The one that Viofo tired selling me wanted me to buying the add-a-fuse circuit separate and install it. I suck at wiring and it took me about 1.5 hours to hardwire my radar detector to the fuse box.  Many dead batteries later, I decided enough was enough and will only power it when the car is on. To add, this came with no instructions. It took VIOFO almost 2 years to update the Amazon listing images to include better help, because previously - there was zero description of what each cord was supposed to connect to (minus the ground).

I have finally given up on using this for parking mode. The battery drop protection does not work, at all. Many dead batteries later, I decided enough was enough and will only power it when the car is on. To add, this came with no instructions

I had planned on just using power from my cigarette outlet since I didn't care about parking mode, however the outlets on my truck are hot 100% of the time so my camera would never shut off and thus I was forced to deal with getting this kit and installing it. It was a bit of an experience for someone with no automotive or electrical knowledge but it was doable thanks to information on these reviews, on the reviews of the fuse taps I bought, and from youtube videos.  So firstly, as other reviews mention, you will need the proper set of fuse taps for your car(you will use 2 of these). Secondly, for the fuse taps I bought I also needed a wire crimper tool to connect the tap to the bare wires on the end of this kit - this was something I guess everyone else takes for granted as universal knowledge, but I had to figure out about how to crimp wires for this

It Worked!! BUT, a Bit Tricky to Install and Feels Flimsy

The camera has about a gazillion different "parking modes". They should change the name of these to "automatic battery dead mode". Turned that off: I only want the camera to record when the engine is running. Other than that the adapter is OK I suppose
