Samsung Q80R Overview and Thoughts

 He stated they did not have dolly's on their trucks. He changed his tune when I explained I had it on video. I called Amazon again and someone from the leadership team did call the delivery company and they worked something out. At this point I just wanted to get this over with so when the delivery day came I took the TV down myself and had it ready when they came

Getting it not damaged was issue - TV is worth it

 At the current price of about $3000 at the time of this review, it's kind of hard to recommend it when you could get the last year's Q9FN which has much better picture performance and most of its features for a similar price. Or even a TCL 6 series full array local dimming TV which also has support for Dolby Vision which Samsung TVs don't support. So what's your thought on this TV? Samsung Q80R (Q80) 2019 4K QLED TV Real World Review [4K HDR]

 It isn't at all convenient at all to keep a second remote nearby at all times. I did search and found a similar post from last year and the consensus seemed the be Samsung Q80R, but it seems it is no longer in production.

But the real complaint is the usability of it. Whenever it comes on you have to manually select the input, and them randomly you will have to reselect the input using the Yamaha remote. It isn't at all convenient at all to keep a second remote nearby at all times. I did search and found a similar post from last year and the consensus seemed the be Samsung Q80R, but it seems it is no longer in production

The picture is gorgeous! The smart features via the Tizen system are so-so, and Tizen is the redheaded stepchild of TV operating systems. The only real PITA is the tuner for over-the-air channels, which operates kind of randomly. If I'm on channel 4 and want to get to channel 59, it takes 3-4 times to scroll to 59 because the TV wants to revert to 4. Once I get to 59 and hit the back button to go back to 4, it will go to a random channel like 30

Great picture, useless tuner

 Rounding up the performance we have the excellent Tizen operating system and Smart TV which is one of the best on the market for speed, flexibility and stability with an excellent choice of applications including Apple TV. As we keep saying within our reviews there's no such thing as the perfect TV and the technology that matches you will come down to your needs and uses. For those AVForums members who want a TV for watching film content within a dim room we would still steer you towards an OLED TV at this price point and market level. However for those that need an all round workhorse for a normal living room it offers excellent Smart TV apps and flexibility with voice assistants for modern day living rooms

 The rear of the set is plastic and has a striped designer with connections on the rear left when looking from behind. All the connections are sideways facing with two USB ports and an optical digital output, four full bandwidth 18Gbps HDMI ports with ARC on HDMI4 and below these are a LAN port along with satellite and RF antennas. The power connection is to the right of the panel and there are some cable management grooves. The remote controls supplied with the Q80R are the traditional full size plastic affair with all the buttons you'll ever need, along with a thin One Remote which is made from black plastic

Samsung Q80R QLED TV Review

The Q90R is the reigning champ... but I can't find one. What's the next best thing?

First off, this TV has a great picture as well as a slick interface for the apps and smart features. If those 2 things were all that mattered this TV would have been the best I've ever owned. Which brings me to the point of my review and the reason I can only give this TV 2 stars and I feel I'm being generous with the extra star. I don't feel like anyone who would spend this kind of money for a TV would be sitting around listening to the stock speakers

***Caution***

 Compared with the 4K flagship Q90R, its HDR is not as impactful, its local dimming is more prone to artefacts due to significantly lower number of zones, its colour calibration is more time-consuming and it doesn't have the One Connect box. But then again, the 55-inch Q80R is a good £600 cheaper than a Q90R of equivalent size at the time I filmed this video in June 2019. The TV will still deliver some of the best bright room and gaming performance on the market, so I can recommend the Q80R if you can't stretch the budget to the Q90R and don't mind an inaccurate HDR picture and the lack of Dolby Vision support.
