 The 9V batteries seem to drain as long as there's a cord plugged into it. It was very frustrating since I burned through two sets of 9V batteries the first two times I tried using the thing. I assumed the device was broken or I didn't know how to use it. Using a multi-meter I found two brand new 9V batteries dead after just one use, after leaving the cords plugged in over night

 9V batteries will burn out very quickly and it seems from reading reviews that the way to preserve the battery life is to unplug the jacks going into the Ditto after your done using it. After purchasing the TC Ditto X2 upon its release and being thoroughly impressed with it, I decided to try the next pedal in the Ditto product line, the X4. With a few minor exceptions, I absolutely love this thing and I am glad I upgraded. Before buying it, I was doing a lot of research online about it, but one thing I noticed was that there wasn't much information about how it's midi capabilities work. Well, once I got it out of the box and connected it to my midi sequencer, I realized why that was -- it literally requires no midi setup of any kind! You simply feed it a Clock source through it's midi input and it immediately latches onto whatever tempo is coming into it

 I don't find any of the onboard effects to be very useful. Instead of all the rather silly effects, how about giving us a third looping track? Any further complaints I might make are actually more like feature requests for a future product, so I will leave that out of this review. Suffice it to say, this is a beast of a looping pedal! I did a lot of research across a lot of brands before deciding on this as an upgrade from the X2 and I don't regret it one bit.

Looper nirvana

 There's more sophisticated loopers out there but the Ditto Simplicity is a good match for me. If you're looking for a strong performance tool you may want to go with something else. I see the Ditto as more of a practicing writing tool and I don't need more than 5 minutes loop time or memory slots to save different loops. There are some cheaper Ditto clones out there now but I'd be wary of the build quality on the cheaper ones

 We do an overdub, we're not happy with it, but we love the original loop and we don't want to lose it. Let's leave that in even though there's a little bit of a clip at the end of the loop because I missed that and then I'll just have a noodle over the top so you can see how that all fits together. All right. So one of the things you might have noticed there was there's a lot going on and there's a bit of distortion happening because basically there's too much guitar signal for the speaker

 Apart from the guide you'll also receive a sticker and a promotional leaflet and these two stick on rubber feet, that's rubber not velcro. On the left hand side of the pedal is an input jack, a power jack that you're going to need because there's no space for a battery and a USB port which is only for firmware updates I think. On the right hand side of the pedal is an output jack. This pedal's not going to take up much space on your board, it's about the same size as other mini pedals and a lot smaller than what some of us might call standard pedals

 So that's easy to spot what's going on. If I click that now, this is not in the quick start guide, that'll go straight into play mode from the beginning of the loop. So that's great if you were playing something and you wanted to stop, do a little interlude and then come back and do it. So let's do that and then let's try overdubbing a layer

Best beginner looper pedal on a budget?

 This was a Big Problem because I had purchased the Ditto so that I could play the harmonies live that I have on my recordings, but the sound quality turned out to be so bad when I played the second part over the looped part that, frankly, I was ready to return the Ditto and give up on the looping thing altogether. Then I decided to put the Ditto in the effects loop of my amp--a Mesa Mark V--along with the TC Electronics G-Force that was already in the effects loop, and I got the crystal-clear sound quality that I expect from TC Electronic products for both the loop I recorded and the part I play over it. In fact, the added benefit of having the Ditto in the effects loop is that you can record a phrase using the clean channel of the amp and then switch channels to a lead channel and play an overdriven lead on top of the clean loop, or the other way around if you like. The reason I have given the Ditto 4 stars instead of 5 is because to clear the loop you've recorded on the Ditto, you have to hold down the button, and the loop continues to play for like a second after you depress the button--kind of irritating

Well--this is my first looper, and I've been playing guitar for a long, long, long time. After I plugged in the 9v power supply, which I purchased from Amazon at the same time I got the Ditto, I placed the Ditto between my guitar and amp. I played a phrase and recorded it on the Ditto and then hit the button again and the phrase played back.

..but I'll live with it because of the great sound quality and the fact that I can't detect any noise, hum, buzz, or anything of the sort from the Ditto.
