My partner and I sit right next to each other, and our mics always pick each other's voice up which causes a very annoying speech-jammer effect. We've only been gaming so far, but we're thinking of starting up a podcast so I thought this would be an opportunity to get some entry-level mics instead of using our headsets. Are there any entry-level mics (&lt;$120) that you guys would recommend that wouldn't pick up nearby voices as much?

Entry-level mics with narrow focus

I bought this to use with a PreSonus AudioBox Go and found it to be basically unusable. Even at full gain on the AudioBox (50dB), the input level at 100% on Windows, and the mic less than an inch from my face, it was barely audible. Recording on Audacity, I needed to apply 8dB of gain to get to audible levels. Since I need to use my mic for recording AND Zoom/Discord/Slack, I had to send it back

Outstanding sound quality, but you'll need a beefy preamp

 Maybe you want a microphone that's gonna make your voice sound smoother and better, but this has been the most authentic, natural sounding microphone that I've used. Just to be honest with you, I don't think you can go wrong, especially for $100. And honestly, not even just for $100. If the PodMic were even more expensive, it's a great microphone at any price point

 I use the PodMic or we use multiple PodMics. I have two of them. And now this school year, since all of my classes have been moved online for at least the foreseeable future, almost all of those are done with the PodMic as well, because it's the mic that I know I can rely on to sound the best and work the best and just deliver when I need it to deliver. It's not perfect

 These are the technical specifications, the size dimensions, and the frequency response charts if you wanna get into the real technical side of this microphone, or you wanna compare it to other microphones you're considering, or maybe other microphones that you have already. But for me, as much as this stuff is important to understand, what matters the most is how it actually works in my everyday life, how it performs in my workflow, and the results that it gives me. And that's where I can say that the PodMic just really, really shines. I love microphones, I love audio, I love trying out different microphones, playing with different things, but I always come back to the PodMic for basically every episode of the three podcasts that I do

 Don't just go with what some handsome dude on YouTube is telling you to buy. Get the thing that sounds good to your ears, fits in your budget and works with your setup as best as possible. For me, I have found that the PodMic is the most natural sounding microphone. For better or worse, this is what my voice sounds like in real life

Rode PodMic Long Term Review - Still An Awesome Choice!

Definitely use dynamics, such as the Rode Procaster(best low cost choice), the Rode PodMic, or the trusty old Shure SM58. Both the Sm58, and Rode PodMic go for around $100. If you have the budget, RE320, SM7, or RE20 mics will work even better! Use the right mic for the job, and your troubles (mostly) go away….

It actually sounds really nice if one person is recording VO, but when they need to record a podcast, I’m getting a fair amount of bleed. Obviously. For a variety of reasons above my pay grade, it’s not possible right now to get the mics much farther apart than 36-40 inches, so do you geniuses have any tips for fixing the issue of bleed? Would adding a small reflection/isolation filter to the back of each mic help?

Ideas for reducing bleed in a small podcast room?

 In my opinion, that’s where the fault is. They basically want you to buy a $500 console to get the best out of these mics. I didn’t have that and you could tell with the sound - super noisy and you have to pump the gain which in turn creates and introduces too much noise.

Great mic but not worth it.

 I like how it has this podcasting sound quality. It's really deep and rich, and that's something I really like about it. Now, out of the box, the Rode Podmic sounds pretty good, but one thing that I've noticed is that it lacks a lot in the low ends. So by simply making some adjustments to the microphone, you can definitely make this mic sound 10 times better

 My first audio interface that I used was a Scarlett Focusrite Solo 3rd Generation, and this audio interface worked perfect for me. But I recently upgraded to the GoXLR Mini. Since I'm a streamer, the convenience of the GoXLR Mini is unmatched, and the fact that it had built-in EQ just makes this microphone sound 10 times better. To simply put it, dynamic microphones work best when you're talking directly into your mic

 Now, out of the box, the Rode Podmic sounds pretty good, but one thing that I've noticed is that it lacks a lot in the low ends. So by simply making some adjustments to the microphone, you can definitely make this mic sound 10 times better. Inside of the GoXLR software, I used three different adjustments, but these will work the same if you're using filters inside of OBS. The three that I use are noise gate, EQ, and compressor

 Since I'm a streamer, the convenience of the GoXLR Mini is unmatched, and the fact that it had built-in EQ just makes this microphone sound 10 times better. To simply put it, dynamic microphones work best when you're talking directly into your mic. With a condenser mic, it's going to tend to pick up more of your surroundings, so be aware of that. I really like the sound of a dynamic microphone

Rode PodMic Long Distance Review! (6 Months Later)

I recently purchased the Samson Q2U as a USB microphone, but I found somebody selling their scarlett 2i2 for $100 CAD (used for 2 weeks, no problems if truths been told)

I'm most likely going to purchase the scarlett 2i2. I will be getting it in a week, and was wondering if I should keep the Samson Q2U and use it with the scarlett, or is there another microphone that's better than the samson q2u in the same price range that's worth it instead? Thank you.

Samson Q2U + Scarlett 2i2 or different microphone?

Probably the last podcast mic you will ever need to buy.

 And full disclosure, for the sake of doing this review, Rode did provide me this microphone. For the majority of this review, I have the microphone connected directly to the 2i2 second gen with the input gain set at around 4 o'clock. I will not do any post processing, but I may boost it in post, so check the doobly-doo down below. And before you all leave a comment, yes I will be testing it on the Rode Caster Pro a little bit later

 In the mid section, you will see some recession in the low mids which will clean up some muddiness, and it also has a couple of presence peaks to bring the voice forward, and a cut around 7KHz. I personally interpret this as a way to cut some sibilant frequencies. And finally, you have a treble boost around 9KHz to add some really nice detail and clarity. And lastly, would I recommend this microphone? For spoken word, absolutely, especially at the $100 price point, I think they've made this a very appealing option
