Using the touchscreen as a pointer is fine in a pinch, but I use this thing to write large portions of this review, and not having a mouse or cursor is a real hassle. Now, I should point out that Samsung does offer another keyboard cover that does have a touchpad, but it costs even more at 260 dollars or over 300 on the tab S8 Ultra. When you combine that extra cost with a device that starts at 900, you're looking at a lot of dough to throw down on an Android tablet no matter how good it is

Other stock apps, such as Samsung’s Calendar, work well on the large display, as do some of Microsoft’s apps, such as Outlook and Office (both of which come pre-installed). Google’s apps tend to be more hit or miss, and productivity apps I rely on, such as Slack and Asana, are just awful stretched-out versions of their phone apps and don’t take advantage of the larger screen at all. Obviously, your experience will vary depending on which apps you plan to use, but it’s safe to say that Android still has a long way to go compared to Apple’s tablet app ecosystem.

Though Samsung’s apps work fine in DeX, many Android apps don’t know what to do when they are forced into a windowed mode, with small text, odd layouts, and sometimes they can’t even launch. There are other weird limitations, too, like the inability to use the mouse pointer to select text in the browser or an app — an action I do many times per day as an editor. DeX remains an option to use in a pinch, but it’s not something I would want to work in for long periods of time.

But I think the biggest hurdle with the Tab S8 and S8 Plus as they are is their pricing. These are premium tablets with big price tags — especially once you start to add accessories to them. Samsung will likely release some more attractively priced tablets to replace some of its older models, and it has been good about delivering software updates to bring some of these new features to existing devices, though the a company spokesperson declined to comment on future updates when I asked.

The tablet for Samsung phone owners

 I mean you have Samsung's Notes app and Onenote for note-taking and stuff. When it comes to the art apps, that's what I'm talking about and Adobe is working on their versions of software, but they typically focus on the ipad first and then move over to thinking about doing Android. So a little bit more lacking there for art in terms of app selection. but the hardware this is the story with the tab s family always is top notch on it

 In case you do forget to charge the thing, it still works as a pen no matter what. All right, let's talk about the specs. Oh by the way, the Ultra starts at 10.99 Call it 1100

 We're going to talk about all sizes too, and we are going to look at it now. So you really can't fault Samsung on the hardware quality and design much like the last generation. for example, hello, this looks just like the Tab S8 plus doesn't it? But this is the Tab 7 Plus, they haven't changed the design much. it's what's inside that has changed and it's been a while

 These are not cheap, but they are meant to compete with the Ipad Pro line and again the hardware is top-notch I'll tell you about the specs in a minute, but let's get the size and the prices out of the way As ever. there's the Tap S8, the smallest of the bunch. That's your 11 inch tablet. That one has an Lcd display and that starts at 699

-1* just because there is no charger included with the tablet. This turns this beautiful and fast machine into a very expensive paperweight as soon as the start up battery charge depletes. I've never before gotten a high end tablet or laptop that did not come with it's own charger. Especially lacking here because the device is capable of fast charging, which is a considerable upgrade and is not a standard feature

 So, is the Galaxy Tab S8 the best tablet for students? Well, Let’s find out!  Hardware  This year the Galaxy Tab S8 costs $50 more than its previous predecessor which is not bad considering some of the new features added. The Tab S8 is definitely not a cheap tablet, but it honestly offers a ton of awesome features that any student will appreciate who's in the market for a quality productivity-based tablet. I know some of you are debating whether you should get this or the iPad Air or Pro. And some of you are just looking for a quality android tablet for productivity and entertainment

 it’s probably one of the most powerful tablets on the market. Like I mentioned before, entertainment is terrific, but this might be the best tablet for multi-tasking I’ve ever seen.  Samsung Dex  Samsung launched all their new tablets with a feature called Samsung DeX, that allows you to boot your tablet into a PC-like mode, where you can bounce between different windows of apps and move between screens easily. In the past, my biggest reason for recommending students pick up something like a Chromebook is because things like hooking your laptop up to external monitors, or multi-tasking through different windows were way easier on a Chromebook, but clearly, that's not the case anymore

  Battery  The 8000 mAh battery on here is also gonna make sure that this tablet goes all day. It's definitely not the best battery life I've experienced on a tablet, but it's certainly enough for long productivity sessions. I typically get a full day of use on productivity days but when I add gaming or streaming to the mix, I do have to keep a portable charger with me.  Speakers  If you look around the sides, you’ll see four stereo speakers that get pretty loud and have clear audio quality, but you won’t see a headphone jack

 Overall, Given how expensive adding the Apple Pen is to an iPad, I definitely think this is a great deal.  Price  And that takes me to the question you’ve been asking: is this worth the base-model, $700 price tag? I can confidently say the Galaxy Tab S8 is one of, if not the best, android tablets in its series. I think at $700 USD for the base model this is competing with the iPad Air and iPad Pro. If you absolutely know you want a tablet in this price range, I think you only go with the iPad if you want to use iMessage, sidecar, and other Apple-exclusive software features, and you go with the Tab S8 if you absolutely need a stylus and the best tablet experience on Android

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 - A Student’s Perspective

 No one really buys a tablet for the camera. • As mentioned before, android apps are just not well optimized for this larger screen. Twitter for example doesn’t completely fit right in this design. I hope software updates will fix that, but it’s such a very specific issue that only Twitter can fix on the app

 I do believe that a software update will fix this, but expect some lag issues under that, if you use the DeX mode. • I paired the tablet with my Dell monitor and I found the connection was unstable. It will connect, then disconnect. This will be annoying if you’re hoping to use this as the main computer

  Cons and Oks:__________ • The DeX mode I found to be lagging at random times. Under this model, I found even simple apps like maps have a scaling issue. I do believe that a software update will fix this, but expect some lag issues under that, if you use the DeX mode. • I paired the tablet with my Dell monitor and I found the connection was unstable

 It’s bigger than any iPad out there. You need to go to a tech store to see the size yourself, words do not cut it. • The resolution with this size of a screen is crisp, deep in color, and balanced. Top of a line type of display

 I put on both my Google account and my daughter's. The screen looks great, the swiping on the screen works like my Samsung phone, the speakers sound good, and the tablet offers better value than the pricier iPad Air in terms of power, and included stylus. We put the protective screen cover on it and that's a good thing because after using it for 10 minutes, my daughter dropped it, split the screen cover and fortunately the actual device was unharmed. It is a must that you put a rugged case and screen cover on the Galaxy tablet

Great Tablet Option

so i took alot of time comparing the s8 tablet models and honestly outside of the screen i didnt see much reason to go with a bigger tablet. i looked into alot of reviews about ways to improve the screen on here with the eye comfort sheild and adjusting the intensity does make a huge differnce i use my tablet more on the go than ever before so bigger didnt make sense as i have enough to carry for a 12 hour overnight shift or going on trips with my wife and kids. the s pen is a major improved from the past and i dont see a huge differnce but these models as they say the other 2 have faster respond time. i paired this with the keyboard book cover so i can do more laptop like tasks

My poor old Samsung Tab A8 was getting old. It was also very slow. This new S8 is incredibly fast and outperforms my PC using an emulator for Android games. I was impressed

.how hard would it be to just include that little power brick in the box? Still getting the feel of the tablet. I tend to have the tablet resting on my chest as I watch TV. I don't like that it bumps the bottom lip of the tablet and takes me out of my app

 This new S8 is incredibly fast and outperforms my PC using an emulator for Android games. I was impressed. I'm disappointed that Samsung is cheap and doesn't include a power plug. They only include an USB C to USB C cable
