And so that's really what bothers me about the Tenacious at this point. And I just don't see Spyderco, I see them resting on their laurels, I don't like to see companies resting on their laurels with designs like this. Push the boundaries

 The Para 3 you're getting over $100 at that point, but frankly, if all you can afford is the 50 bucks, I would say go with one of these knives, don't go with a Spyderco, save your money and get a Spyderco that is a really good Spyderco that you're going to be really happy with. If you save up for that Para 3, you're going to be really happy with the Para 3. So that's sort of my rant for today and is this a bad knife? No, it's not a bad knife, but it doesn't stand up to where it is in the market and it's not even close. That's really my issue with it

 I hate to rag on it so much, but especially because it is an iconic knife, and yes it is an iconic knife, I recognize that. And honestly this was at one point a really, really good deal, but it's not anymore, especially over the last two, three years. The market's really changed. I mean, 20 bucks more and you can get 20 CV in some models from Kershaw, or you can get S35VN from Civivi

Why does everyone carry a multitool and a knife?

  The Spyderco "bug" and company name seems to be etched into the blade. This is a nice touch, many of Spyderco's competitors appear to use an ink or dye for blade logos. With that said, quality control was asleep at the wheel with my knife because the etching on my knife is offset when compared to others.  Recently, my knife was put to the test when we had to cut the rear window out of a truck(I know,use the proper tool, and no,I did not lock my keys in the truck)

  Don't forget about the price. No,you can't forget the money. SPYDERCO KNIVES COST MEGABUCKS! I was never crazy about the idea of a $150 dollar knife disappearing on a medical run.  Well,now I own a plain edge Tenacious and I can now tell my friend without any question that Benchmade,SOG,and CRKT are all,dollar for dollar,still better knives than any Spyderco

 The flat ground leaf blade has an even brushed finish with two bronze washers to help smooth blade movement. Finish on the liners match the blade perfectly and the black G10 grips are top notch. The 4-way pocket clip has a high polish finish and carries Spyderco's well known"bug". The handle has a metal reenforced hole for a lanyard and the knife is finished out with stainless hex screws showing off it's screw together construction

 But it's pretty good. And although this blade, this knife is made in China, I don't think that that should keep you from buying this knife for fear of quality. I've been handling a lot of the knives made by Spyderco that come from China lately. And they're surprisingly good knives

 Now this knife is, I don't know, I guess you'd call it a mid-size pocket knife. It's, let's see, measurements-wise, it is around, it's a little bit, a hair over four inches closed and open. It is maybe seven and a half inches, seven, between seven and seven and a half inches. It's a decent-sized knife and, well, ruler, knife, you can see

Had to see what the hype was about

  Pro:  - Cheap, cheap, cheap! ~$30 is the kind of knife you will actually use and not worry about beating up. Doesn't really matter if you lose/break it, sure it will stink, but for $30 you won't lose much sleep over it.  - Great lockup. Out of the box the Tenacious had ZERO blade play in either direction, and even after flipping it open with great authority all day long (and I really mean whipping it open hard) it still locks up TIGHT! The liner lock is also rock solid, and I can't imagine it failing under normal (or even beyond normal) usage of the knife

  First off, WOW! I am blown away at the amazing knife I got for only $32. I did a lot of looking around, reading reviews, checking out hundreds of youtube vids (big thanks to nutnfancy and cutlerylover for the wonderful knife reviews and insight!) and I figured I should give the Tenacious a try due to all the rave it gets around the net. I will say this, those rave reviews are not inaccurate! This thing is simply a LOT of knife with top notch quality for a unbelievable price. There is a few downsides though, one in particular with has soured the excellent experience I have had thus far, but overall the tenacious is worth well over the ~$30 it sells for

 In fact this knife could easily sell at two or three times its cost and still be worth it (would need better steel at a higher price point though).  But anyway, here is the pro/con breakdown.  Pro:  - Cheap, cheap, cheap! ~$30 is the kind of knife you will actually use and not worry about beating up. Doesn't really matter if you lose/break it, sure it will stink, but for $30 you won't lose much sleep over it

 The jimping on this blade is perfect, your thumb sits perfectly in the ramp and it holds your finger in place! The liner jimping is Ok, nothing special but it gets the job done when combined with the top blade jimping.  - Feels great in hand. I love how this knife feels in my hand, not as good as the Aegis, but for what the Tenacious has it does very well. It may not have the looks, but it has the quality (although I actually love the way it looks, just not as fancy as the Aegis)

Amazing knife, but has a downside.

 The honest truth is I've been completely cheating on my Emerson Kershaw's for the past week and I've been solely EDCing Spyderco Tenacious. And yeah, the quick answer is I actually think it's a really, really amazing knife for the price. So let's get into the details you all probably know really quick, knock out the boring stuff, and then we'll get to the cool stuff. Oh, and as reference, I'll be using my Emerson Kershaw CQC6 as a kind of like a control or just a competitor

 I'm literally just going to go with what I have here. So scale, working. The weight of my knife is exactly four ounces. That is miraculous

 I think I will go ahead and give this bad boy away. So this is an Emerson Kershaws CQC 9K. It's been my, or one of my main EDCs for the past, I don't know, year, maybe a year and a half. I love this knife to death

 Put you right here. It holds up, it's in the same ballpark size wise. I mean, obviously the CQC9K is beefier, but it's a decent size blade. Let's go on to the blade

Spyderco Tenacious Review 2020 | 5 cool ways to open!

I present you the Mule, 4yrs of daily fights and still a decent cutter (nearly daily sharpening)

 I have opened and closed this knife probably a thousand times now. It started off stiff like I mentioned above, but is finally a well-tuned action. The lockup is solid, the blade flips open easily, and has just a trivial amount of play in it now. This was my biggest concern and it has finally settled in

 I will be adding a bevel with my dremel to soften that edge. The result will be less than pretty, but more functional than the current whole.  2. Blade play: When the knife came out of the box, the action was very loose with lots of side-to-side play, but no up and down play

  - I have re-profiled the edge to a clean and polished 40 degrees. It has held its edge well and the blade is performing the way it should now. It is razor sharp after going through its regular tasks of opening boxes, mail, some minor food prep, etc.  - The action has finally been broken in to become a smooth and solid system

  2. Blade play: When the knife came out of the box, the action was very loose with lots of side-to-side play, but no up and down play. It needed to be tightened by about a 1/4 turn of the pivot screw to remove the play. Once the play was removed, the pivot became much too stiff, so it had to be backed off a little

Disappointed

 It's held an edge very well. I've put it through a fair bit of cardboard and stuff. I haven't had any chipping, rolling, no dull spots. Nothing weird is happening here

 It's just, to me, it's not the most bang for your buck. And I think you can get more for less at this point from China specifically, but that'll be that. Thanks again, River's Edge Cutlery. I appreciate it, guys

 Is it a steel you can sharpen and harden? Yeah, but is it the bottom of the barrel of steels that you can sharpen and harden in today's day and age? Yes, in 2020, this is an absolute budget, low-end steel and this is the only knife currently in my possession that's not sitting in a junk drawer that's an 8CR13MOV. That said, they treated it well. It's held an edge very well. I've put it through a fair bit of cardboard and stuff
