Ambient mode works independently of ANC mode. The modes can&rsquo;t be combined in any way, but they can both be turned off. The ambient mics do a solid job of picking up surrounding audio and delivering it at a realistic volume, with a focus on clarity&mdash;high-mids and highs get a slight boost, which aids in understanding what people are saying.

The earphones deliver solid noise cancellation for the price, especially when it comes to wiping out deep low frequencies. Like many budget-friendly ANC in-ears, some hiss is added to the signal&mdash;in fact, there&rsquo;s a little more audible hiss here than usual. It&rsquo;s not an unpleasant sound (think tape hiss or white noise), and even at this fairly obvious level, most people would describe it as faint. Regardless, it&rsquo;s a hallmark of budget ANC

Available in black, the Indy ANC earpieces are stems that dock into a rather bulky charging case. The earpieces have a secure fit, thanks largely to the combination of included eartips (there are three pairs in S, M, and L) and sleeves (two pairs are included) that add stability. Internally, each earpiece houses a 12mm driver delivering a frequency range of 20Hz to 20kHz.

The earphones are compatible with Bluetooth 5.0, but support the SBC codec only, not AAC or AptX. They're are also Tile-enabled (you can locate them using the Tile app).

 When you take a reference headphone design out of a factory in China like Skullcandy has done (it happens to be a reference design I like), it needs to perform better than other models that look like it and cost the same or less.  They worked OK indoors in quieter environments but callers sometimes said they had trouble hearing me in noisier environments like the streets of New York. The Anker model isn't really any better at making calls in noisier spots, so if call quality is what you're looking for, you'll have to pay more for AirPods or Jabra's Elite 65t or Elite Active 65t or other pricier models that feature multiple microphones with noise reduction technology.     

 The Indy's charging case is a little larger and the earbuds come with a set of removable "stability gels" that I didn't need but may help some people get a better fit. Unfortunately, if you don't put them on, the earbuds sink a little too far into their slots in their case (they adhere magnetically to their charging points) and become a bit more difficult to get out.

 I wish they’d just included more buttons on the earbuds. Overall, I’m a bit disappointed in these headphones. Although the packaging is nice and the noise cancellation is awesome, the basic functionality is lacking.

If you’re looking for bluetooth headphones to pair with a single device, if noise cancellation is your #1 priority, and if you don’t mind adjusting the volume, pausing the audio, or switching tracks using your phone, then I would recommend these. Otherwise, I would not. THE GOOD: Sound: The sound is WAY better than any other bluetooth earbuds I’ve tried, hands down. The noise cancellation is awesome - I’ve been on the phone with someone while breaking down boxes and (later) starting the washing machine, and they could not tell at all

 I wish they’d included removable ear hooks with these like other (less expensive) models have. THE BAD: Pairing: Initially, pairing worked just as easily as all other bluetooth headphones - I turned the headphones on, found them on my phone, and voila they were connected. But when I tried to connect them to a second device, it didn’t go well - I tried several different ways to get the headphones to re-enter pairing mode but nothing worked. The only thing I have found that works is completely “forgetting” them on the first device before connecting them to the second

Great packaging & noise cancellation; Bad pairing & functionality

Got em delivered last week, those are my first ANC headphones, noise canceling works great, if the music is off u can probably hear like 20% of sound compared to having no headphones. Having music on i cant hear anything. Build quality looks good, id be surprised if they wouldnt last 2 years.

Does anyone have the Sony XH-1000XM4's? Are they worth it and how well is the noise cancelling? Would it be enough for lawn mowing? How's the build quality and would I be able to trust it for 2 years minimum?

 The first time out of the case they automatically paired to my phone. When I tried to also pair them to my watch, following the very complicated pairing sequence of button pushing, I could not get it to pair. I had to completely unpair these from my phone to get them to pair to my watch. Then I could not get the earbuds to pair back to my phone

I am having a love hate relationship w/these ear buds.  What I like about these ear buds was first the price..

 I have not had good luck w/earbuds staying put while running or lifting hard. These do that. I find myself checking them often, out of habit, and they are tightly in place.  Battery Life: I've not had an occasion where the batteries have run dead

 I also get a static sound pretty frequently which requires me to pause and restart playing music.  In the end, I do not think I would buy these again unless they come out w/a better version. If they could make earbuds with this fit and work like some others, they would be perfect. Until then I'll use these until they die and probably not replace them w/more SkullCandy earbuds unless some improvements are made

I'm thinking of picking up a pair and giving my sesh Evos to my mother. On paper they seem really good and they're on sale right now on skullcandy.com for like 80 or 90 CAD(superb deal). Are they any good?

 All this said, there are a few redeeming qualities. First, the sound quality is actually quite impressive. I've thoroughly enjoyed it. Second, the earpiece options are nice
