I should have bought a GSO.

5" a few years back but it is just a bit too small. This 8" should be perfect. I added a plastic knob so that the Az tension can be easily adjusted from above without tools. I also added a small cushion so scope doesn’t hit the mount

Poor base tuning

 Only problem is that I would have had to take it to a UPS store 15 miles away. That was unacceptable, so I called back and talked to another person who suggested that I contact the manufacturer and try to get them to send me a base. Manufacturer said to have Amazon credit me for the missing base and ended up with 150 off. I decided this was an opportunity to add my own flair to my new telescope and design a custom base in the shape of a rocket

Custom base has now been built and tested and the telescope itself is awesome. It just sucks that I had to deal with the inability of Amazon to ship non-conforming packages

 2) the elevation bearings are not teflon so there's lots of stiction. I solved this by buying some teflon and making new bearings. 3) the mount is pretty heavy. I'd recommend making a lighter weight dob mount if this is a problem for you

Overall this excellent scope.  Missing important adjustment screws.

Good choice, some parts needed to have a much better experience.

 The more I use this scope, the more I feel it is money well spent.  July 31, 2018: Well, I finally took a look at Mars tonight. It is as bright as Venus, though only two-thirds as big. I could make out light grey areas in the bright red color

25 super 10mm lens. I can't wait to get my 2" wide angle.  I gave this scope 5 stars because it is so well made. After I actually use it, I will either leave it a 5 stars or downgrade it

The mountains on the moon's rim are impressive against the black background of space, and the bands of Jupiter are fantastic. At 167 million miles away, Mars only looks like a red star. I'll have to wait until July 2018, when Mars is 38 million miles away
