I really leave a good blade on my knife, but this being said, I much more love a comfortable handle with little to no hotspots on it. The more it fills my hand, the better.  I don't really use gloves, so this is an important aspect for me.

My top comfortable to use knives are:

Spyderco Shaman  
Benchmade Freek and the Mini Freek  
Benchmade Boost and the Mini Boost  
Ontario Rat2 D2  
When I do have to use gloves, the griptilian is also great.

 Next, the spydie hole is sharp. A little machining would have been nice especially for the price. Companies like Kizer and civivi are arguably offering higher quality better machine products for less. Last has to do with the design of the knife

When closed the tang of the blade nets out of the lock area of the knife. It’s not a huge deal but if you close the knife by pinching the lock and flicking the blade down the tang will hit your finger and the knife won’t close

One of favorite carry knives

I suggest going with a Spyderco Shaman, especially if you can find a good spring run on r/knife_swap. It's sort of a hybrid between a Native 5 and a PM2 and I think it should be the successor to the PM2 because it's an improvement in virtually every way (ergonomics, blade shape, looks, ergonomics). Did I mention ergonomics?.

I am a long time knife carrier that never leaves home without one. Coming from the military, I have had an assisted opening Benchmade but after years of hard use, lost it. Since I primarily carried CRKT's believing them to be God's gift to pocket blades. Reddit educated me to the difference a while back. It is time to make a leap to a quality blade. I understand the high following the the PM2/Benchmade crowd has. However, with a budget of $275 is it worth stretching to a Chris Reeves or should I put my money into decking out a cheaper knife? I am not against buying used either. What are your thoughts?

Help me spend my money before my wife does!! EDC knife under $275

 i haven't used this in any kind of moisture, but even dry, it's slick. i've never been concerned that a knife handle would break, but have been concerned that somehow my hand could slip from the handle without adequate textured grip. this would be close to a perfect knife for me if this ridiculously overdone handle had some degree rough texture to the handle. this is a very nice piece, but in this one area, that is important to me, it is a big let down

 i find a serrated blade to be far superior for cutting anything i want to cut over a straight edged blade and the cold steel triad lock is the strongest for a folder that i know. spyderco has continued to make nice serrated blades but generally makes thin blades with back locks that i don't entirely trust. this knife met all my requirements in a knife - solid feeling/hefty, smooth operation, reasonable liner lock, thick blade, excellent serrated edge. the only issue i have with it is this poorly adapted handle

 this would be close to a perfect knife for me if this ridiculously overdone handle had some degree rough texture to the handle. this is a very nice piece, but in this one area, that is important to me, it is a big let down. my rating is a 3.5

This is a heavy duty blade! That's the first thing you'll notice when you heft the Spyderco Shaman. It feels like a Cold Steel or Zero Tolerance. The blade is a stonewashed, high-saber grind design, both are unique among the vast majority of Spydies. The blade sports a forward finger choil and good topside jimping

 The pocket clip has been stonewashed to match the blade. Overall, this blade feels a lot sturdier than a Delica, Endura, or Manix and you pay for that in the weight department. I'm not sure how the compression lock compares in strength to the Cold Steel Tri-Ad mechanism, but my sample exhibits solid lockup with no movement whatsoever. Blade centering is slightly off from perfect, but not in any way that would alter performance

 The handle scales are on the smoother side, much smoother than say, the G-10 on a Cold Steel Recon1. The scales sport recessed steel liners that appear to be milled out in some spots to reduce weight. The pocket clip has been stonewashed to match the blade. Overall, this blade feels a lot sturdier than a Delica, Endura, or Manix and you pay for that in the weight department
