You can use your big beefy home stereo with a big speakers and you can plug this into the auxilary input or you can use your amplifier or your home entertainment system that you may have underneath your television. Pretty decent product and price as it is doing what it I am looking for it to do which is allow me to connect my ipod to my 5 year old home theatre receiver. Connection to bluetooth for me was pretty quick and easy..

Decent.... Depending On What You Expect For Quality Sound

 I am using it with a small JBL speaker which has remarkably good sound quality for a portable device. Thus even when transmitting to this receiver in aptx from my macbook pro there is a significant loss of audio quality. When using an iPhone 6 (no aptx), the sound becomes very flat. My conclusion is that the usefulness of this receiver depends a lot more on the quality of your speaker than I had envisioned (meaning I wont use this)

I use this to connect Alexa via Bluetooth to my older stereo system, via component cables, although this supports optical also. My only complaint is that after leaving the connection Bluetooth linked to Alexa for a few hours, the music will interrupt for a split second every 10 seconds or so. Turning the Bluetooth off then on again via Alexa fixes the problem. Odd

Doesn't have a very far range on the Bluetooth, my house is small and if I stream from my phone and take my phone to the bathroom the music will drop out of signal. Not too cool.

 I only had the analog-out hooked up briefly to test, but that sounds excellent as well.  However, the Startech's Bluetooth receiving range is worse than the Belkin it replaced, probably due to the use of a tiny "chip" antenna (squeezed onto a tiny daughtercard with the shielded Bluetooth receiver module) rather than a resonant PCB trace, which would have been more effective. I'll include a photo of the board, with its antenna circled in yellow.  Also, the orientation of this already-weak antenna on the board is such that its weakest reception will be from the front (and rear), which is where many people would naturally have their source device positioned

As another reviewer mentioned, propping up or hanging the receiver vertically, with its cables coming out either the top or bottom should help improve the range.  (If anyone feels like modifying their unit, and obviously voiding the warranty, replacing that chip antenna with a stiff wire of the appropriate length, soldered to its non-grounded terminal should make for a big improvement
