 Okay Now I am banging on a keyboard directly behind the microphone to determine how much of my voice verse how much of the keyboard it picks up Okay. Now I am one foot away from the road Procaster now, I'm about two feet away from the road Procaster Okay, now I've connected the road Procaster to my computer using a $10 XLR to USB cable now I would not personally do this because buying a $230 microphone and connecting it with basically a $10 interface Borderline seems like blasphemy to me, but I know people would ask in the comments if this would work So I just figured I would include it and show you if it does or does not work I dragged this lake looking for corpses dusted for prints pried up the floorboards So on the electric and the acoustic guitar, I thought it sounded decent But personally I wouldn't use this microphone for instruments, but on the voice. I thought it sounded awesome It has a really nice low end that's really tight and full and then the high end There's some really nice presence that gives your voice a little bit of shine I also thought it did amazingly at eliminating background noise as I was banging on the keyboard and talking at the same time You could hardly hear the keyboard and as I moved off axis my voice dropped off pretty drastically So I would absolutely recommend this microphone if you're looking to bump up your audio game for voiceovers or your podcast But pretty much only if you're gonna have a decent interface and maybe if you pick up the cloud lifter as well If you're not that serious about your voiceover or your podcast I don't think it's really necessary to invest two hundred and thirty dollars in this microphone and then another 150 for a cloud lifter. Rode Procaster Broadcast Dynamic Mic Review / Test

<div class="md"><p>To cut long story short. My Modmic broke and now I want to get more serious with my audio so I can really deliver some good quality voice audio. The problem is however, when it comes to voice audio, I am a complete beginner and like many others, I do not want to spend a lot of money on equipment I do not need and/or regret in the future. This can be as simple as not spending that extra £10 for better equipment so If I want that extra feature (I will need to completely upgrade).After doing some research, I believe the Rode Procaster will be a great long term microphone I can use for podcasts and gaming alike. I also have the Rode PSA-1 boom arm and WS2 pop filter to pair with it. </p>

<p>This is where I am running into some troubles. Originally I was thinking of using the EVO 4 audio interface but after more research I learnt that the Mic benefits greatly from a pre amp such as the cloud lifter but I am aware that this could cost an extra £100-150. One of my questions is, can a more high end audio interface such as the GOXLR provide that extra gain without me spending money on a cloud lifter? This is because, this way I can get the extra gain I need for the Procaster + all the extra features the GOXLR offers. Also is there any other equipment and/or audio interfaces that you recommend that may be better than the ones mentioned but are not more expensive because It can have 4 XLR microphones connected simultaneously as an example? My price point And any tips would be greatly appreciated. (I apologise greatly for the many questions and I thank all that reply)</p>

Need advice for my Rode Procaster Setup

 While this is a very good voice capture microphone, I was hope that it would be more effective at minimizing unwanted ambient noise but unfortunately it didn't quite meet the high expectations I had when I initially purchased it. The baseline standard to which I was comparing this mic stems from my familiarity with the ElectroVoice RE-20. I was hoping for similar quality in sound, but the Procaster fell slightly short. Yes, the RE-20 is more expensive & widely preferred by professionals (so maybe my overall expectations were somewhat high) but that's not a slam on the Procaster

 If you need a mic of the absolute highest sound quality & nothing short of 'top tier' will suffice, I would look elsewhere if you are able to afford the higher price associated with more professional grade noise reduction voice capture microphones.  Still, I want to stress that this is a very good microphone for anyone starting out or for those who are searching for a solid secondary voice microphone.

Very good, not quite 'great'

 This is what drove my purchase for the Cloudlifter CL1 preamp in the first place, as I essentially needed more gain than the preamp in my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface could provide. With the CL1 in line, the ProCaster signal starts to kick up a lot better. This is important, because if you take the approach that I did initially of just dealing with a quieter signal and amplifying it in post-processing, you're in for an unexpected noise floor. Through clean preamping, it's great

 This especially comes out once I run the audio through post-processing. There's quite a lot of oomph to the sound, but not the same kind of punchy sound that the RE320 or RE20 makes, both of which keep a lot more detail on the high end of things. This is a microphone test using the Rode ProCaster Dynamic Microphone. This is a test I will play both the unedited and the processed versions

 I was originally nervous about throwing this much money at a microphone, especially knowing that a dynamic microphone typically wouldn't have the kind of bass response that my AT2020 condenser microphone would have, but I was immediately quite impressed. Through a raw recording, the ProCaster picks up quite a hefty amount of low-end and mid-low-end, which works very, very well with my voice. This sounds great, and with the benefit of eliminating background noise, this mic is one hell of a deal. However, the extra oomph on the low end seems to come at the sacrifice of a detailed high range

A Lot of OOMPH! | Rode Procaster Microphone Review

 Sound Quality: 3 stars, Value for Money: 3 stars; IMO it should be light years ahead of a Shure SM58 for the huge difference in price, this one is not. Material Quality: 5 stars because it's solid there.

