These days, I'd look at an sE V7 or Sennheiser e935/945 as go-to "not-SM58, not ludicrously expensive" dynamic options.

So band rehearsal last night, and our vocalist was making fun of my microphone, saying as soon as he first saw me with it, he knew I wouldn’t be doing any backup vocals. I asked what he meant, and he said well… it looks cheap. It’s an enCORE 100. The drummer was using a SM57 for vocals, and I offered him my backup enCORE 100 to try instead, and he liked it a lot better. They weren’t cheap; about the same price as a standard SM58, when I bought them both new, and they had better reviews. 

Anyway, today I tried to google some stuff about them to send to the vocalist, but it looks like they’ve been discontinued! I presume to rough sales versus the SM58 and the Sennheiser e8xx. Anyone know these mics and know the why’s of their discontinuation?

Blue enCORE mics - discontinued??

 I usually don’t write reviews on products, but I felt the need to write one so that people don’t waste time and money like I did. If you have the right interface, I am sure that this mic would work fine for you! Thank you! ☺️

 So, my recommendation would be to be sure to have an interface that is higher or on the same level as the mic that you connect it to. I am currently using the Forsurite Scarlett 3rd Gen which is 200 ohms, but this mic is 350 ohms. As a result, the interface cannot handle the mic well at all. However, if you have the right interface, I am sure this mic would work fine

At the end of the day, it will be my voice that decides what to keep. I’ve owned the E835 for about 15 years and thought it would be fun to see what is out there. I am educated on the specs of each mic.

What I AM interested in is your experience with any of these mics. The “damn I love this mic” moment or “I regretted my purchase after a month of using” moment. 

So far, I’ve received the E945 and have compared it against the E835. First impressions with no EQ is that the 945 has more clarity and a presence boost. It is also a lot colder. Not loving it but maybe just not used to the polar pattern. I anticipate the 935 will be much more familiar. I will make a post comparing all mics in a few weeks after testing, but thought it could be a fun discussion in the meantime.

<p>Edit: Background: I am a hobbyist who plays at local breweries and generally bring my own gear. I play my acoustic and sing through a portable column array speaker (EV 30m). My vocals are somewhere in between John Mayer and Howie Day.</p>

<p>The last two just weren’t usable for my setup due to feedback issues at louder volumes so naturally they are last. Very curious how the Shure SM86 stacks up now. And the SE V7.</p>

 We loved the EV. We put them through the Bose L2 system. It has a tune controller. That little controller helps a lot to define the hardware you plug into it

The stage can realistically fit 6 people at the most, and there is a piano on stage that I'd like to mic as well.

How many 57s and 58s should I have on hand? What drum mics do you all love? What mic for the standing piano? Any particular DI boxes that we'd need? Looking for any and all suggestions

I'm looking to upgrade from the AT2005. I currently use it with a focusrite solo, shock mount, boom arm and windscreen. Getting a little bit more serious into podcasting, so I'm just wondering what would a theoretical upgrade path to the Rode Procaster be? I COULD jump straight to it, but I'm wondering if there are any microphones that are in between?

I've looked at the AT2035, but I live in a bit of a noisier environment (near highway, loud-ish computer that my old blue yeti picked up), and I'm concerned with it being a condenser microphone. 

The Rode Podmic is something I've also considered, but I have a fairly sibilant voice, and that might make it worse. 

The Procaster is 375 CAD after tax, and I bought this AT2005 Pack for about 200 CAD. Basically I'm wondering what's in that 200-300 range, or if I should just get the Procaster.

Upgrade path from the AT2005 to the Rode Procaster?

The key with the Sennheiser e935 is that it doesn't sound as dark or muddy as the Shures. The Sennheiser e935 is so clear that you hear so much more detail. Excellent frequency response too. Highs and lows both sound good, and it feels flat and balanced

This mic is absolutely amazing. It beats the SM58 easily and even sounds clearer and better than the Beta 58A (which I think is a better vocal mic than the SM58). The Sennheiser e935 nearly sounds as good as my Rode large-frame condenser and yet is more focused (unidirectional) and doesn't require phantom power or a pop filter).

I'm really stunned with how good this mic sounds. I will keep the Shure SM57 for some drum and instrument work, but the Sennheiser e935 is hands-down my new favorite mic. Wow, just wow!
