 This pedal dropped this week, and the first thing that struck me when I unboxed it was right here on the label. It doesn't say amp sim, it doesn't say IR loader, it literally says on the front, amp and IR cab. That's a pretty bold claim. Now, in today's video, we're going to put the Iridium through its paces, show you some of the different sounds that it's capable of

 But that's it. This thing's pretty simple. So I've been living with the Iridium for almost two weeks at this point, and I've played it every single day since unboxing it about two weeks ago. My initial thoughts are, it sounds really good

 So basically this is three amps with three different cabinets for each amp. You have a Fender Deluxe Reverb, a Vox AC30, and a Marshall Plexi. And there's three individual slots for each one of those amps where you can load IRs onto or impulse responses, which are basically models of specific speaker and cabinet combinations. Now when they released the pedal, they also released some software to go with it to manage your impulse responses

 That's a pretty bold claim. Now, in today's video, we're going to put the Iridium through its paces, show you some of the different sounds that it's capable of. I'm going to tell you what I like about it, what I don't like about it. Also compare it to one of its most popular competitors and hopefully answer the question, should you buy one

Should You Buy The Strymon Iridium?

I now use a Strymon Iridium to play directly into an audio interface. Since doing this I’ve sold quite a few pedals too since I can cover all of those sounds with plug-ins and now I can easily record everything I do. Feels really nice!.

I’ve been playing the drums for years and just recently purchased a Jackson JS32 Dinky along with a 12W Orange Crush combo amp. 

I also have a Jackson bass and bass combo amp. 

I started to notice the mess with cords and pedals. I’m still new to guitar but I can only imagine the mess getting worse as more equipment comes in. 

Maybe I don’t need more equipment since I just play at home but I wanted to hear thoughts from other minimalist musicians and how you keep your areas nice and minimal.

at least freeing up space for a second favorite button.  2. The reverb to me is just horrible. Needs a complete re-work for live use imho

 However, just like a real amp, fronted with a Timmy (volume 100%, gain 0%) on the Marshall setting this little wonder sounds phenomenal and goes easily into metal territory. Cleans up decently (but not as much as I would like) with the guitar's volume knob. Sounds good with IEMS, and sounds even better into a PA speaker (or into my case, a Headrush 108 floor wedge). Clean and edge of clean tones on the Fender channel are excellent

 And there's other options like shift, line, twin. The simplifier was one thing I tried that I didn't really get on with. um, but I think the Iridium is definitely a good option. This is also another good option, and probably there's going to be more of these sorts of things that come along

 Here's the evidence. Anyways, [Music] Um, today I wanted to sort of do like a report card on the stream Iridium. Um, it's been like a year now since it's been out. I think obviously there was a little bit of a weird start there where most people couldn't really get their hands on one

 Uh, how much effort is putting in and also what it could do in the future. So I think where the the Strymon Iridium really excelled was. I guess probably most of us have had that experience with an Amp modeler where you plug it in and um, potentially it's quite a while before you end up getting some usable tones out of it. or you've got to figure out some things

 Um, so far really good. Uh, great work they've done so far with it. It'd be nice to see if they can do some more, you know. Features that I'd really like is to maybe be able to swap in a different reverb kind of impulse, and maybe even maybe they might even bring out some new kind of amps and stuff for it and continue to build on what the Iridium has already done

Strymon Iridium - ONE YEAR ON - still good?

 I took off another star because Irridium did not have an XLR output, which I knew when I ordered it. Fortunately, I had a direct box to convert 1/4" to XLR. The result of this was such a significant drop in volume as to have to rely totally on the mixers preamplifier to recover the signal. Overall the unit was not right for my application, but it may well be right for yours

Immediately plugging in headphones to listen to the base tones and manipulate the controls, I was totally impressed with the sound of this unit. Very sweet sounding AND very accurate to the models emulated. Step 2 was replacing the Atomic Amplifire at the end of my pedalboard with the Irridium to see how it took my pedals. The conclusion was that the Irridium did not take pedals nearly as well

 After spending enough time to be certain of this, I was resolved to take it off. This would have resulted in a 4 star rating, because the base tones were really good and for many applications would be worth the price of admission. I took off another star because Irridium did not have an XLR output, which I knew when I ordered it. Fortunately, I had a direct box to convert 1/4" to XLR

[NEWBIE] what amp should I get if I'm only going to be using headphones?

I was looking for a modeler that would give me the kind of blistering lead sound I have with standalone gear. I found that using the Punch(?) amp setting (the third setting, can't recall what it is called) to get to that goal was untenable. Regardless of cab used with that amp selection I found that if the Drive and/or Level were too high I got an awful feedback at a very high frequency. It did not abate when I moved the floor board to another room or when I changed guitars or when I changed power source

 I  was gifted an electric guitar for my birthday last year since Ive  always wanted to learn since I was a kid. My problem is I have to be  quiet for the time being while Im living in an apartment for the next  year.

I have a very small Orange  Amp, which even on low apparently disturbs my neighbors. I want to find a  way to play my guitar through my PC. Why the pc? Well mainly because I  have a pretty decent headset already and the sound quality is pretty  darn good. Secondly, I want to be able to record a song and see my  progression.

Problem is, I have no  idea how to do this. My birthday is coming up again and I figured I  would add some gear ideas to accomplish this.

[GEAR] Learning to play but need to be quieter? Cheap method to play the guitar via my PC/Headphones?

Great amp/cab sim in one. It's def for people that want to use their pedals and not totally change over to processors.  I normally use a tube amp with a 4x12 cab but due to a broken back this year I'm going direct into an insanely loud Headrush FRFR108 speaker that weights 19lbs. This will keep up with a metal drummer

  I'd be quick to jump ship if I could go to another amp/cab IR pedal that offered more of what I wanted for high gain. Would like to see Neural DSP offer the same thing without having to buy an entire processor (quad cortex).

  I use a boss SD1 overdriver with the volume on that up all the way, eq to taste and the driver all the way down and it tightens the Strymon Marshall and Strymon Vox settings. I also went in and changed the Cab IR's to get me what I was looking for.  My favorite setting is the Marshall on the stock Cab A setting with my SD1 fed into my Headrush FRFR 108 speaker. It sounds good, not perfect but really good
