Roland RP501R Digital Piano Demo with Alicia Baker

Hello,
I am not a pianist, I am looking for a piano for my daughter (8) who started to learn.

Basically I have to choose between 2 pianos with the budget I have and the availability of pianos in my town:

A- An old chinese piano with chords, an Hansen from 1991. A friend who used to do piano when he was younger tried it for me, he said it is a bit un-tuned, and that the keyboard feels soft compared to what he used to have, but otherwise no problem, it is in good condition. It has a metal frame.

B-  a roland fp10 from the internet, new, with a wood stand and a pedal. I read the keyboard has a good feel for an electric piano.


A- will be slightly more expensive because I will have to pay a guy to tune it. It will be also a pain to move it to my place. 
B- is simplier for me, and headphones can be used.

Help me decide. I m not a pianist I don't know if a real but old and cheap piano is worth it compared to a new electric one. What would you do in my place?

Choosing between two cheap pianos

 It has a really nice ivory texture on the top of the key. The only thing this is really missing in terms of spec would be its it's got one less level of sensor quality on it and also it doesn't have the wood core that you get with their pH A5 action. But besides that, this action is going to rank very, very well in the price range we're looking at. Of course, with the piano like the RP 501 in U

 Roland has done a really nice job of packing this instrument with some good warm bass tone. It's here on the 501 that was a bagpipe. but even if you stay somewhat focused on their specialized sounds, that's the concert piano, piano, and strings, ragtime, or anything else like a cloud. [Laughter] [Music] So a couple of really nice lush pads

 so and and so. Kudos to Rollin generally for making sure that this has been a major effort. So just to wrap up, here's the RP 501 from Roland To me, the last piece of advice I always like to give is who this instrument is for and who I think you know should be putting this on their wish list. This is a great all-round home digital piano

 For somebody who's looking for a good, well-rounded instrument with an action which is going to feel, you know it's gonna feel pretty natural for this budget I Think it does well in that category. Let's move on to the sound. Roland has done a really nice job of packing this instrument with some good warm bass tone. It's here on the 501 that was a bagpipe

 They are inferior to the 102, muffled on the low end and the keys even seem cheaper. I play classical music so sound and tone is very important to me. That's the down side. The plus is that it has some other cool patches and a bunch of preset rhythms you can accompany to

 The keys were weighted excellently and the piano sound was superior. Well i bought the 501 and lugged it home and set it up in my apartment only to be disappointed by the piano sounds. They are inferior to the 102, muffled on the low end and the keys even seem cheaper. I play classical music so sound and tone is very important to me

I should have bought the RP102

I returned a KROG it was not the EK 50 it was the G1, their higher end model and I am glad I did. The only other piano comparable, in price and in same level of quality. Caveat, even with a veteran and a teacher discount, with a warranty, it was over $1700, and I delivered the piano. Add another $150 if you do not have an SUV or a Truck and you need it delivered, with a Warranty it is over $2,000

I agree with the author and purchased the Roland RP 501 Here is what I love about the piano and what I think can be improved on, for the next model.

CONS-Speaker quality is good but could be better however, that is an easy fix. with some Bluetooth cordless or wired speakers. Many music stores allow you to keep it for a year and upgrade to the next model, less the taxes so eventually one can upgrade to an HP 705$3500 or a GP 6t09 price $10,500

The Roland RP501 and the Yamaha CLP 625 are the only two pianos in the good quality entry level piano level that I would recommend

I'm learning to play the piano again after years of not playing. This piano is beautiful and plays like a regular piano. I'm so excited and happy I bought this! I can't say enough good things about the wonderful store manager and staff at the Lakeland, Florida store!!
