The Sony MDR-7506 are comfortable, closed-back critical listening headphones with a good sound. They're a little cheaply built but they don't leak much, which makes them a good option for recording. However, they're not the most versatile headphones, sot they won't stay on your head if you run with them and poorly isolate you from the ambient noise of your environment.

Get a pair of Sony MDR7506. They’re cheap, they’re as much of a staple as NS10s, an SM57 or a Les Paul through a Marshall - and they make flaws in your midrange *very* obvious as they’re quite pokey in general problem areas. Then with Realphones or Sonarworks correction they’re excellent for the rest also. In my opinion, low end should always be done on monitors in an accurate room though - so don’t worry about not having a tonne of that.

Conclusion Aside from the fact that the MDR-7506 and the MDR-V6 have some drawbacks for mobile use -- namely the long, coiled cord and lack of an integrated microphone for cell-phone calls -- both headphones have aged extremely well and I'm glad Sony has let them be.

I was toying around with using the Sennheiser HD660's, but the low end falls off a cliff so I'm not sure those would be too good due to having to artificially pump up the bass so it sounds normal to me, but horrible for everyone else.
