Some nice bass for metal

This is my first "real" bass and I'm generally pretty satisfied with the sound/feel. My main qualm is that it's clear that they cut a few corners to bring the cost of this bass down so low - this is especially noticeable when you're really looking close at the bass (otherwise it looks/feels like a great instrument from afar). Particularly noticeable on the one I received is that two of the pickguard screws don't actually fit in their drilled holes, so I'm constantly (daily) needing to screw them back in or else they'd just fall out and be lost. I can't complain much since it really isn't enough to send it back

So I've been looking at two basses at &lt;500€, which are a Squier Classic Vibe 70s Jazz Bass, and a Sire Marcus Miller V5 Alder

So the Sire is around 80€ more expensive, which, in my situation, is a good chunk of cash - which I could in theory spend though

My question is: is the Sire a significant upgrade from the squier? I know it's got a roasted maple neck and all, but is that a big factor, if I'm going to distort my sound either way (I mainly play metal)?

[Question] What bass to go for as a beginner?

 Over time it began to sound super groggy and distorted . I tried different cables , amps . It was the bass guitar . Unfortunately I had to return it

 I was let down AGAIN. So back it went . Although it sounded great , could not get a functioning bass guitar atleast here in Amazon.

Good evening Reddit, I switched to short scale bass at the end of last year and I need another short scale bass. In a live situation my band plans on switching tunings at least once so I’d ideally want 1-2 more basses with the shorter scale length. 

Currently I have a Gibson SG bass which I use as my number one, I also have a Hofner Ignition which I’m not a huge fan of. Body shape isn’t for me and I don’t like how I can’t use heavier gauge strings. 

I plan on purchasing a Mustang bass however I’d like to know what you all recommend. My budget is around $500-$1000 new but if there’s something good used for cheaper I would be open to it. Thanks in advance!

Short Scale

 The pickup, pots, and preamp are surprisingly good for the price point. So $50 for a DIY bassist, $200 if done by a technician. I’m also going to put a Tru-Oil finish on the neck and fretboard, the maple neck is decent but completely unfinished and I find it a bit sticky. I’m pretty happy with the bass, so far as an Indonesian Stingray knockoff goes

Cheap active basses

 Its very odd. A little darker and it would have been almost brown or a little lighter it would have been yellow. I sent mine back. Flesh tone was not what I wanted

I'm looking for a cheaper punchy-sounding option, either a new bass or some pickups that will go in my sire v3 (jazz type pickups)... Dingwalls also sound AMAZING, but they're also really expensive. Any suggestions?
