 Unfortunately we're going to skip the adoption and configuration of the new access point if you guys want to see that I would highly recommend checking out another youtuber's channel that will totally walk you through that process in a much better way than I probably ever will but nonetheless we are going to look at speed tests. Now the AC Pro is much further away it is in the living room behind the TV and it has a lot of walls that needs to penetrate in order to provide Wi-Fi access to this room and we'll be using the Mac Mini to do these speed tests. Now the AC Pro still manages to pull off a pretty respectable download speed of 200 megabits per second and delivers a whopping 220 megabits per second during upload transfers which is actually really good. Now obviously the long range access points can do much better because it's much closer but it does manage to give us a very nice download speed of 360 megabits per second and a very nice upload speed of 350 megabits per second

 We got our ethernet cable run and installed here in the patch panel so we're just going to use the signature blue cable to identify that this is power over ethernet and we're going to just plug it in here and once we get the access point installed that should light up so it's time to do the access point stuff. All right so if we did this all correctly it should line up almost immediately and also have data but that's not something we're going to know until after we get hooked up and it lit up so that's one good sign let's get this thing mounted and configured and that looks pretty lined up to me it's definitely a little wider but yeah it's going to look good up there. I'd like to get a Wifi access point that supports Wifi 6/6e, and is generally compatible  with most devices.

Use case is to add Wifi 6 to my PFsense router, which I'm currently testing in a VM, but plan to convert to a physical setup.

May decide to go with a mesh network down the road. I would like to avoid Asus and maybe netgear, due to customer service issues in the past.

If there's an option for an open firmware that could be installed, that would awesome.

Looking for some AP recommendations for use with PFSense

Great wired.  Don't do mesh mode.

 We don't want to know how this performs at one location. How does a bunch of these perform at a bunch of different locations? What were the challenges? What were some of the problems you run into? And because of the limited availability, I've kind of avoided doing some in-depth reviews on any of the Wi-Fi 6. So I wanted to make this video to one, kind of mention that. And two, yes, we have been testing them though, but I'm not going to dive into speed tests

 So you kinda gotta buy one and maybe if you have to buy one more or even still put a couple of those less expensive outdoor access points outside, which I thought I was gonna have to do and didn't, but they should roam fine between them using these devices right here.  Chris from Crosstalk Solutions, I'll leave a link to his video down below, did a series of speed tests on these devices. Now they're fast and they're Wi-Fi 6. One of the problems though, and we've done a lot of testing internally, I just don't bother publishing it because the numbers don't give a lot of meaning. Now, if you've not at all heard of Unifi before right now and you're just looking for a good Wifi 6 device, please be warned, you do need to run to get the most out of these, the Unifi Software Defined Networking Controller, which you can host yourself or buy a Unifi CloudKey or run a Unifi Dream Machine to connect to these

Ubiquiti Unifi U6-LR Quick Review

Long time lurker here, and 20 years in the network industry supporting firewalls etc, so I'm not a total noob. At one point, some 15 years ago, I had everything you guys post about here, a rack, patch panels, servers, complicated networking with VLANs and even a Palo Alto Virtual FW in the mix to secure it all. 

Maybe I'm just too old now, but I've out grown the need for that much complication in my life. I had great success at my old house with just a simple Netgear Orbi as it does most of what I need (once I cut out the vlan segmentation). 

BUT, I'm buying a new house and starting to think about what I'd want, which leads me to my original question: Why do you guys all seem to have such a hard on for Ubiquiti? I see lots of talk on here about POE and custom purpose Wireless APs etc. I'm just curious what use cases you guys have that justify all the complications. I hope it doesn't come across as rude or judgy, just genuine curiosity on why you guys go this route vs something like a TP-Link Deco setup (which is what I'm currently looking at). 

I really just need a router than can do basic port forwarding, guest wi-fi, and decent DHCP support. All of my vlan stuff is on a dedicated VM server, so I keep my house stuff pretty simple. IOT/smart devices go on the guest wi-fi, and I use the regular wi-fi for my own personal stuff. Most modern wifi routers allow you to segregate the two just fine. 

So, why would I want to invest what I assume is $1,000+ into Ubiquity or other 'prosumer' devices?

Why do you guys love Ubiquiti so much?

4 Gbps in the 5 GHz range. So if we take the averages of all of these scores and we put all of these access points up against each other to see the crosstalk benchmark score, it should be no surprise that the U6LR is now our new reigning access point champion with just over 400 megabits average between all of these different tests. And it's, you know, 50 megabits faster than the next closest competitor, which is really, really great. One final metric is the bang for your buck, right? This is $179 versus the, you know, U6 Lite at $99

 So by 15 cents per megabit, the Nano HD comes in at 60 cents per megabit. The U6LR comes in at 45 cents per megabit. So again, not the most scientific testing, but what is scientific about this testing is that I tested all of these access points in literally exactly the same way. So even if my testing isn't perfectly sound, the results should be sound when compared to all of the other access points that I've tested here

I am moving soon from an apartment to a new townhouse.  I have had a pretty good setup here in the apartment, but I'm looking forward to an opportunity to "learn forward" and make some better purchases in the future (i.e., goodbye Wyze Sense!).

I'm excited to purchase an OpenGarage!  I've never had a garage before.  As far as motion sensors, I'd like to move to either Zigbee or 433MHz motion sensors.  I purchased an Aqara motion sensor to test with my existing installation here in my apartment and am impressed so far.  I'd also like to look at Fyrtur blinds.  I will likely be using either Zooz or Innovelli switches.

And I'm starting to see drops become more common on all my devices. Just a quick rundown. We have two phones connected, a smart TV, an Amazon Firestick on a second TV, 12 smart bulbs, 2 smart plugs, a Google Hub, 2 Google minis, and a Google Chromecast that I've plugged into my "non-smart" soundbar to allow it to be part of my Google "speaker group."

I enjoy the setup and our house is not big. All single story and EVERY device is within 15 meters of the router/gateway. I have my lights, TV, and any music setup to be captured only by the Google Hub (or my phone via Google's "Home" app).

And I'm starting to get alot more "failed to connect to wifi" errors on the Hub, and routines aren't "snappy and quick" anymore. And I'm having to reset the bulbs more often.

Ngl, I didn't really have any problems the last 10 months (only on days when Google would send updates and the entire Google ecosystem was just all out of whack and I've seen weird stuff with Spotify before) but this last month has me almost questioning my actual wifi network and if I'm congesting the router with 25 devices...

The way I have my duel band connections are anything that can connect to the 5Ghz (phones, laptops, and smart TV) I run those there. As for all the home devices (bulbs, plugs, Google Hub, mini, chromecast, etc) are all ran on the 2Ghz band since they aren't capable of running on the 5Ghz and so they share one band between them.

Is this causing a "conflict" in the network? Or is this pretty standard in terms of sharing the load and is splitting devices between 2ghz and 5ghz a problem in how they can communicate?

And, lastly, is 25 devices too much for my type of router (where "most" of my devices are on the 2Ghz, and my higher usage and compatible devices are on the 5Ghz)?

Not really sure where to go from here. Everything works, but I've noticed more connection issues recently. Is it just the tech is slowing down like any tech would...but I'd imagine my Google Hub should have a long life than a year...

Just frustrated when I have to troubleshoot why a routine doesn't cycle through and I'm getting the, "something went wrong, please try again later" response from Google Hub when I say good morning, and all that's supposed to happen is the living room lights turn on and then it tells me the weather....but it's becoming more hit or miss...
