Look at TCL for the budget tv’s. Anything besides TCL in the same price range will be garbage.  The TCL 5 series is very affordable, as is the 4 series, and will do you good.

Big difference between entry level tvs and the nicer ones is the back light technology. The nicer tvs will have full array local dimming with 80+ zones which allows them to hit higher brightness without severely reducing contrast which is one of the biggest indicators of quality which is why oled tvs are thought of as the best picture quality since they have infinite contrast. Something like the tcl 6 series or maybe even the 5 series is the cheapest you can go to get that although the 5 series doesn't get very bright for hdr content as ideally you'd want about 1000 nits. Look at rtings for reviews.

I have LG and Samsung at home. I am way more satisfied with the LG. The operating system is very stable unlike Samsung which crashes Youtube and Netflix apps way too often. In all fairnes i payed more for the LG (55”) because it’s my living room tv, and the Samsung (43”) is my bedroom tv. But all in all LG is better for me

I've had a 65" 4K LG for several years and it has been fantastic.  I think I paid $750 for it though. LG makes good TVs, but you can never buy a TV just based on brand alone. Each model is different. Sometimes you'll even see very different reviews between different sizes within the same product line. 
Read reviews for this particular model. If it sounds good enough buy it. If you don't like the way it looks in your viewing space just return it.

I have a 70” LG UHD 4K tv and the HDR SUUUUUUCKS. It has this vertical haloing around anything bright. Subtitles make the whole picture weird.

I agree this seems a little low priced, probably for a reason. However I've found LG to be a dependable brand.

u/ThriftyAsian, I was gonna get a LG OLED a for living room and then decided to save money and put it towards my dedicated HT. Went to rtings.com and then Best Buy to compare the bottom of their top pack (aka budget picks) with my own eyes. 

Choosing between Vizio M-series, some TCL and one other TV I really couldn’t tell the difference in store between those. Went with Vizio because I didn’t care for framerate on a living room TV and the other TV OS was reportedly laggy. 

Tbh, I kinda hate it but it works for the living room and/or less discerning viewers. Either one of them is night and day vs. OLED. Also more than 1/2 less $. Worst part about those budget ones imo is not even OS or frame rates but the shitty blacks. During the day, no biggie. Ruins the evening movie for me. YMMV. But beware you won’t see the shitty blacks in the store, too bright for that.

If you buy it from Walmart, your asking for trouble. There are reasons their products are so cheap.  It might be a LG or. Samsung or Sony, but trust me when I say it's not built the same. It's as if Walmart gets the products that barely passed assembly line inspections.  I had a TV from Walmart fail with in the first 12 months, got replaced under warranty, just for the replacement to also fail. Walmart carries garbage products at a discount. You think your getting a steal of a deal on a 4k.  I would suggest Sony Bravia. Go straight to source or find a reputable dealer. Just my two cents.

Think twice before buying this tv. I purchased this tv 5 months before and now I am having dust in panel of this tv. Asked sony for replacement, they rejected saying its a minor problem.

Just get a Tcl 6 series and call it a day. That’s going to be your best bet from a value and quality perspective. It competes and has some features of higher end tvs like the Q80, and 900H plus it seems to have less issues than the Hisense H9 and tbh unless your going to add to your budget(which seems very unlikely) to try to grab a 900H, 950H, or Q80, your options are limited you could also look at a Vizio P-series I think it’s right at $999 but I trust Tcl more than Vizio in terms of longevity at this point.

So first things first - I'm an extremely value conscious buyer.  I'm usually looking for the absolute best bang for the absolute least buck.  So please bear this in mind with your replies.  OLED's are a straight up non-starter due to cost - I'm quite certain they are heavenly to look at but there's no way I'm spending over $1,000 on a TV.

Ok so with that in mind I'm curious to get your experiences with buying QLED TV's.  I've got about $900 to spend and I'm shopping in the 65" range for a basement space that is about 16' across and about 10' deep.  The tv will be on the 16’ wall meaning we will be sitting 10-ish feet from it. This will be a mixed use setup with gaming (XBOX SX), streaming (Netflix, Youtube) and movies (UHD BR) being the primary activities more or less in that order.

I've looked at the TCL 5-series and 6-series and they both seem to have their own curious drawbacks.  Rtings seems to like the HiSense - I have a 65" HiSense (LCD) currently and I think it's unremarkably fine.  Once you start getting into the Samsungs of the world, that's where I'm no longer willing to pay what it takes to land one of those.

TCL R635 now seems like the clear best option after learning it has a 120hz mode up to 1440p.  Big winner for gaming, close enough on all the other features.

<p>I&#39;ve looked at the TCL 5-series and 6-series and they both seem to have their own curious drawbacks.  Rtings seems to like the HiSense - I have a 65&quot; HiSense (LCD) currently and I think it&#39;s unremarkably fine.  Once you start getting into the Samsungs of the world, that&#39;s where I&#39;m no longer willing to pay what it takes to land one of those.</p>

<p>TCL R635 now seems like the clear best option after learning it has a 120hz mode up to 1440p.  Big winner for gaming, close enough on all the other features.</p>

Buying advice - QLED TV's

A very good TV, but still could use improvements.

I've been debating upgrading my current TV forever, and the Vizio MQ7 70" went on sale today for $750, the lowest price I've saw yet.  
I'll be using the TV for mostly gaming. I had debated more expensive models like the TCL 6 series, Sony X90, and Hisense U7G, but in the end I couldn't justify spending twice the price of the Vizio for other models. In the end my kids deserve more for Christmas than I deserve a slightly better TV.  
Rtings.com lists this Vizio as their best budget gaming TV for Xbox Series X, and so far I'm very happy. One thing to note, Rtings list this model as having HDMI 2.0, however all HDMI connections are in fact 2.1. The panel is 60hz however, so no 120hz gaming.  
I upgraded from a Vizio D650i, which was a budget 1080 TV from a few years ago. Movies are an immediate improvement, and I'm going to rewatch all my favorite MCU movies again because of how great they now look. Gaming is an improvement as well, I'm still dialing in the color, and I'm not sure if I like SDR or HDR for gaming yet, but I'm definitely happy.
