I owned a Suunto Vyper as my first dive computer and now have a Shearwater Petrel 2 and a Perdix that I use as primary and backup for tech diving. The Shearwater Perdix/Petrel are undoubtedly better for some things depending on your use cases. I upgraded when I was still diving within NDL because most of my diving is in cool, dark water even at rec depths and I just couldn't see the screen of the vyper in the dark without turning on the backlight - and the button for the backlight is small to hit with gloves on. Of course, on top of that the Shearwaters have features for mixed gas diving that the Vyper just doesn't have.

Ditch the Axiom. I would go Shearwater over Garmin unless you REALLY want the smart watch features for something. I would get a Teric with AI and then a cheaper smartwatch, but I never wear a watch so I dive the Perdix 2 and a Teric. I stopped being an Apeks fan over the last couple of years.

I honestly did not know how good it was until I used it. On the dive boat a lot of people had great things to say about shearwater. First dive computer I ever had and based on speaking with others I think will be last computer I ever have unless I get a backup computer. I went with the perdix 2 instead of peregrine because I wanted the AI(Air integration) in the future.

I have a Shearwater Teric that is about 1.5 years old and I recently purchased a new Perdix 2. I recently took them on a dive and they gave me slightly different depths(119.4 ft vs 118.6ft and 108.9 ft vs 108ft) and a corresponding slightly different decompression obligations. The Teric was the computer running a bit shallower and was on Firmware v22 and the Perdix was running a bit deeper and Firmware v91. Teric is in OC Rec mode, perdix was in OC Tec, but it also had a different depth reading when it was in OC Rec on a previous set of dives.
