Squier Classic Vibe Bass VI Demo and Review

First off, I've got a Fender reissue Bass VI that I got in the mid 90s, MIJ (Japan). The Squier is a decent instrument but in nowhere near the same league as my MIJ Bass VI. Why did I buy it then? I use these in church mostly, and occasionally in different bands usually with a reverb/tremolo pedal into a clean bass amp.  Gets that early/mid 60s baritone sound but it's not really a baritone

 It's a bass but tuned one octave down instead of 2. I can play guitar lines, and the strangle switch works great into like a Fender Princeton Reverb where you don't want to harm the 10" speaker.  This is my second Squier from Amazon, the first one was delivered in an open box and NOT in mint/new shape. It had some problems from most likely bouncing around opened for a couple of days

This isn't a bass, nor a guitar, but it fills a need.

 So that one gives you that pickup This is going into a guitar not a bass amp And you've got this strangle switch it's kind of like a a low roll-off like a high-pass filter So you put that on and it's quite good because it stops the bass interfering with the bass guitar on a track if you've got it in a track so So you put that on and it's quite good because it stops the bass interfering with the bass guitar on a track if you've got it in a track so Strangle switch they call it. There we go. But it's great. There's some really good things you can do with it, um, you know playing chords Strangle switch they call it

Oh That's quite cool And also because Ellie is learning the guitar and with the group that she was in there were no bass players This is a short-scale base that plays a bit like a guitar

 So here we go Squire by thing. I've never owned a squire before. Wow Oh, that's very good. They're very well-made I forgot it's got a tremolo on quite while you were a tremolo on the base Take that here we go

Bass VI Review, Demo and Unboxing - Squier by Fender Classic Vibe Bass VI

Hi so im a beginner if you couldn't tell and I want to find a good, relatively cheap (under $2000) bass. I found a Höfner violin for around $780 and I got really excited cause I'd love to play some Beatles songs. However, I looked into it and saw that it's not as good/versatile a bass as I thought. I also want to play some Japanese jazz fusion type music so I don't think the Höfner would be able to produce jazz-fusion type music? Please let me know if the bass does affect what genres you can play and if so what bass is versatile enough to play Beatlesque and fusion music. ty &lt;3

Does the bass affect genre?

Guitar plays great, set up pretty well out of the box and accepted a light top/heavy bottom custom Stringjoy set to comfortably play in EAEADF#.  Guitar seemed to have suffered some cosmetic and structural abuse, with all of the protective plastic removed from key pieces. Pictured, one can see the pickguard as well-worn immediately after unboxing, as well as the low E (prior to stringjoy set) bent and unwinding towards the higher end of frets.  Overall happy with the guitar in terms of playing, cosmetically it simply needed a new pickguard and strings immediately out of the box due to rough transit and having already been opened, played and protective film peeled

I want to build a guitar that I can use to play both a baseline and alto line at the same time.  To do this, I want to drop the E string from E2 to E1.  Is this possible without modifying the neck of the guitar?  If so, what kind of string would I need to buy?

[Question] Is it possible to drop the E string by an octave? What would I need to buy to do it?

I Thought I needed it

 Quite often I will have the strangle switch engaged because particularly if I have distortion on it just clears things up a little bit. Obviously with the heavier strings distortion can start sounding a bit messy so the strangle switch is just like an awesome feature. So yeah, let's hear it. Let's hear it

 I'm going to see what happens when I change things over. There's different strings and stuff but it's pretty much in tune. And that actually onto the strings these ship with strings that really are too small for the guitar. So what I mean by that is the low E I believe the gauge is like 84 or 80 something

 Just tell them how shit everything is. Anyway, it hasn't been that long. Last week I received this Bass 6 as a gift from my lovely, jubbly wife. Anyway, I'm going to tell you about what I think about this guitar straight out of the box and whether you should buy one is up to you really

What, in your opinion, are the hidden gems of the bass world? The unsung heroes that overdeliver on tone, panache, and playability?

I should clarify that I’m not necessarily talking budget basses, or it’s-good-for-the-price basses. If you’re familiar with guitars, I’m looking at a rough analogue to the latest Yamaha Revstar line - reasonably priced, plays like a dream, and can stand toe-to-toe with an even higher priced instrument. I’m thinking something that could be comfortably played by a gigging musician, without them looking or sounding subpar, though not so boutique that it’s irreplaceable. Bonus points if it looks cool :) 


I’m partly asking this as a conversation starter, and partly as someone will soon be in the market for a bass that isn’t a basic starter instrument. For all the trusty secondhand EB-0 was a good entry point, it has its limits as an instrument!
