If you're looking for something even bigger then the TCL 65R646 is the best 65-inch TV under $1,000. It's very similar to the Hisense U8H in terms of features, but the trade-off of getting a larger TV for the same price is that it has worse overall performance. For example, it has a high native contrast ratio like the Hisense, and it has a full-array local dimming feature. However, the local dimming is worse on the TCL because it doesn't improve the picture quality as much, but the overall performance is still decent. It also gets bright enough to fight glare, and the reflect handling is excellent, so visibility isn't a problem.

Like the Hisense, it comes with Google TV as its built-in smart platform, so you get all the same great apps, a user-friendly smart interface, a mic in the remote, and another mic inside the TV to access the voice assistant features. If you watch movies, it supports both Dolby Vision and HDR10+, meaning you can watch HDR content at their full capabilities, and it displays native 4k content without any problems.

So today we're going to have a review comparing the 6 Series to the Samsung and the U8G and you can determine for yourself whether this is a flagship and my closing thoughts at the end. But now with the 6 Series there, I prefer and I will recommend even for an extra $100, the 6 Series R646 for 2021 over the Hisense

 All right, let's get out of here and wrap it up. Wow, TCL, you deserve an applause. What you've done at the $1,300 mark definitely, I believe, is better than a Sony X90J. I'm getting the Sony X95J, but I suspect the way it's performing, I don't know, Sony is going to have a hard time beating it for more

2021 TCL 6 Series Google TV Review: WOW [R646]

 Changing the picture settings is a real challenge. The hierarchy and navigation was not developed by a team who considered UX as a priority. When you do change the settings, the video sometime stops. Sometimes! Inconsistency isn’t a good sign of a bug-free future

 It also supports variable refresh rates, which is great for a tear-free gaming experience. Now for the smart interface, and this is quite interesting. Typically, TCL has released TVs with the Roku Smart Platform in North America. This year though, TCL has released a few TVs like this one with the Google TV interface

1 ports. This is excellent for those who want to be future-proof and results in a responsive experience and detailed image. It also supports variable refresh rates, which is great for a tear-free gaming experience. Now for the smart interface, and this is quite interesting

 TCL tends to be pretty responsive, so while we expect these to be fixed in a firmware update, we can't guarantee it. Besides this, there's a wide range of apps and the menus are easy to use and navigate. The sound of this TV is good, and actually a bit better than many of the TVs we've tested. It's still a TV speaker though, and not as good as an external soundbar or speakers, so if you really care about good sound, then an external speaker system is the way to go

TCL 6 Series/R646 2021 TV Review - Mini LED 4K TV with Google TV

 I should be able to use the "Live" option off the home screen, but about half the time it doesn't work. Fortunately selecting the input manually always works, but by then I've wasted time trying to see if the "Live" option will work. You're used to 40+ years of turning on the TV and having it work, so this is an almost daily annoyance.  A bigger irritation is that the streaming apps kind of suck

HBOMax is known to have issues where it just can't seem to pull the streaming data fast enough to stream smoothly - it stutters, shows digital noise, or buffers frequently. The Disney+ app has a known issue where everything's green

 They just weren't as consistent there.  I am disappointed that this TCL TV and my TCL soundbar don't work together a little better, though. I believe it IS TCL's fault that the video and audio almost never line up (peoples' lips aren't synched with the sound under most circumstances, even after fiddling with the relevant controls). Also, if I mute and unmute the TV, the sound will jump around - often much louder when I unmute than it was when I muted it

 And watching content on here just showcases the HDR beauty that is this display. You got all those apps you'd need of course, Disney, Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube. And I only just found out this TV also has Bluetooth capability, so only I will hear the vile things a Call of Duty lobby has to say about my mom. And cherry on top, this does have Google TV OS, so it is really clean and it works really really well

 While I'm working, the Google Home is good for a quick currency exchange or a quick question even while I am gaming. Throwing up some lo-fi tunes while using my other setup is neat. And watching content on here just showcases the HDR beauty that is this display. You got all those apps you'd need of course, Disney, Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube

 Starting off, this is a 4K panel of course, meaning the new generation consoles and built in entertainment apps will look absolutely incredible. This does have high refresh capabilities up to 120Hz with the two HDMI 2.1 ports. It also supports auto low latency mode or ALLM in its automatic gaming mode which picks up as soon as you hop on any console as well as variable refresh rate

 As expected, since the picture quality is so good. Frankly, if you were to use a game console and nothing else with this TV, I think you'd be in really good shape because you wouldn't be switching inputs, you wouldn't be relying on the smart TV apps, you'd just stick to one 4K 120 hertz HDMI input and be golden. Oh, and as far as sound quality goes, it's passable. The TV has separate mid-range drivers and tweeters, and that helps a little bit with clarity, but it still sounds kind of boxy

TCL 6-Series Google TV (R646) Review | Worth The Trouble?

 Volume control is like an F1 car. Hold volume up for two seconds and your volume is rocketing to max. Hold volume down for two seconds and you are muted. I get that all remotes are plastic but this thing feels extremely cheap

 Menus are not really that intuitive and time from menu activation on the remote to response on the screen lags just enough to make you think you have to try it again. Once you are in the menus the remote feedback is fine. My understanding is that the Google TV OS is relatively new so I’m hoping for some general updates to that in the future. Aside from the TCL remote annoyance, I’ve actually been totally fine using the Google TV apps

 Too bright in many instances and I had to spend some time diving into menus and adjusting settings to get it to where I felt it was correct. This TV upgraded a 7 year old Samsung so I’ve been out of the TV game for awhile. This setup process might be par for the course for TV’s these days but it was a bit annoying. The TV menus aren’t exactly the most intuitive and it took some YouTubing and trial and error over about a week of watching and testing to get it to my liking

Fantastic value with some drawbacks. Update made 4K Apple TV unusable.
