 So for instance if you get down to like 40 RPM it will reduce the amount of required wattage to keep the thing going so you can get back on top of your cadence and keep the workout going instead of having to just come to a standstill and wait for the game to effectively reboot your mode. So it's a small detail but one that I certainly appreciate and if you've used smart trainers and you've felt that dreaded lock you can appreciate that too. One last user friendly piece is the cockpit configuration. You've got a spot to put your smartphone then you've got a tablet holder and then underneath you've got two USB ports so you can charge said phone and said tablet and since the front end is pretty stable you can really wrench on the bike without worrying about your tablet or phone going flying

As far as downsides my primary beef right now is the interaction between the bike and Zwift with some of the small details. For instance Zwift right now won't tell you what gear you're in which in some ways is no big deal you can just find it by feel but if you're accustomed to riding outside and either looking down at your gears or looking at your computer for a gear indicator it's just one frame of reference that you don't have here

That is absolutely huge and plus and Bluetooth connectivity So it's compatible with all your training platforms plus or minus one point five power accuracy claimed We'll put that to the test later on and it has sprint shifters installed by default Onto my experience with that hardware. The saddle first of all has been fantastic It's almost identical to a specialized power saddle, which I use out on one of my road bikes It's the only smart bike that I have not changed the saddle on After unboxing and riding it for a few hours

 It was a good experience. I'd love to see some di2 style shifter options for this day that changes on the outside That's just much more natural for me than changing with my thumb I'd also love to see a lot more integration with the software training platforms that we use Having to load the stages link app for gearing configuration for that gear change sound and everything else. It's a bit cumbersome It's okay, but ideally I'd love to say that in the software that we're using so gear information user profile setups all within Zwift or the other software. Maybe one day soon we'll see some integration there I'd also love to see the power metering or measurement done from the flywheel itself like other trainers rather than from two external cranks Yes, we will lose true left-right balance with that

 I found the saddle and road bar to be comfortable, but you can swap them out to your preferred equipment. The cranks are drilled for 4 effective crank lengths, giving you ultimate adjustability. It’s $600 cheaper than a KICKR Bike, and to me that feels roughly about right in terms of trade-offs. I’d absolutely love to see Stages come out with a different/optional handlebar setup that feels like shifting a real bike from a levers standpoint. But, I’ve said that about all the smart bikes too

Ultimately, price is probably the largest factor for most when choosing a smart bike. One can’t pretend to operate in a vacuum when writing a review on that factor. But I think Stages gets pretty close to finding the right balance here for price versus competitive functionality. It’s $600 cheaper than a KICKR Bike, and to me that feels roughly about right in terms of trade-offs
