I really liked the vocals when I was using them with a stereo amp and playing music through them and I tested them with a variety of different amps and receivers over the few weeks that I had them. Really, I don't have many complaints about these

Review: SVS Prime Towers

 The mid-range and bass are surprisingly good for a speaker of this price. I have to say that is the most impressive part of these speakers. Detail, separation and presence are also good - but not outstanding. The big problem to me though is how hot or bright they sound with the aluminum dome tweeter

 I know this is common with metal dome tweeters but this speaker seems particularly bright. I have compared it to silk domes and ribbon tweeters and it just grates on me when I return to these. The sound is "tiring" after a while. The best solution I found was to attenuate the treble by -3db

I bought these a year ago directly from SVS and have plenty of break-in time on them. I now use these as the main stage (front L/R) speakers for the home theater upstairs. The mid-range and bass are surprisingly good for a speaker of this price. I have to say that is the most impressive part of these speakers

Like a lot of new speakers we're seeing now, the aluminum tweeter is covered by a protective grille, great if you have kids or very drunken friends. These are very detailed and dynamic speakers and will work in both home theatre setups or in two-channel and you may not even need a subwoofer depending on the size of your room

SVS Prime Tower an audiophile's value pick

I'm giving this three stars because while they might work in some rooms, they did not work in mine. The bass was way too loud with my room acoustics and I almost instantly had listening fatigue. The mid and treble were nice, but i still think you can find better for the price. I think the prime bookshelves with a sub would be a better value and more versatile option for various room configurations, Especially if you do not have any bass management in your pre-amp

 Basically, Diamond 240 can push hard. 95 dB, 100 dB is still keeping the sound signature stay composed. I can still listen to my music, even with that level of loudness, but not with the Prime Towers. Prime Towers are good up to I would say 88 dB, probably 90 dB, 92 dB the max

 So that is my finding with these speakers. I really enjoy them from like low level loudness to up to like 85 dB. They are phenomenal, very musical speakers. So if you listen to music up to like 85 dB or 88 dB, these are great buys

 It's perfect. If you like jazz, if you like slow music, if you like rock, classical, blues, like and like those kind of music, these speaker really shines because of that bass performance. And I think this is a one of the hidden gem for most audio files. If you're looking for like a thousand dollar speakers for your two channel music or even, you know, home theater, you should consider SVS Prime because better than most of the speakers in this price range, especially in the bass performance

 But these Prime Towers, build quality, buff as size, and fit and finish quality components like, you know, piano, glass finish cabinets. It's awesome. I really like the design of the speakers and then the size of the speakers. So that is my reference speakers

They sound excellent with certain types of music like acoustics and male vocals. But with other types they were a bit on the bright side.

 We'll do a REW, and then I'll tell you what I think about the sound in specific at the end. So let's get started. The Prime Tower speaker is a three-way bass reflex design. It comes in two colors, premium black ash, as well as the piano gloss black

 So let's go ahead and take a look at the speaker. I'm going to tell you a little bit about what it's got going on. We'll do a REW, and then I'll tell you what I think about the sound in specific at the end. So let's get started

 I love the piano black, and I'm really happy to have a pair in piano black to take a look at in my environment. It looks super. Finish and build is always top-notch for everything from SVS. That's always one of their big selling points, and the speaker has great dynamics

 I don't like the way the feet look, meaning that you don't really see any feet on it at all. This is a cosmetic thing, and it's really just driven by personal taste. But I think it would be kind of cool to have some more interesting feet on the bottom to give it a little more character. Right now, it's just kind of a box and it stops on the floor, and that's okay, but it'd be cool if there's a little bit extra

The best speaker you didn't know about: The SVS Prime Tower.

I don’t think one can do much better for the price of these. You can run these without a sub (I have one) and haven’t added it back into my system.  I’m not a big bass freak.

My neighbors aren't pleased, but I sure am!

 It is not the Martin Logan sound but very acceptable, nonetheless.  I would recommend these speakers (towers, center and satellites) very lighly. I'm almost beginning to wonder if I should consider changing out the 15 year old Aeons for an SVS Ultra surround package.

 With about 20 hours of break-in, the ultra brightness has started to fade and the warmth is increasing. I am very surprised with how detailed my music (played on a mini-PC and iTunes) sounds. It is not the Martin Logan sound but very acceptable, nonetheless.  I would recommend these speakers (towers, center and satellites) very lighly
