't realize that it's on

 Is it rideable? Is it awesome? Is it upgradeable? Is it complete trash? If I end up liking this bike, I'm probably going to do some gravel bike upgrades to it, like swap out the tires, swap out the pedals, the handlebars. And I'm even considering installing a Shimano Nexus three speed hub so I can get up and down some hills. If I do those upgrades, check out the video right here. Another DIY mod I want to do to the bike specifically to the matte paint is to apply some gloss enamel and using these stencils put a design element on the frame

This is a difficult time for a lot of different reasons, but if you happen to be looking for a new bike, between tariffs and the pandemic, bicycle inventory is low and demand is at an all-time high. After having two bikes stolen from me back in July, I've been on the lookout for some replacements that will do the job at a reasonable price. Just when I was ready to give up, and wait it out, a Pre-Black Friday email hits my inbox from Retrospec, announcing a price drop on one of their entry-level fixie city bike the Harper with coaster brake. With the bike theft still fresh in my mind, the thought of spending $400 on a bike that might get stolen again, coupled with the incredibly unbelievable low price of $176, I decided to give it a shot and see what kind of bike you get at that price. In this video, I unbox my matte gray and orange single speed, assemble it and take it for a short ride and give you my first impressions. In future videos, I plan to perform some gravel bike upgrades and give it a custom gloss stencil paint job.

 I love the design, it's very well constructed, it feels very sturdy, like it's not going to collapse on me or anything. I love the simplicity of the single gear. It works like a champ, and you can go super duper fast on this puppy. You know, you could go 20-30 miles an hour if you wanted on the road on this

 It's only costed me a few bucks here and there to fix flat tires or to replace them. I really liked it. I feel like I'm cruising on the road. I think the most important thing when you assemble your bike is make sure everything's tightly assembled

 Occasionally the wheel things, these little knobs on the wheel will become a little loose, so check those every now and then and just kind of tighten them with your hands or the wrench. And then just make sure your tires are inflated enough. That's probably the most important thing. And then you might not be used to having this single gear

 I really like this road bike. It's worked great. It's only costed me a few bucks here and there to fix flat tires or to replace them. I really liked it
