The best 55 inch OLED TV we've tested for watching movies is the Sony A90J OLED. It's an incredible TV for watching movies, and although it delivers the same near-infinite contrast ratio as the LG C1 OLED, it's better in a few areas for movies. It comes with the Google TV smart platform, which is user-friendly and has a bunch of apps available to download if you want to stream your content. It also removes 24p judder from any source, including native apps, which helps with the appearance of motion.

It gets brighter than most OLEDs because it uses a different panel type that has decent HDR peak brightness. Really small highlights pop and are vivid, but it still has an aggressive Automatic Brightness Limiter, so larger areas of bright colors aren't as bright. The out-of-the-box accuracy is excellent so you likely won't need to get it calibrated, and it displays a wide range of colors in HDR. It has good image processing features like its upscaling and fantastic gradient handling, and it also has a motion interpolation feature to smooth out motion in low-frame-rate movies.

Sadly, it's not ideal for gaming because it has higher input lag than the LG C1 OLED, and it doesn't have FreeSync support, so get this if your main priority is only watching movies or streaming shows. Also, while it gets bright in HDR, its SDR peak brightness still isn't anything special. Regardless, it's the best 55 inch OLED for watching movies that we've tested.

If you're looking for the best TV for a home theater setup and care more about image quality than size, check out the Sony XR-55A90J. It delivers a similar overall picture quality compared to the Samsung S95B OLED, with incredibly deep blacks, perfect black uniformity, and an incredibly wide color gamut. However, it has a slight advantage over the Samsung TV since it supports Dolby Vision HDR, which is more widely supported than the HDR10+ format supported by the Sony TV. This feature helps it to deliver the best movie-watching experience possible. It also has wider support for advanced audio formats like DTS:X, which is great if you're planning on pairing your new TV with a high-end soundbar or audio receiver.

Unfortunately, because it's a more premium TV, you can only get the 55-inch model for under $2,000. It also isn't quite as versatile for gaming, as it only supports HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on two of its HDMI ports, while the Samsung TV supports HDMI 2.1 on all four ports. It doesn't matter for most people, but if you have both a PS5 and an Xbox Series X, you can't take full advantage of both of them and use the eARC feature to connect your audio system, as the eARC port is also one of the HDMI 2.1 bandwidth ports.

 Tv led, rather than player-led dolby vision, even better upscaling, more granular, film mode or cinemotion control for film mode, interlacing and, of course, hdmi 2.1 support, even by my standards of having reviewed most of the flagship tvs from various manufacturers over the past 14 years, the bravia Xr processor, on the sony a90j is a bit special, delivering the most advanced upscaling and the most impactful hdr i've seen from a consumer oled tv. So far. I hope some of these goodness will trickle down to the less expensive sony atj without aluminium heatsink, which is of course available in 77 inch screen size with multiple upgrades in place

 If you are sensitive to the inherent 24p stutter, that's more obvious on oleds, due to their near instantaneous pixel response time, you can bump smoothness up to 1, which will use motion, compensated frame, interpolation or mcfi to smooth out the stutter, but doesn't introduce as much so Oprah effect and interpolation artifacts, as rival mcfi implementations from other tv manufacturers, similar to how it was on some older sony tvs if you select motionflow custom with both smoothness and clearness left at minimum and then set fill mode to high. This will also apply a small dose of frame interpolation, mainly to improve the clarity of 24p films. Furthermore, because the internal tv apps operate at 60hz natively, it is imperative to set film mode to high to extract 24p frames and eradicate telescenic judder, for example, in this slow panning shot from the queen's gambit on netflix, with motion flow disabled on this 60 fps test Pattern motion resolution came in at the sample and hole baseline of 300 lines. Engaging motion flow could increase motion resolution to 650 lines, which could be improved even further to 1080 lines or even higher by activating clearness variable intensity, black frame insertion or bfi under the motion flow custom sub-menu

 Although you can switch the feet for higher clearance to accommodate a soundbar. We found the onboard acoustic surface audio plus speakers decent enough to dispense with a mid-range soundbar, especially after you run the acoustic auto calibration, using the microphone on the remote control to optimize the sound profile for your room. Furthermore, you can even use the television speakers as a center channel in your surround sound setup, although matching the timber and tone to your other speakers may be tricky if you are an audiophile, the bundle remote control has a premium feel to it featuring a brushed metallic Front fascia dedicated hotkeys to youtube netflix, disney plus and amazon prime video, not to mention a cool backlit function, that's governed by both motion and light sensors, so the remote will only light up when you move the remote in the dark. Four hdmi connections are supplied at the back of the a90j, of which hdmi, 3 and hdmi 4 are hdmi 2

 With the same mediatek mt5895 soc, we switched to uhd 120p resolution on our nvidia rtx 3090 graphics card and put up this mixed resolution test pattern from ryan mazuola. Initially, we were delighted to see the sony a90j resolve single pixel horizontal lines in sdr, which last year's xh90 wasn't able to do. Our joy was short-lived, though, because once we switched to hdr, we started seeing random interference indicating insufficient bandwidth, in spite of sony's additional companion chip, which constitutes bravia xr, together with the mediatek mt-5895-soc. Our suspicion was further supported by this quantization test pattern from the display hdr app, revealing obvious posterization at 4k, 120p, even at the 10 bit level, which went away once we dropped the resolution back down to 4k 60p outside of test patterns, the posterization at 4k 120p In hdr could also be seen on the windows wallpaper not to mention on the skies in dirt 5, with resolution set to high frame rate mode setting smooth gradation

