The Mainline MIPS is a newer model from Smith. This lightweight full-face was designed with input from Smith's professional enduro racers. It's pretty darn light, although a couple of ounces heavier than some of the other enduro-focused models we've tested, but it has a more substantial, confidence-inspiring feel. Smith's use of Koroyd helps maintain a high level of coverage and impact protection while still delivering excellent ventilation. This airflow is critical when smashing on the pedals in the middle of an enduro stage or grinding up that pesky climb in the middle of your shuttle lap. The Mainline carries a DH certification, and it felt more robust than some of the other helmets in the enduro sub-category. Yes, there are lighter options, but we feel the Mainline is an ideal blend of weight, ventilation, comfort, and protection.
While we loved the Mainline for its substantial feel and excellent weight-to-protection ratio, it does have some compromises. There are better options if ventilation is of the utmost importance. Yes, the Mainline has above-average airflow, but some models breathe a little better. We also don't think this is the best option for dedicated bike park riding or downhill racing. While it is DH certified, we'd recommend looking at a heavier-duty DH-specific helmet. The Mainline MIPS is on the pricey side of the spectrum. That said, we feel the asking price is justified for its quality and performance.

The Smith Mainline MIPS is a relatively new lightweight full-face model. This was designed along with Smith's professional enduro racers. For a full-face helmet, it's pretty dang light. It isn't the lightest enduro-focused helmet, but it's close. It also has a more substantial, confidence-inspiring feel than some enduro helmets. While it is downhill certified, we think getting a heavier-duty DH-specific helmet is a better idea for these applications. As you might expect, this option is on the pricey side. But it's a high-quality, lightweight, full-face helmet, so the asking price is reasonable when you consider this.

 While we've been testing the Smith Main line over the past couple weeks, I took it on some longer rides here in the Georgia Heat and we're going to talk about how it did. So let's get started. So before we get into the rides that I did and how it actually performed in an all-day situation, let's get into the specs of the helmet first so we know what we're dealing with. So this helmet is Cpsc, Cen 1078 and Astm F1952 Downhill certified

SMITH MAINLINE REVIEW - All day full face helmet for enduro mountain biking rides?

Under 25mph you should be fine with a downhill rated MTB helmet such as the Smith Mainline; for anything faster I would invest in a full motorcycle helmet and other protection. If you don't plan on going over 15mph you can get away with a simple bicycle helmet, but there is still a bit of a risk you will fall on your face. Ultimately its a personal choice how much protection vs risk you are willing to take when you ride, and its always a balance between comfort and safety.

Thank you to everyone here for sharing the importance of helmets while on your scooters. Just ordered a scooter and was debating if I needed a helmet since I figured going 10mph a few inches off the ground didn't seem super risky, but i'm def going to get one now. Anyone have mens helmet recommendations, so I don't look like a 6 year old riding my bike in the driveway while going to class? Price doesn't matter. Thanks!

Helmet recommendations?

  But I wouldn’t trust it for gravity riding. After trying a few other helmets as well, I went with the POC Coron Air, which is a bit heavier but much more plush, not noise (SPIN instead of MIPS), more robust and more secure than the Mainline.

For reference, I have a 58-58.5 cm head and got the medium. It fit me snugly without being too tight.  I wanted to like this helmet and use it for park days since it’s so breathable and light

 And luckily some of the more unpopular colors it seems you can get for as low as 210 dollars. So if you're not too, uh, keen on certain colors, then you could save some money. But yeah, I'm pretty glad with this purchase. It's my first full face helmet and uh, I don't really see any reason to buy a different one currently, so hopefully you enjoyed watching this video And remember, Stay, adventure my friends

 At first I was kind of annoyed by the d string thing, but now I am pretty used to it and it's supposed to be the safer way to go. so I'm all right with it being on this helmet, you just gotta figure out how to fiddle with it. Um, another reason though, why I don't like to take this helmet on and off very often. Another thing is that the mouth guard is completely empty, which I guess could be bad, but for an enduro style full face, I think that's what you'd like

 so now my visor's just kind of hanging out there. I haven't used it since, so I gotta find a replacement or something. But you do have a bit of an adjustable visor, although I don't really adjust that because unfortunately, even with my Smith Squad goggles that are supposed to go with this helmet, I find that even if the visor is all the way up, it doesn't really provide a great amount of room for the goggles to sit up here. They still kind of like fall down a little bit so it's not a perfect fit

 But the goggles do fit perfectly on the back and of course on the face of the helmet, so I would hope that would be the case. Another thing is that it uses a D-ring strap, some of the other enduro style full face helmets have just a normal buckle or like a magnet strap. What helmet type do you run ?

good looking but not enough protection

 Another downside to this helmet is the fact that these visor bolts will come loose over time. Um, they're plastic. You have to be careful you don't over tighten them because they will crack. It does appear that they put some sort of loctite on the bolts, but they still tend to come loose

 I do have a pock core on air spin which is a little bit thicker. It's a heavier downhill helmet and I didn't wear that helmet once this summer because the main line was on full duty. Um. throughout

 I don't doubt its abilities and if it were to be damaged, I would definitely buy this helmet again. I find the fact that it interfaces well with the Squad Xl goggles super helpful. Field of view is fantastic and I really do love this helmet and I think it's safe. I would buy this helmet again if given the chance

It's a Good Looking Helmet

Its expensive, but check out Smith Mainline MTB full face helmet; has plenty of ventilation and includes MIPS and Koroyd protection.

I’m a Texas rider and I’m about upgrade to my first actually fast scooter (25mph so no need for a motorcycle helmet) so obviously i need to get a dirk bike helmet but I’m worried about how hot it gets here in Texas with most days throughout the year averaging 75°F and the summer months getting up to 100°F on average. So i was wondering if y’all had any recommendations for full face helmets with good ventilation
