 I just returned that one too, a little bit disappointed to be honest since I was looking forward to the silent red switches but the keys made a noise against the backplate that was the opposite of a quiet keyboard. For my next keyboard some advantages would be a minimalistic design, RGB and perhaps some programmable keys.

I returned the Apex 3 cause I knew that the Cherry MX Silent switches would be even more quite after having tried a tester button. However the Silent red switches on the K70 weren't quite and the keyboard gave of a metal springy noise with each key press. I just returned that one too, a little bit disappointed to be honest since I was looking forward to the silent red switches but the keys made a noise against the backplate that was the opposite of a quiet keyboard. For my next keyboard some advantages would be a minimalistic design, RGB and perhaps some programmable keys

-the keycaps: The keycaps feel really really cheap. Even after only 3 weeks of use, I feel the surface of the keys that I use feel washed out and a bit smoother than the first day. They also have a quality to them that makes them extra noisy and rattly.

 They are loud in the most annoying way. I have heard other blue switches and some of the have a sophisticated quality to them but these simply sound horrible.

+Build quality: The keyboard feels solid and really sturdy on your desk. It also doesn’t move or slip. The wrist rest doesn’t move either.

What annoys me the most about this keyboard in general is that it doesn’t hold up to older Steelseries products quality. To me, it is clear that Steel series is targeting the less experienced consumers and not professional gamers anymore. I mean, there is no way a pro gamer puts up with this quality. It is just unacceptable from Steel Sereis

Apex 5: Beautiful keyboard but not worth the money [low quality keycaps and terrible switches]

 I was easily able to adjust each of the 10 zones of RGB illumination to fit my preferences, and you can even program the lighting to react to in-game actions such as taking damage, which is a nice dynamic addition at this price point. While I would have liked to see per-key customizable lighting or synchronicity between devices, for the price I really can't complain. There are hotkeys that control brightness and they allow you to toggle through the different lighting effects for added convenience. Even though I was disappointed that the keyboard lacks onboard memory, you can save your customized profiles with the cloud sync option if you have an account, which is really helpful

 Overall, my typing experience was decent and I found the keys are actually easily actuated, but the switches do have a long pre-travel distance, so I found that the soft switches could feel a little slow and stiff at first. I think one of the main benefits here is how quiet the keyboard is, especially compared to budget mechanical keyboards, like the Red Dragon K552 RGB, so any late night gaming sessions won't cause any disturbances. These switches also offer you a really solid lifespan of 20 million key presses. You also get access to the intuitive SteelSeries Engine 3, a companion software that gives you a wealth of customizable settings

 I could also program macros and remap nearly every key, which is an impressive feature that even some top-end keyboards don't offer. You can also edit the keyboard's polling rate for added functionality and gaming versatility. I also found that the Apex 3 performed very well in-game. You can assign programmed macros to the lesser-used keys, which makes it very suitable for a variety of games

Non-Mechanical Keyboard Recommendations

 After repeating for each zone, I finally have a lit keyboard again. My corsair 60% keyboard lights back up without trouble when pressing a key to come out of sleep mode or when I reboot of the computer. The Steel Series engine software lets what should be a decent entry level TKL keyboard down.

 When the computer goes to sleep, or is turned off, and then turned back on, the software doesn't resend the lighting command, leaving a working keyboard without any backlighting that is not easy to see the keys. I have had to open the software and change the lighting zone color to get the backlight to work again, but for that zone. After repeating for each zone, I finally have a lit keyboard again. My corsair 60% keyboard lights back up without trouble when pressing a key to come out of sleep mode or when I reboot of the computer

 The Steel Series engine software lets what should be a decent entry level TKL keyboard down.

Software let's the Apex 3 TKL down

 I didn't feel like I was being held back by the mushiness or the slower feel, and I really liked it overall. As far as I'm concerned, there's really no reason to be afraid of these membrane switches on a gaming keyboard. Now let's talk about that one feature that definitely will make you a better gamer, the RGB lighting. SteelSeries did a good job making the RGB bright and vibrant

 And all that plastic makes it super lightweight and it's really noticeable as soon as you pick it up and hold it in your hands. Surprisingly though, they actually did a good job with the build despite all that plastic material because it's really rigid and solid feeling. There's a bunch of rubber pads on the bottom for grip, but this keyboard does have a tendency to move around a little bit when you're gaming when you start mashing keys and things get going really fast. And I think that's just because of how lightweight it is

 If we pull a few of these off, we can get a look at what's happening underneath. Now there's really not much to see here because it's a membrane board, so all there is are some plastic columns that hold the keycaps in place. The actual membrane or dome switches themselves are housed down inside there. I know a lot of gamers are just gonna straight up laugh at the idea of having a membrane keyboard these days, but I really don't think that's justified

 We got our USB cable here and it's not braided, nothing fancy, it's a plain rubber, but it's actually nice and thick and it feels well-made. And then we got this little installation guide here as well. There's just no way to do this review without mentioning plastic. We have a plastic frame, a plastic faceplate, plastic bottom, plastic keycaps, plastic membrane, you name it, it's plastic, you get the idea

Let's unbox and review the Steelseries Apex 3 TKL Gaming Keyboard! It was my first mechanical keyboard and I've loved it from day one. I very briefly had a Daskeyboard 4 Professional and didn't like it (can't remember why - I just got a MT2 at the same time and loved it so much more).

