 It's certainly a ski that's designed to be skied at low speeds, medium to short radius turns. If you start pushing it, it does get really, really nervous really, really quickly. But for that person who's new to the sport, who's really trying to progress their skills, it's going to give them a comfortable, predictable platform to get better.

 This is a great entry level offering from Salomon that really allows the skier to get away from that kind of traditional frontside carving mentality and get on something after maybe renting a handful of times that's going to allow them to really start exploring more of the mountain. I’m moving to Whistler in October to work a season and I’m looking for opinions on possibly getting another pair of skis. I currently have a pair of Atomic Bent Chetler 100s mounted with Look Pivot 14s at the +4 mount. I am 184cm(6”1?) tall, 76KG (168LBs) and I’d say I’m an advanced skier. Does anyone have any ski recommendations for all mountain/off piste/powder skis? I have heard good things about Armada Declivity 92s and K2 Mindbenders but that advice was for NZ skiing conditions. Ski Recommendations/Opinions

Just picked up Salomon QST 98’s and I love them. They’ve been great on the ice and crud and get great lift in four inches of powder.

I live on the ice coast, I mean east coast, and currently ski on 84 width. Love the skis for carving and ice but looking to add to my collection for days where we get powder or trails are full of crud. Went to local ski shops and asked for recommendations. Was clear I wanted to keep the 84s, and this would be an additional set for the quiver. The recommendations I got ranged from 88-102. I think the 102s might be a tad overboard given we don’t get tons of fresh powder and I’m not off skiing in the trees. But the 88s seem not that far off from what I currently have and I question if they’d feel much different. I’m wondering if the sweet spot would be 90-96 range? Would love some advice from those far more knowledgeable than I am. Thanks in advance.

Talk to me about ski width

You'd be surprised at how snappy newer, wider skis are. You'll be just fine. I was skiing Salomon QST 99s in MN and wished I had gotten the 106s. Plus, they'll really be fun if you take a trip out west and get some snow :)

Hi all. I recently bought a pair of kore 105s on evo because they were 50% off and I wanted an all around ski. I just wanted to pull the trigger on them because it seemed like a really good deal. However, my unfortunate reality is that I live in the Midwest and I don’t have any mountains or powder readily available to me. Are these obnoxiously wide for groomers? I’ve never owned such wide skis but I do have race skis if these end up being too much. In that case I will reserve these for resort trips. I can realistically only have 1 pair of skis cause I live in a dorm. I guess I’ll just have to test them out first but insight is valued.

5’8” 145lb PNW skier (Whistler, Baker, Steven’s, Crystal). Been riding a pair of old Elans and soul 7s. I have a blast but ready to invest in something wicked. Soul 7s feel hard to throw around. Old Elans don’t quite have the float.

Searching for the unicorn balance of playfulness/responsiveness through trees and float through the heavy pow. Something that ideally performs through crud as well. Is there one ski that might fit this bill? If not, what two might be the perfect combo?

The Salomon QST 106 is basically the new version of your old ski. Underfoot camber with aggressive tip and tail rocker.

Unfortunately Salomon stopped this model a few years ago otherwise I would gladly have bought the latest version. I'm not sure the QST 106 are equivalent (plus they really are ugly) and I'd like to know what model would be a good alternative.

Rocker 2 were a perfect match for what I used them for meaning powder days in and around ski resorts. I also liked that they offered an acceptable ride on groomed trails. (No freestyle)

I'm really looking for something equivalent. I also own Rossignol Bandit SC 80 for groomed trails days, Amplid Rockwell for everyday rides and Volkl VTA 98 for ski touring and freerando.

Replacement for Salomon Rocker 2 108

I’ve been skiing for my entire life and consider myself a fairly advanced skier. I’m looking for a ski that super playful and light, something that I can just play with and jump around with a lot of flex and pop. Nothing that’s purely a park ski. I’ve looked around and I’m considering the Black Crow Camox or the Line Chronic. Can someone make a recommendation based on my experience and preference? 

I’m 6’4 205lbs if that info is useful.

Need a ski recommendation.

You don’t need that wide for on piste. The Rustler 9 that someone suggested is a great option. Salomon QST 92 is another good one.

I'm 5'11" and 175 lbs. I'd classify myself as intermediate+. I mostly ski in the west (Utah, Colorado, Canada). I can do blues with ease and most blacks, although I tend to stop often on blacks to catch my breath (the joys of being a sea level dweller). I stick to skiing on the piste. With rental skis, I tend to struggle on poorly groomed slopes like what you see in Vail. I would also like to improve my skiing on moguls. 

I am very early on in my search for ski's. I am looking at all-mountain skis around the 100mm width, with the Nordica Enforcer 104 being at the top of my list from the searching I've done so far. 

Any other options I should look at? Thanks,

Shopping for my first pair of skis

They were not enjoyable to me. Super railed (to the point where I felt locked into turns and physically couldn't get out), chattery, just didn't really enjoy them. Tried the Salomon QST's, another popular ski.

For the past 8 years I have been doing season ski rentals. Three years ago I had the Head Kore skis and they were fine. Two years ago my demo rental ended up being the 180cm Rossi Sky 7s, and I felt more comfortable on skis than ever before. I went into my local shop extra early this year to ensure I got the Sky 7s again. In two years I went from being able to make it a couple hundred yards through the trees without falling to ripping tree runs at ease and dropping 15 foot or less clifs with a mild success rate. 

This upcoming winter I’m moving to Vail and for my birthday my mom is gifting me my very first setup. A lot of people have told me that the Rossi line is too weak and will break over the course of a season as a local, and a lot of people have told me I need more ski under my foot than the Sky 7 offers. As for the first bit of advice, I kind of plan to ignore that because like I said in 8 years of demo ski rentals I have never once felt more comfortable on a ski. But the second bit of advice has constantly been in my mind as I struggle to keep up with my friends on powder days. So I’ve turned my focus to the thicker Soul 7s and am pretty much obsessed, and am currently sitting on a website with a pair of 188cm Soul 7s in my cart. 

I’m six foot two inch and 230 pounds and consider myself an advanced skier at this point. Does the Soul 7 sound like a good idea? Should I stick with a Sky 7? Is 188 too long? Do you have any other advice?

Question about the Rossignol Sky and Soul 7s

I’m gonna give another vote for the salomon QST ski. I think it skis well above its weight class and price point. I had the 106, but the wider ones are also stellar.

I’ve been using Atomic Vantage 85 for the last few seasons since I was just learning. However, I have been considering getting new skis (not that it’s necessary). Where I ski we get quite a bit of snow so I was wondering what size of ski would work best? I was thinking 100 (+5 or -5) would be a good width underfoot in order to do well in powder but not be too bulky for the rest of the hill. What sizes and more importantly what skis would you recommend? Thanks!
