The S5 Max is one among loads of great robots that can both vacuum and (kind of) mop, but Roborock has a better reputation than other combo-bot brands. If you’re looking into getting a robot vacuum anyway, and your mopping needs are modest, the S5 Max could be a good choice.

The Roborock S5 Max is a great choice if you're looking for a versatile robot vacuum at a mid-range price. While you're missing out on the Roborock S7 MaxV's real-time hazard identification system and self-emptying capability, this relatively affordable vacuum offers good value for money. It has a LIDAR mapping system that maps out rooms quickly compared to most optical sensor-based systems, especially in dimly-lit rooms. Its companion app is very easy to use and lets you set up virtual boundary lines that it won't cross or direct it to clean a specific room in your home. It delivers exceptional performance on bare surfaces like hardwood or tile floors and is remarkably effective when dealing with pet hair, though it struggles a little on carpet.

Unfortunately, while it does have a mopping system, it's entirely passive and doesn't provide any level of surface agitation to scrub away stains, and therefore isn't all that effective. Don't need any sort of mopping system at all? The Wyze Robot Vacuum is worth a look. It features LIDAR navigation at a slightly lower purchase price than the Roborock, though it has a smaller dirt compartment and a shorter battery life.

If you don't mind giving up the yeedi vac station's self-emptying capability in exchange for a lower purchase price, the Roborock S5 Max is a great choice. This mid-range robot vacuum does an excellent job of handling pet hair on a wide variety of surface types. It also feels very well-built and has an E11-rated filter, helping to seal in fine allergens like pet dander. Its LIDAR mapping system enables it to map out the precise location of obstacles in your home, and you can use its intuitive companion app to schedule cleaning sessions for individual rooms.

While there is a mopping attachment intended to scrub away dried-on dirt or stains on bare surfaces like hardwood, tile, or laminate, it isn't very effective. Unlike the ultrasonic system found on the pricier Roborock S7 MaxV, it's an entirely passive system that doesn't actively scrub away at the surface. Conversely, if you don't need a mopping feature and simply want something that excels when dealing with pet hair, the Wyze Robot Vacuum is worth a look, but be aware that it has a much smaller dirt compartment and a shorter battery life.

 The older mops were basically small capacity tanks with a pad that just attached to the bottom of the robot. They functioned essentially using gravity where the water slowly seeped into the mopping pad at a fixed rate. The S 5 max is the first rubber Rock to include a separate detachable electric water tank, which can hold quite a bit more water than the previous model. I've had a Roborock S5 MAX for a year now, and it's great. Much better than my previous robot vac (Neato D5).

I was thinking of buying the Roborock S4 for ~$279 from Amazon for its price + LIDAR technology, but it does not have a self emptying functionality. Is there another one out there around this price range that does? Or is it something that is way more expensive? I’ve read online to steer clear of the “big” brands like iRobot and Roomba.

Good quality robot vacuum?

The short version;  This is a terrific vacuum. My floors have never been cleaner. I am very satisfied with my purchase and could confidently recommend it. I really feel bad for giving it only 3 stars, however, a few minor issues detract from making it the perfect product

  - Great battery life. I have a 2000 sq. ft., 2 bed, 2 bath home and it can clean the whole house in a single charge

  The Good:  - The mapping feature is very good. I love that it maps in real-time, on the first run. It doesn't need to dock to generate the map like other robots. And it doesn't need to run several times to generate a usable map like other robots

All of them have a feature called recharge and resume where, if power runs low during a big cleaning, it will stop and go back to recharge and then continue where it left off. With dust bin size, the older s5 and the s6 have a smaller 480 milliliter dustbin, where all the others have fairly large 640 milliliter bins

 There aren't many robot vacuums on the market that can compare with the older s5. In terms of navigation, in other words, with the new generation, Robo rock just made something that was already really good about 20 % better in terms of cleaning ability. The Robo rock family is surprisingly similar across the board. They all have the same basic construction underneath but they're all well above average, at picking up debris off of the surface of hard floors and carpets

 Again, this issue just started a just over a week ago. I've cleaned the sensors, I do that weekly, I clean the filters, and the brush weekly. I clean the wheels.

 So, of course, it makes it much more efficient than the cheaper robot vacuums that just bounce around randomly to clean related to that the Robo Rock s5 is better than average at navigation efficiency, better than even most modern camera based or VIII slam robots. But in addition, I think the Robo rocks are still one of the best in business with its app features, for example the no-go lines or virtual wall barriers where you draw lines or boxes on the app to keep the robot from going where you don't want it To go, I found that it's easy to use very accurate and still one of the most useful features I've seen on a robot vacuum. The newer Robo rocks like the s4 and s6 do have upgrades from the s5 here, for example, they're a little bit faster at navigation with their bigger microprocessor, so they're just a touch smarter, but it's not like the s5 is slow or dumb. In fact, I'd say that besides the newer Robo rocks like the s4 and s6, the s5 is still one of the smartest most efficient robot vacuums around the battery life is a major pro

 So it's not like it's a fly-by-night company or anything, and it does seem like warranty. Issues are being addressed and taken care of by the company, according to the comments to break it all down in case you're wondering this is how I feel about the current Robo rock lineup in relation to the s5, all of which I will link below. I think the s5 is a better deal than the s6 and not just because it's cheaper. In my comparison I mentioned there isn't that much of a difference between the two except for the new processor, and there are some things like the power level and side brush issues that I actually like better on the s5

  If I'm going to either roll up the rugs or unequip the mop for every carpet, I truly might as well vacuum or mop myself.  We opted for a high end steam mop and a high end vacuum for less of a price and a much deeper clean.

Honestly review: this robot will not deep clean, but will maintain cleanliness. I ran the robot on three full mopping cycles on hardwood floor, and tested it by wiping a clorox wipe over the area it had mopped. Every time I wiped, the clorox wipe came out dirty.  While the mapping functionality is excellent, This robot cannot distinguish between carpet and hard flooring, so we had to roll up our carpets for it to mop