Can anyone recommend good low profile keyboards with low travel switches? Looking for a mechanical that basically replicate a generic USB keyboard at slightly higher quality - low force, low profile, low travel etc. The Keychron K1 looks nice, but currently unavailable.

i am on a redragon k582 now (first mech), but the key travels are way to deep compared to any cheap USB keyboard or a laptop keyboard. Seems like most mechanical keyboards are far deeper (both the keyboard and the switches) than any generic USB keyboard.

I even gave it a night to dry off, and still nothing, Looks like it's probably the end of the road for that board. Oh well, I was looking into getting my hands on a new keyboard anyway. What would you guys recommend? I'm open to going full size or sticking to 60%. I'm willing to spend $100-$200 on it.

Help - need new keyboard recommendation.

Have been using the G613 so far - it's great, wireless, long battery life (we're talking months long) and has a comfy wrist rest.

The problem is some of the keys started repeating (double-A, double-L)

Now - since I'm going to be swapping out - looking for something a bit nicer to type on (70% of the time I spend typing and 30% gaming) so looking towards something with clicky MX Blue (or similar) switches and I rarely end up using the numpad so TKL would be great.

Looked into 65% keyboards as well but I use the Home/End/Delete keys A LOT - so unless it has those three keys outside of a combination - not for me.

Options I'm considering:

1. G915 TKL

* (PRO) Wireless but not Bluetooth (with dedicated receiver) so no extra cables and no gaming lag to be expected, uses same tech as G613 and should be nice
* (PRO) Low profile so I can probably go without a wrist rest
* (PRO) Has Clicky switches

* (CON) Battery life will be lower than the G613

I'm looking for a 65%, wireless, backlit keyboard that's priced somewhere between $100 and $200. Is the Keychron K6 a good option? And has anyone else experienced wrist discomfort when using the K6?

Hi fellows, please recommend a mechanical keyboard (even though I have no idea if I need one but what the hey), that **does not** have the numbers keys on the right hand side. I'm looking for a keyboard without that more for ergonomic reasons, the mechanical thing is just a side-trip I want to try out. :) Thanks.

I've received my first mech keyboard last week.After a lot of reading I settled on a Drop Alt.Very happy with it as is, but of course I'm already looking forward to modding it ASAP.

The one thing I've noticed (which I also heard brought up as a downside in the reviews) is that there is quite a bit of case ping.

Next up, the switches. I ordered my Alt with Halo Clears, which feel pretty damn good to me, if a tad heavy. I am super curious about the Pandas, so I'm currently waiting for my Glorious Holy Pandas to come in.Outside of those, I'm also looking to try a silent tactile switch (or more likely, as silent as possible), since I will probably build/mod a second keeb for use at work.

I hear a lot about the Zeal Zilent V2s, but I also noticed that MKUltra has some Boba Silent Tactile U4s in stock.Could anyone with more knowledge point out the difference in sound and feel between those, or recommend me a good silent tactile switch?

I also plan on switching out the stabilizers, as I've heard the stock ones aren't the best.I see most people recommend original Cherry stabs, but I also hear a lot of praise about Zeal and Durock stabs. Do they have plate mount stabs, or are they only PCB mount?Which ones would you guys recommend?

Finally, the lubing, the area I'm most unfamiliar with.I was thinking Krytox GPL 205 g0 for the stabs.I ordered the G-lube with my glorious pandas, I'm assuming it will go well with them?What lube would be best for the Zilents/Bobas?Should I use a different lube for the springs and switches?

Too many letters being typed

I have a corsair strafe rgb mk.2 keyboard (cherry mx red switches) and when I’m typing on it for school, browsing the web, etc I tend to have too many a’s typed even when I press the key only as long as what (I think) should only give me 1 letter. Is this a problem with the switch on that key or something more?

Question: If I buy the "D65 mechanical keyboard kit" and swap the PCB for "KBD67 v2 MKII RGB PCB" are they compatible? Both are hot swap.

Are there any 75% keyboards that have the same key *widths as 80% or 60% (so that it would be compatible with those key cap sets, even if the set has less or more total keys)?
