I'd go with Smartwool 250. 100% merino. Don't wash it too much, let it air dry and it'll retain its shape and last for a long time.

Hello all! I’ve been shopping around for base layers, specifically merino and I’m wanting some advice.

I purchased the merino wool 80%, polyester 20% long sleeve extreme merino from Mountain Warehouse and I wore it this past weekend. I loved how warm it kept me and that it didn’t smell but it stretched out so much, like 2 sizes more than when I got it. Also, it started pilling between my thighs after 2 nights. Given that I purchased it for $55 I’m looking to give something else a go. 

I’ve seen that sportchek has helly hansen 100% merino long sleeves for around $60 on sale and I’m debating about purchasing one. 

What I want to know is if merino wool/polyester blends are known to stretch a stupid amount. Also would you recommend the blends or a 100% merino shirt given the details and criteria I have listed below. 
I’ve been checking out used gear sites and thrift stores but nothing is meeting my needs unfortunately. 


Important details: 
- Chest is 38 inches
- Medium in shirt. Want this base layer to fit snug. 
- Budget is $80 for a long sleeve shirt 
- I am a 23 year old female
- Warmth and reducing odours are most important
- Will be used for sleeping in a tent back country in Ontario (mostly around Algonquin from late summer to mid October)

Advice wanted for women’s merino wool base layers!

Not slim fit

Base layer top is heavy, go with merino 250. Ditch the mug. Ditch the cork ball-everyone I know that brought one sent it home. Get a different bidet, backcountry bidet weighs like 1 oz

**Goal Baseweight (BPW):** As low as I can get it.

**Budget:** 200-300 

**Non-negotiable Items:** Tent

**Solo or with another person?:** Solo

**Additional Information:** Since I'm starting early I'm starting with heavier base layers and cold weather gear that I don't carry often and will likely ship them home or to WA after the Sierra's which have been marked by \*. 

This is also my first thru hike and want to make sure I am not carrying anything unnecessary (besides my camera set up)

Best shirt/base layer for home or field!

Smartwool | Men's Merino 250 | Fall/Winter 2018

I just got an REI crew neck mid weight base layer on Friday. It’s been great. Soft layer against my skin and not squeezing me. I did try on a Smartwool 250 at the store which was maybe even better, but not worth the extra $$$ for me

The number of options is pretty overwhelming. My closet is full of t-shirts I don't wear, and I figured I may as well replace them all with 3 base layers for spring/summer and 3 for fall/winter. I'm ideally looking for:

- something I can wear under a flannel at work on Friday and on the trail under a mid-layer/outer layer on Saturday
- something with a fitted-but-not-turtleneck-tight neck; some of the base layers I've seen look like scoop necks, and I can't stand a sweater having a tighter collar than what's under it
- slim but not Under Armour tight
- not too picky about synthetic or merino

I realize that's pretty broad--mostly just hoping to hear what people have had success with. Bonus points if it's sold at REI so I can try it on before I buy. Already made that mistake ordering the REI Sahara Long-Sleeve T in a medium, which I swim in (5'10", 150 lbs).

My current layering setup is a merino 150 shirt under a Patagonia nano air under an arcteryx rush.

This setup has worked great for me for resort skiing in mammoth and Lake Tahoe but i rarely ski it in under
20 degrees Fahrenheit or so.
This year i will be skiing on the east coast in Vermont where temps frequently dip below zero.

I’m worried this setup wont be nearly enough for those long lift rides. 

What can i add to my current setup to make it work for these conditions?
Do i add a down layer such as a cerium lt?
All suggestions are appreciated.