The Master Series A90J is Sony's latest flagship OLED model, as well as its best TV to date. It&rsquo;s one of the brightest OLED panels we&rsquo;ve had in the lab, with one of the widest color gamuts. Speakers are usually a perfunctory aspect of a TV, typcially a set of downward-firing drivers a handful of watts each to provide enough sound to easily hear what you&rsquo;re watching. Sony put more thought than this into the A90J&rsquo;s XR Sound system, combining conventional drivers with actuators mounted behind the screen. The TV features a pair of 10-watt actuators for higher frequencies and a pair of 20-watt drivers for lower frequencies, for more audio power than typical TVs.&nbsp;

Sony Master Series XR-55A90J Review

 Let's go through the key features of this TV set and see if this Sony is worth the price. First of all, the TV comes in this huge box. Despite the size of the box, you can easily unbox it yourself by simply lifting up the lid. The TV is well-packed, meaning that you can easily transport it yourself

 You get all of the apps and streaming services like YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video and so on. You can easily access them using preprogrammed buttons on this very premium remote control that has aluminum finish, nice backlight that turns on automatically and it is based on Bluetooth meaning that you don't need to point it at the TV to make it work. You can also control the TV by voice using Google Assistant which I found to be really useful. You can also use your voice to control smart home devices throughout your home

 Inside the box, you can find everything you need to get started including the legs, cables, ports covers, instruction manuals, the remote control and so on. A fun fact, the remote control comes with batteries that are made by Panasonic. Seriously, Sony, couldn't you include your own batteries? Before you start using the device, you need to run through a quick setup process. Since A90J is based on Google TV, you need to enter your Google account and if you have the phone next to you, the setup process is pretty much seamless

2 dolby atmos sound by sending sound out from the screen. In all directions and really immerse you in fantastic movie experience and, as i said before, that works on the stand or wall mounted. So yes, this tv is a home theater all by itself and just to further the point. There is nothing i like more than to pop on a movie in dolby vision, where i can use dolby vision, bright mode and really take advantage of all the positives of the a90j

 If you can control the light to some degree, whether it be shades or blackout curtains or if you just watch tv at night, oleds have a huge advantage, and if you game then many would say, lg oleds have even more of an advantage. So that might be another fork in your decision making road the fact that the lg c1 and g1 both have working vrr, g-sync and free sync, as well as connectivity, where lg has traditionally shined it's not hard to recommend either the lg g1 for 77 inch. If you want the brightest gaming oled or the always popular lg c series, including the new 83 inch lg c1, where you may lose a little on brightness and processing but get all the gaming features and it's a fraction of the price and when comparing the two 83-Inch tvs, there are some differences between the a90j and the lg c, one which is two thousand dollars less like the a90j heatsink that the c1 doesn't have and the audio where the lg c1 sounds pretty good on the stand, but not as good when wall mounted With their downward firing speakers and then of course, you're talking about the top master series calibrated oled from sony versus the more mainstream lg c1. So do those features on the sony justify an additional two thousand dollars, i'm pretty sure the 83 inch lg c1 would be a great choice for many gamers and many would be excited to save two thousand dollars while getting a better gaming tv from a technical standpoint

The 83-inch sony a90j is huge and amazing, but can i legitimately recommend it for most people, let's find out? What'S up this, be the installer and it's been a minute since i've sat down and reviewed the tv. So now i have the 83 and 65 inch sony. A90J - and i wanted to review the a90j with the larger size in mind, what are the differences it has from the smaller versions? Sony A90J - Should You Buy it? - XR83A90J

 Needless to say the TV is kick-ass & would get 5 stars had it arrived undamaged. But my experience & opinion of amazon is they are a more expensive EBAY, & are screwing over their marketplace vendors!  As for the TV setup itself. The most difficult thing about the TV is Getting the remote to work with the soundbar, & Comcast box, & Tv isn't easy, & if you have Comcast you lose the page feature when you bring up the guide using TV remote. And must go channel by channel unless you use your comcast remote

 Gaming is nice at 16ms of input lag, but not as good as the cx with 14ms and vrr available immediately! Sony says its vrr will come winter 2021! So you've been lied too about it having vrr! Disappointing for gamers! There also is no XR logo on the back! They lied about that too! Sony is getting too cocky. This product shows what happens when companies stop caring about quality experiences, and favor profits more. Its a nice tv, but not worth 3 grand! See pics. I'd wait for a sale or buy a cx

 The remote has a motion activated backlight. Very ritzy. HDR and SDR are impressive too. The new imax enhanced preset brings out the most in all content

 60p and higher is smooth, but it should be since it has significantly more frames. Sound is nice with deep bass. You basically have a mini soundbar built in. Very nice
