 Now, this could be all in my head. I readily admit that, but I wouldn't be surprised if Sony changed the voicing just a little bit because you have to bear in mind these speakers are sold in a mass-market retail environment. Here in North America, that means Best Buy and their competitors are Polk Audio and Klipsch and Polk Audio. And Klipsch has a very different sound

 For somebody who's on a budget, yet you still want sound that is way better than any sound bar or bluetooth speaker. You're somebody who is limited on placement options. Maybe you have to put this small speaker next to a wall boundary, which guess what is what most people do with a speaker like this? And maybe you live in a condo in a town home? Or maybe you just have family members you don't want to disturb so you can't always blast your music, but you still want it to sound good, even at low volumes. This speaker checks off all of those boxes, which is why it's so easy to recommend to people

 and then you have Polk with that meaty sounding mid-range strong bass and bright treble. In that environment, Polk Audio Clips tends to sound a lot more impressive. and then when you switch to the Sony's that are sitting next to them the Sony's number one, they don't exactly look all too great to the eyes, I guess looks around the eyes of the beholder. But still

 I've heard a lot of budget speakers in between then and now, so I decided it would be cool to revisit the Sony's and to talk about whether or not I still feel the same way about their value proposition. So let's go ahead and talk about that. [Music] Oh God. I need a haircut

After the Hype! Revisiting the SONY CORE SSCS5 Bookshelf Speakers!

 Turned each speaker horizontally and stacked four high per side, tweeter above tweeter, woofer above woofer in a sort of array, made the connections and switched on the Levinson No. 585 integrated amp - as most who buy these speakers probably own - and have been listening to them for two days now.  I have not listened to a single pair, just this stack of eight speakers. They can't match the single-pair Bryston Mini-T, but at $4k/pair for the Bryston, I'd have been disappointed if they did

 Amazon and Sony made it cheap to play with so I pulled the trigger.  When they arrived, I stacked them atop my dual SVS subwoofers after moving my Bryston speakers to another room for a few days while I play with these Sony speakers.  However, I don't often crank audio at very high levels, and at more moderate volume these Sony sound their best.  I am having fun with the different window they offer for the music. My wife is no audiophile but her comment was, "These don't sound as good as the Mini-T - the don't have any bass!" Well, they don't extend very deep, nor is the upper bass as clean as that to which we are accustomed. Still, four are fairly impressive to those less spoiled by superior speakers

These or the Dayton MK402X are probably the best straight music speakers at this price point. Sub $150 speakers but sometimes sell for sub $100. Sony SSCS5 - List for $150ish, but [often are sold at sub $80](https://camelcamelcamel.com/product/B00O8YLMVA)

 Prior to the purchase, I did a good bit of research looking for good performance at a nice price. I read more than a few reviews both professional and from the customer. Weighting all this information, I decided to go with these Sony speakers. To be sure, I had a few concerns

 These are very well made speakers. If I have any issues it’s with the low end. At times the bass seemed to need more push. This was not often and indeed for the most part went unnoticed

 The mus range was very strong as voices jumped out of these speakers. The low, bass end was very smooth without the often harsh, booming bass that smothers the rest of the music. I went in to play various genre in my vinyl collection: rock, classical, and pop. I played the records at different volumes

 All things considered, I believe these to be an excellent example of very good hifi at a bargain price. They sound so good I often listen to them without any other speakers. They could easily be your main speakers. A great buy

I've had these for about a year now, they're the Sony SS-B1000. I bought them used in november last year along with a Sony STR-DB870. I've only ever used them at my PC and mostly for online classes, I don't often listen to music at my PC.

My main stereo system is made out of a Sony STR-DB870, a pair of KEF Q150 and a KEF Kube 10b(subwoofer).  I almost exclusively stream Spotify.

Today I decided to put the SS-B1000s in the place of my KEFs out of boredom. After I put on the first song I had to check which speakers were playing because they sounded so good. I never thought these less than $100 new speakers could sound so good.

To be fair, even in a smaller room you need a subwoofer with these. They don't do much under 100hz so bass is pretty rolled off.

If I had to, I could easely live with these instead of the KEFs. Yes, the KEFs do sound a bit better to me but they don't sound a lot better, not enough to look at them and say "the KEFs are definitely better".

If anyone has a pair of these, hook them up and give them a listen!

I have these as garage speakers powered with a Lepai LP-2020TI amp. I bought them new for like $50 a few years ago. They are very good for the price, like surprisingly good. I'm curious how they compare to the Sony SSCS5 which people seem to love.

Sony has some crazy sleeper mini speakers. I got ahold of a pair of the ss-cex100 once and decided to hook them up to a decent receiver and have legitimately never heard a better sounding speaker close to the same size. I have since bought like 5 more pairs and gave some away to help friends set up mini stereo systems.

These cannot sound this good, more in the comments

 I found the sound bar offerings to be subpar and their quality and inability to adjust to my preferences unacceptable. This means what I sought the most is better then TV speakers, better than sound bar for movies and games. I also listen to music, but I am not trying to maximize that specific listening experience. For someone like me, this product works well, very well

 It is working. I am happy with the set-up and the size of the subwoofer. This is my second receiver set-up, I currently use Denon and my other set-up uses a Polk PSW10. Aside from one being active and the other passive, I am under the impression the quality between the two are similar and I am similarly content with the results/sound

 I run my bass thru subs but got to say I'm very impressed with these speakers when have real power put to them. I wouldn't recommend to use these speakers with the typical AVR that doesn't push out at least at least hundred to 150 watts minimum unless your running full bandwidth. 8 ohm speakers sounds better unless you can drive these. Thats my opinion
