I am planning a home network in my house. Nothing too special, I'm currently using edgerouter X + unifi ap lite + netgear gc108p

I decided that I will leave edgerouter X and the AP in the flat and take only the switch to my new house. 

I'm currently keeping an eye on APs: Netgear WAC564-100EUS and ubiquity AP U6. Which of these would be better spec wise? Any other recommendations? 

As for the router, I need something capable of handling fiber, but edgerouter X SFP seems good enough to manage it, doesn't it? Or should I reconsider my choice?

What are some decent access points right now?

On my 1G Google fiber I couldn’t get more than 300MBps no matter what device or where I was. Not worth the money

If you want to know the most impressive feature and the reason why you will never buy another WiFi device, keep on reading

 - documentation on how to upgrade the firmware is non-existent. No joke. I had to exchange emails with customer support for 3 days before they told me how to do it.  WORTH MENTIONING: - 5GHz transceiver operates on all the usual channels PLUS channel 165

 I couldn't believe it. I ran the speed test 4 times in a row. Each time, nearly lossless signal. I went 3 rooms down

I am moving to a new place in a few months and will have an opportunity to start from scratch building my own prosumer home network. My early plans were to just go with a fully Unifi network and call it a day. However, I've heard about lots of problems with Ubiquiti Unifi, from buggy software where desired features disappear and undesired features show up to telemetry to their recent data breach that they were very hush hush about. So now I'm looking at alternatives. I'll share my requirements and what I've looked at:  


Requirements: 

* Multiple (2 to 3) APs.
* Rock solid reliability and performance.
* A decent UX, from initial configuration to an easy to use and understand UI, to manual (not automatic) firmware updates.
* Integrated Wireguard or OpenVPN server at the gateway.
* Easy to configure and understand subnetting.
* A robust firewall that doesn't require me to be a command line guru to set up.

What I've considered:

* 100% Unifi network. 
* Unifi switching and APs, Netgate router/firewall.
* Netgate router/firewall, consumer-grade APs
* 100% EnGenious network
* Untangle router/firewall, consumer-grade APs
* Netgate or Untangle router/firewall, Mikrotik APs

Ruckus' range was much better. Performance was also slightly better with throughput, but especially performance in noisy environments and with lots of clients the really R720 shines. Stability wise they were on par, running for months without looking after them. Only Aruba's DFS channel implementation was not the best/unreliable at times

Soliciting some opinions and thoughts on these two APs - Aruba IAP-325 and Ruckus R720 (Unleashed). 

I'm able to get a used one of each for about the same price, so that doesn't factor into the comparison. I know typically Ruckus is much more expensive.

What I'm interested in is performance, reliability, stability, support (community). The webUI for either is not an issue, I can work with both.

Aruba IAP-325 or Ruckus R720?

It really does just work and has no issues. True enterprise grade gear. I'm using it at home and can even get a signal good enough to support streaming of video when I am multiple driveways down from my house on 2.4GHz

  Downside is that the firmware updates are hard to understand. You can still do them just fine, but knowing which of the odd multiple version numbering systems to use is confusing. I'm still not sure that I got it right. The newest firmware is only available to those with a support contract but this hasn't been an issue for me

The tech is real

Ruckus has been rock solid, easy to manage. You do not need video tutorials, Unleashed is braindead easy to configure.

Any personal recommendations between the two AP brands. Seems like Ruckus outperforms Unifi AP’s in all categories..! Can Ruckus AP’s be used without license fee and unleashed firmware? Any good tutorials/ videos out there..
