If you're coming from a steady 1000nits of an Acer monitor, you were always gonna think an OLED was dim. I keep my CX at 86 OLED brightness and it still blinds me sometimes.

If you care more about sheer brightness over contrast and color accuracy, then just return your C1 and get the Samsung QN90A. It'll satisfy your hunger to be blinded haha.

I own a 65” CX I have it on isf Bright in my living room and it’s PLENTY bright for my daytime viewing. 

Being that the C1 and the CX are basically the same panel, something must be wrong with your unit.

You're looking a gift horse in the mouth. You don't buy an OLED for it's brightness, you buy it for it's perfect blacks.

Admittedly I don't have the LG C1 though. I have the Sony Bravia A80J. It's picture is worlds better than my previous VA panel screen, the TCL 49S405.

The blacks are way better on the OLED. There's no light bleed at the edges. The contrast is better. It's a lot brighter and I mean a lot. It does true HDR. Even the built in speakers of the Sony sound fantastic compared to any other screen I've had.

My desktop monitor is an Alienware DW3418 (120hz, Ultrawide 3440x1440) and my "main" living room TV is a Sony X950G i purchased during the start of the pandemic since my old Vizio shat the bed. The Sony is a great TV and my first foray into HDR. However i never really felt that HDR was something that blew me away. Playing games on the PS5 and Series X on it was awesome for HDR, but if it wasnt on i wouldnt care. And yes i calibrated it. Fast forward to semi-post pandemic and i buy a home and with it a C1 to go in my "man cave" and although the set looks great i dont really see a large difference over a FALD HDR experience outside of nitpicking blooming under certain conditions. 120Hz and low latency are to me, more of a game changer as my Sony X950G wasnt the best with latency and gaming. All this to say, i understand. Maybe im spoiled (i work hard and i play hard...no silver spoon shit) So its hard for me to experience the differences.

I read and feel what your saying. It’s taken me quite a while to adjust to oled c1. Coming from a long line of Samsung’s purchases 1 new one every 2 years. Finally after 3 months and going through a lot of settings/ adjustments, I find the oled c1 more real than my q80 for sure. It’s a huge adjustment. But worth it now. And trust me I’m hard to impress when it comes to tech

<p>I was well aware that OLEDs aren&#39;t as bright as traditional monitors or as bright as my Acer 4K monitor with 1000nits brightness but ISF bright/dark are completely unusable in normal day to day applications e.g web browsing, watching youtube etc where everything is like looking at your phone brightness at 5% battery in power saving mode and the only way to be able to see anything is by turning HDR on in Windows which limits me to the Game optimise setting which isn&#39;t as colour accurate supposedly as the ISF modes. </p>

<p>My GPU is an RTX 3090 using a HDMI 2.1 cable with RGB set to Full and 10bpc in Nvidia control panel settings. </p>

<p>So far so good but overall, I&#39;m not as impressed by the picture quality even compared to my VA panel which had good contrast, deep blacks and brightness. </p>

<p>Perhaps I&#39;m doing something wrong here but I have OLED brightness at 100, contrast at 100 with all energy saving off and Logo luminance at Low with HDMI1 set to PC.</p>

Pretty wide range of prices there.  If you can swing the 83" Sony OLED that's going to be by far the most impressive,

Best option here is the a90j. The Z9J is also a wonderful tv, but I’d prefer the OLED. I may even dare say:

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions!! I ended up going with the 77" LG C1 OLED. Instead of spending 8K on the Sony A90J I invested into a better sound system (Bose Soundbar 900 + Bass module 700) 

So far TV is great and I really appreciate all of your suggestions!! I have a Xbox Series X so the 120hz refresh rate with freesync is definitely a plus as well :)

When the box showed up for my 77, my wife nearly lost it….she still thinks it’s too big, which funnily enough is the same thing I overheard her say to her boyfriend the other day.

I went from a 65inch LG C7 to a 77 inch Sony A80J this year. If you have the budget, then get the 77 inch. At first it looked ridiculous but after a day it looked natural. I can’t imagine going back to a smaller screen now.

We already have a 106” projection setup, but we’re looking for something better for daytime viewing. I purchased a 65” OLED (sitting on the BDI unit) but am considering returning/upgrading to the 77” while within my return window.

Note: the TV will be mounted a bit lower than indicated by the boxes. They were put up for visual size reference.

Go 77" provided it doesn't place you in unwarranted debt. Else, enjoy the TV you have there for a few more months until you can responsibly afford it. Beautiful space you have there!

I'm staring at a Samsung Q70R as I type this.  I bought it because it fit my needs at the time, but there are several shortcomings I wasn't expecting, and one that I was.

1: The one I was braced for was Samsung's [crosshatch dithering](https://www.flatpanelshd.com/pictures/Samsung_Q90R_Sony_AF9_03.jpg), which they implement deliberately as it supposedly improves the viewing angle.  It also sacrifices resolution, killing the whole point behind getting a 4K display.  Fortunately, this dithering gets (mostly) turned off if the TV knows it's in "PC mode".

2: One I wasn't expecting is that in addition to crosshatch dithering, all Samsung TVs also implement a horizontal line dithering, where every other line is bright/dark/bright/dark, but only with specific colors, such as blue or orange.  [The Belle-Nuit test chart makes it easy to see the consequences of this issue.](https://i.imgur.com/pZBqcLW.jpg)  This cannot be disabled, and is even present in "PC mode".

3: A third issue is Samsung's hyper-aggressive global dimming, which is such a catastrophe that even a decent chunk of everyday TV users have complained about it, yet the only way to disable it is by entering the TV's service mode to tweak settings, _and then_ you have to be in "PC mode" on top of that.  What I wasn't expecting is that Samsung TVs don't believe you're in "PC mode" if you use any refresh rate other than: 29.97, 30, 59.94, or 60 Hz.  So let's say you want to watch a movie at its native 24 Hz.  Too bad: Here comes Samsung's global dimming!  It's so bad that some scenes, like [this starfield in _Ad Astra,_](https://youtu.be/F7hRfb5zxl8) get literally [crushed out of existence](https://youtu.be/I9WDnXyIH4k).

4: Last but not least, even though the Q70R supports VRR, it does not support Nvidia's VRR.  Rtings.com misled visitors into believing it did, for close to a year, before eventually—very belatedly—correcting their data.

It is because of that mishap, plus Sony's inexplicable slowness in catching up with the times, that I'm going to be very cautious when it comes to choosing my next display.  I have read that some of Sony's newest TVs "have plans to support VRR in a software update".  I have already seen cases where a planned software update turned out to be impossible, screwing all those involved.  So if anyone has any hard data on this, that's sort of what I'm after.

As for the dithering thing.  I've scrutinized TVs for years.  Sony is in an entire bracket of their very own, in that they're the only HDTV maker who refuses to corrupt their display with dithering shortcuts.  If absolutely nothing else, I am counting on them for this, and it's the reason why I'm probably getting a Sony next.  Plus, NGL, it'll be nice to leave behind Samsung's _ridiculous_ global dimming nonsense.

<p>One last thing: VA panel &quot;immunity&quot; from burn-in is a myth.  I have a subtle bar of discoloration at the bottom of my screen which just happens to be a perfect match for the Windows 10 taskbar.  And this is after only a year of ownership.</p>
