I always recommend the Trek Fuel EX5. It’s listed on treks site at $2500. I bought one for sons when they were a little cheaper. When I bought them they were listed at $2000 on the site but I paid around $1600 so it may be a marketing ploy to raise the listed site so you feel like you’re getting a good deal.

I'm 280lbs closer to 300 with kit ect, I hired a trek fuel ex 5 the weekend just gone, I rode at coed y brenin MTB trails, started off on blue trail and then moved to a red, the reds had alot of rock gardens, steep rooty descents and alot of drops some over 18" tall, and a fair few jumps, the bike held up beautifully and put my mind at ease and allowed me to enjoy the trail. The guys at the rental set up the bike for my weight, I didn't feel the suspension bottom out, altho I did get a few pedal strikes but nothing that would slow me down or get me to doubt being on the bike.

I’d recommend saving up a bit more to get into that 2100-2200 price point that a lot of the bigger companies start their full suspension line at. I ride a Trek Fuel EX5 and I’ve found it to be a great bike. A couple things to make sure you’re getting at that price point:.
