There are even larger displays available if you want the biggest size, and in that case, the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is the best 49-inch monitor we've tested. Monitors of this size are known as super ultrawide displays because they have a 32:9 aspect ratio. With a 5120x1440 resolution, this is the equivalent of placing two 27-inch, 1440p monitors side-by-side, which is great if you work in a multi-monitor setup and don't want to see bezels in between the displays. You can also place windows in the center of the screen without those distracting bezels.

It uses Samsung's Mini LED backlighting technology, allowing it to get bright and make highlights pop in HDR. It also provides greater control over the local dimming feature, resulting in a good local dimming feature. It means it delivers deep blacks, so it's a very good choice for watching movies in dark rooms as it delivers stunning picture quality, but it doesn't deliver perfect black levels like on the Dell Alienware AW3423DW. Although not as common as standard ultrawide displays, super ultrawide monitors offer a 32:9 aspect ratio and 5120x2140 resolution, which is the equivalent of placing two 27-inch, 1440p monitors next to each other. It's ideal if you need something for multitasking and you don't like having bezels in the middle of two screens like you would in a dual setup. The Neo G9 also has an aggressive 1000R curve that helps bring the edges within your field of vision so you can see more at once.

While this monitor delivers deep blacks for use in dark rooms, you don't get the same perfect black levels as the Dell. However, it's much better to use in well-lit rooms because it gets significantly brighter thanks to its Mini LED backlighting, so you won't have issues using it in a well-lit room, and the reflection handling is very good. With a 32:9 aspect ratio and 5120x1440 resolution, it's even bigger than typical ultrawide monitors like the Dell Alienware AW3423DW, and it's the equivalent of placing two 27-inch, 1440p monitors next to each other. It lets you see more of your game at once, so you can react quickly to the in-game actions. It's an excellent gaming monitor that delivers stunning picture quality; however, it doesn't deliver the same perfect blacks as the Dell.

Instead of the remarkable dark room picture quality of QD-OLED, it uses Mini LED backlighting that allows it to get extremely bright, which is bright for dark room gaming, and it still has a good local dimming feature. In terms of gaming features, it has native FreeSync support, G-SYNC compatibility, and a fast 240Hz refresh rate, meaning you can play high-frame-rate games without issue. The motion handling is great no matter the frame rate you're gaming at, and it doesn't have a lot of black smearing like on other VA panel monitors.

A super ultrawide monitor is good for those who have multi-monitor setups and would rather get one monitor instead. These monitors are rare, but they have a staggering 32:9 aspect ratio and 49-inch screen size, the equivalent of placing two 27-inch monitors side-by-side. Naturally, with a bigger screen, you can achieve a larger resolution. Most super ultrawide monitors have a 5120 x 1440 resolution, the same vertical resolution as a 1440p screen, but with more horizontal pixels.

Since these super ultrawide monitors are so large, they're curved so that the screen's edges are easier to see. However, there are often uniformity issues, and due to the larger size, the stands don't offer much in ergonomics. You'll need a big desk to place it on, and not all content works with a 32:9 aspect ratio; it's not a problem if you're opening multiple windows side-by-side, but you will see black bars at the sides when watching movies or playing certain games.

The best super ultrawide gaming monitor we've tested is the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9. It features Mini LED backlighting and has a good local dimming feature, making it a great choice for dark room gaming. It has a fast 240Hz refresh rate that you can achieve over a DisplayPort connection, and it delivers a great HDR experience thanks to its high peak brightness. However, you need to ensure it's updated to the latest firmware for the best HDR experience, as HDR is over-brightened before the update.

It has incredible peak brightness and good reflection handling, so glare won't be an issue in well-lit rooms.

It works with recent M1 MacBooks without issue, but you'll be limited to 120Hz instead of the monitor's max 240Hz refresh rate, which is still fine for office work. However, since it doesn't have a USB-C input, you'll need an adapter to connect to it. While the monitor has narrow viewing angles and isn't ideal for viewing off-center, it at least has an aggressively curved screen to bring the edges within your field of vision, so that they don't look washed out.

 I would like to i spend about half my life in premiere pro and just look at the size of that timeline. It'S beautiful, although really what it means is. I can have my project files and media browser to one side and then maybe split the screen. Half

Could i actually get used to using something this big? You can also see i've got windows 11 running on this, which i'll talk more about in a second. So first things first and we have to talk about this curve

 Every reflection. You'Ve got going on behind you and it can give you a sort of stretched, 3d kind of reflection effect, which isn't ideal so really you're going to want to take this down to your basement mancave. If you've got one at least block out all the lights behind it, so just like last year's g9 samsung again have gone with this proper sci-fi with a design. There'S a glossy white plastic body and this circular rgb area at the back or what samsung calls core lighting

Anyway, the mini led backlighting does really improve the picture quality, but if you're able to get last year's model at a discount, then it can be worth it

 Both the old and the new models have a resolution of 5120x1440 and a refresh rate of 240 hertz, but this newer version has a mini, led backlight, which we'll talk about in the review. The first thing that stands out for the g9 is the size. It'S an ultrawide monitor with a diagonal size of 49 inches. This might be too much for some, but if you've used a multi-monitor setup, then it's basically equivalent in size and resolution to two 27-inch 1440p monitors side by side with the advantage of no border

 You can't adjust the overdrive setting when adaptive sync is enabled, but the measurement and performance is equivalent to the standard setting, which is also the setting we recommend. Overall, if the frame rate drops when you're gaming, then luckily the response time is still good. Stick to the standard overdrive setting for the best result, regardless of frame rate, there's still some overshoot, but it's unlikely to be an issue. If you really want the clearest image when playing fast paced games, then black frame, insertion or backlight strobing features are useful to reduce blur caused by the persistence of the image during a full frame

 You should definitely connect via displayport as via hdmi. The refresh rate is limited to 144hz, even with an hdmi 2.1 graphics card. Now, let's take a look at the tests

 That is making it increasingly hard to recommend them. Our specific focus today is going to be the samsung odyssey, neo g9 and its hdr gaming issue that we've been trying to get samsung to fix since its launch on retail shelves nearly two months ago. We do have good news to share on that front in that an upcoming firmware update should resolve this issue and we'll show some test results and comparisons later to prove it. But i haven't exactly been left impressed with either the process to get it fixed or some of samsung's continual issues with product launches
