 It'S a very compelling piece, especially if you're after what it's after I mean. If you need something like this, if you need something, that's big, that's still slice II, that's absolutely unique and and just brings a lot of the table in a relatively compact package. I think the amalgam is going to be a really nice choice, it's not for everybody, but I think this um. It might just be an amalgamation of their many hopes and desires for a big ol knife, so anyways there

 I mean it's, it's not gigantic, but it's a date. So I like that very much I mean it makes this guy, like I said, a little bit of a joy in the pocket and finally, on the on the good side. I, like the price on this guy, a lot um. This comes in at 175 bucks

 Oh that's annoying. The thing is the second day I developed the technique for it, it was just like all you need to do is as you're closing this guy and I tend to like a kind of toss. It shut effect, but as you close in this guy, all you got to do is kind of move your finger off the compression, lock tab, and then you do it and case closed problem solved. It has these slight annoyance that the blade has a tendency to bounce back out of there and we'll talk about why in a second here, but honestly after that first day it just didn't, bother me anymore

People may argue with me, but the Spyderco Knives are the bombest knifes you can buy on that scale! I know there are custom nights out there that you can have made, but for a production run knife, Spyderco has to feel and the quality as far as I'm concerned, and are the best at that price point!  You come down right on this area here of the compression lock, the knife still locks up just fine, very solid, lock up with this compression lock, but it just doesn't feel good. It really doesn't feel good. It'S a horrible place for your finger to land um, so you just don't want to do that, but if you light switch it and when i mean light switch, i mean: don't pull your finger down along it just light switch it away, it works really good um! That'S not even, and i'm surprised it worked that well because that's not exactly a powerful flip, but it just it really kicks the blade out and the blade it operates very smoothly very smoothly. It'S kind of a tough knife to review, because there's a lot of things about this knife that i really do like um, but this jumbled up mess up here with the flipper tab and the compression lock area

 You cannot push button it because this right here, because this whole mashed up area with the compression lock and just if you go to push button it. It works just fine, but that doesn't feel good. You come down right on this area here of the compression lock, the knife still locks up just fine, very solid, lock up with this compression lock, but it just doesn't feel good.  You just kind of feel the stock come down and touch your finger as you close the knife, this one, you have to completely move your finger. Take it off the compression lock to close the blade. Some people like a challenge. Some people would think this would be fun to get it down and be real good with it um it's kind of impressive

 Here we have the pm2 and there's that that's a little closer, the pm2 and the amalgam are actually pretty similar in size, uh man, i'm still a little shocked myself. This is the first time i actually put it right next to the shaman and and just such a huge difference um. But i will say the nice thing about the amalgam is you have you know? A lot of spydercos have big handles pm2 prime example, but what you have with the amalgam that you don't quite have? Well, you do really, but you do have a little more cutting edge with the amalgam just a little, not as much as you would think. Looking at them um, but you do have just a little more a bit of sharpness to play with on that amalgam blade

Spyderco Amalgam, the one I got was pretty awful. Poor ergonomics due to the wide but thin handle, gritty bearings, worst of all was the weak detent.

I definitely do.  It was a ton of money and many of my 100 to 200 dollar knives are as good if not better then it.  So I'm curious if anyone else has had a similar experience.  I wanna hear some unpopular opinions about knives that are highly touted!

Quality made knife but lacking somewhat in design

Only Spyderco I've seen with robust tip on blade. Flipper tab + compression lock? Bad idea! Would have been 100% better with liner lock.

The flipper is a nice feature, and with a little practice, can be opened or closed very quickly and neatly. The lock construction and placement took a little getting used to after years of working with Spyderco back locks, but the aforementioned practice makes short work of getting the hang of it. The quality of materials is top notch, and the overall design is very pleasing to the eye - uncluttered and clean. The carbon fiber/G10 scales are grippy and positive as well as aesthetically pleasing

One of the best features for my purposes is the extremely light weight of this very workmanlike and capable blade, along with the threaded inserts for positioning the pocket clip to the most favorable location on the scales. All in all, I would say that if you're looking for a knife that can do it all with style, the Amalgam is the one.

 The quality of materials is top notch, and the overall design is very pleasing to the eye - uncluttered and clean. The carbon fiber/G10 scales are grippy and positive as well as aesthetically pleasing.

My New Favorite Spyderco!

Maybe the first few times you shut it, but it becomes second nature to move your finger as the blade falls shut. Practice for 2 minutes and you'll never have this issue.

Picked this over a couple much more expensive options. Glad I did.