 I did multiple recordings and tried different settings but honestly, I never got the clarity or the more natural, clean sounds and just was not satisfied at all with what I was hearing. I tried with others to see if it was just my voice and learned it surely was not just me. Try to imagine speaking thru a thick veil, or mask because that's the actual results I heard. With no eq applied whatsoever, completely flat and with adjustments it actually sounded marginally better

Performance does not equal reputation

 Let's start with features, this is a broadcast quality dynamic microphone, I talked about what a dynamic microphone is in my previous video for PodMic, but in a nutshell, dynamic microphones don't require phantom power, they are less sensitive, they are good at environments that are less acoustically treated, so they will capture less ambient sound and echoes and reverberation from their walls, and so they are good candidates for podcasting, making YouTube videos, and lots of other applications. Now keep in mind, this is an XLR dynamic microphone, now an XLR microphone cannot be directly connected to your computer, you need an additional device that sits between the microphone and your computer or tablet or phone, in this case we're talking about either an audio interface like the Focus for i2 i2, it has an XLR input and a USB-C output, this is an audio interface, you can also look at a ZoomHitch 6, which also has XLR input, and it is a recorder, but it also can act as an audio interface, and in this case I'm using the Rodecaster Pro 2, which is an integrated audio production studio, it has 4 XLR inputs, it can act as an audio interface, it has a USB-C slot that you can connect to your computer, and you can of course record onboard the SD card as well, which I'm doing right now, the point is that you can't just buy this microphone and hook it straight to your computer, so you have to think about the additional cost associated with getting an XLR microphone, this has a really good audio quality, now this kind of reminds me of the Shure SM7B, now unlike the PodMic, where I compare PodMic to the SM7B for the yoke design, the ProCaster reminds me of how the Shure SM7B sounds, if you EQ this microphone well enough, you can probably make it sound similar to an SM7B, I'll probably going to be making a separate video comparing these microphones, but that's for another day, so it has an internal pop filter, and I'm not a fan of it, and you'll find out in the next couple minutes, it also appears to have an internal shock mount, and I have absolutely no idea if it really has one and how do I even test it, but I usually keep an external shock mount just in case, it also has a full metal body construction which makes it a really sturdy microphone. In terms of raw specs, this is the spec sheet that I downloaded from Rode's website, these are the size dimensions, these are the frequency response charts, and this is the cardioid pickup pattern for the Rode ProCaster. Speaking of pickup pattern, the Rode ProCaster has a cardioid pickup pattern, which means that it will pick up the sound from the front of it, but rejects the sound from the side and the back

 Now remember when I said that the ProCaster has a built-in pop filter, and I don't like it? Let's test it out. Now to test plosives, I have these two Rode ProCasters, identical, which are exactly the same microphones, one with the windscreen on, and the second one using just the built-in pop filter, and we'll find out which one is better. So let's start with the one with an external pop filter or windscreen to test it out.  So who's this microphone for? If you're looking to start a podcast, a YouTube channel, live streaming and if you don't want to spend $400 on a Shure SM7B and if you have a little more budget than $100, then I think this kind of sits at the right spot when it comes to the price and the audio quality that it has. Then I think you should probably totally look at or consider this microphone. Rode Procaster Review

The procaster is the clear winner for day to day use. In my noisy (urban, computer in the room) semi-treated home office, I get a s/n ratio of 20-25db with the at2020. With the procaster, that goes up to 35-40db, which is enough that I can run noise suppression without it being noticeable.

I run a moderately successful podcast, I get about 2k downloads per new episode, and luckily have some funding from my job to run it (I work at a university). In the before-times I recorded in a treated studio on campus, so I wasn't too concerned about using a condenser microphone, because I was in a great acoustic space. I like how my AT2035 sounds with my voice, but it is still a condenser. When I bought it, now that was a couple of years ago, I wasn't as aware of the fact that condenser mics are generally a bad idea. If I could go back in time I would have bought a dynamic mic.

These days, I am recording at home and while I have tried to treat my space as well as possible, it's still my bedroom. And a condenser mic is *just so crazy sensitive*. So I've been considering upgrading to an SM7B, in order to up my mic game (just in general) and also switch to using a dynamic microphone which would do a better job rejecting room noise and reverb.

I am using a Zoom F6 as an interface. I bought it in the before-times in order to do live recordings with guests, of course that is less useful these days but it is also just a fantastic interface with very low self-noise, so from my understanding I wouldn't need to get a Cloudlifter or anything to boost the gain of the SM7B.

I have funding to upgrade my mic. It's not clear to me if my listeners will notice any difference (they may not!), but part of the question is, is switching from a condenser to a dynamic, just in general, worthwhile to consider since I will be recording at home for the foreseeable future?

In fact, my funding is kind of &quot;use it or lose it,&quot; so if I don&#39;t spend the money on this then I will want to spend it on something else, like advertising or something. I already pay an editor to produce my episodes. Worth it to upgrade from condenser mic (AT2035) to dynamic (SM7B)?

Whether it be poor ground issues or just the amount of electrical noise generated for my personal setup the procaster would consistently pick up signals of electrical distortion depending on its position when hooked up to my Rodecaster Pro interface. I literally had one angle of of about 5 degrees where I got clear audio

Beware streamers, but for podcasters this mic is great

 I like that it comes with the official road Velcros, a nice tight look. And now I'm going to turn off all of the processing in the RODECaster Pro mixer. Okay, so this is the way that this microphone sounds with no processing on whatsoever. This is the RODECaster Pro with no processing from the RODECaster, the RODECaster Pro sounds without processing from this special mixer

 And it also does a great job of isolating room noise. So if you move to the side of this mic, as you can see, if I move over here to the side of the mic, it doesn't pick up my audio that well. If I even move right over here slightly away from it, it doesn't pick up my audio that well. But right in front of the mic, it's got a really narrow pickup pattern right here in front of the mic, which is exactly what you want if you're looking to isolate room noise in room echo and what have you

 Then I'm going to turn on the filters that I have in Streamlabs. You can hear that noise suppression compressor and limiter. It's what I recommend everybody set up in Streamlabs or in OBS. And then there's the full process sound of this particular microphone with this particular mixer

 Then you have the official shock mount that the microphone actually sits in right here. I don't like the plastic joint in the shock mount, but overall the shock mount does an amazing job. I'm going to knock on the desk right now. Do you hear that? You don't hear it, right? I'm knocking on my desk
