 Uh, recently Pink Bike did a review on this bike so they gave it pretty. Uh, pretty solid review so we'll check it out here in New England Trails. All right. This is the Vitus Center 29 size large, comes with nuke proof bars uh Tektro brakes uh X Fusion 130 millimeter, 32 millimeter stanchion, uh fork? um the Wtb St I3 30 30 millimeter wide rims wrapped with Magic Mary in the front and a knobby nick in the rear

 Um, picked up a uh new bike. It's a hardtail uh 29er? that's Vitus Center. uh Baseline model. So we're gonna give it a run on the trails here at Bluff Point and uh, put it through its paces

 There got a drop coming up here. Definitely can feel the difference from a hardtail to a full suspension. Tell you what, this pretty snappy in the turns. A little bit more climbing here

 With The bike that we're testing the Vitus Sentier 29 VR retailing for $1,449, For that price, you'll get a Marzocchi Z2 fork, Shimano's 1x11 drivetrain,, Duo brakes, and a Brand-X Ascend dropper post. It has Schwalbe's Magic Mary up front, and a Nobby Nic in the rear. Altogether is weighs 30 pounds and 3 ounces. All Right,, that's enough

 I'm not sure if that's how you pronounce it, but its $1,459 and so we're testing it in the Value Hardtails category. It's got an aluminum frame, 29er wheels,, 130mm fork, and not a whole lot of rear travel, 0mm to be exact. Vitus says it's designed for aggressive hardtail trail riding and that all of the components have been chosen with that in mind. You Probably haven't seen Vitus at your local shop, that's because it's a direct to consumer brand, you can only get it through Wiggle or Chain Reaction Cycles

Hello! Been lurking around this thread and finally decided to make an account and ask some questions about mountain bikes. I have always been interested in them but never got into them due to the sheer amount of bikes that are offered and the cost. Been riding a fixie for several years, but always talked about trail riding.

Recently a friend bought a gravel bike and we talked about how we always wanted to go to bike parks, so we'll be taking the plunge soon. Money is still a factor for me to really get into it, but I'm now able to put a little more into it.

Personally, I am looking into a hardtail cause I believe that full suspension is not something I'll need since I am a novice. I've noticed a wide range of categories which were confusing, but after reading the faq, it made a little more sense.

Is it a dumb idea to buy a mtb that's in the 2k range? Or would something like a GT Aggressor which I found on sale recently be a better buy? Is there a benefit to buying from a big brand or specialty company? 

I appreciate any feedback and hope to enjoy this sport with you all :)

Hello r/MTB!! TL;DR is it better to buy a cheaper bike or buy something that could last?

Ive posted before about trying to find a good entry level hardtail, but find myself getting more and more confused the mor i look into it. Ive watched countless videos and have read almost every article i can find. I am looking to spend around the $800 mark and i understand that this comes with some sacrifices regarding specs. Does anyone have some suggestions or recomendations regarding a good trail bike in this price range. Im more interested in trail as opposed to XC. Dont know if that helps narrow it down. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

First Bike

Hi! New to mountain biking and reddit. I'm looking for a budget friendly starter mountain bike to put on my Christmas list. I'm a little overwhelmed with my search currently, since there are so many different bikes to choose from online! I've looked a little into these bikes (list below), but can't narrow it down. Looking for bikes under $1000 that I can ride without having to do major upgrades on after a few rides.

I am open to any and all suggestions you can give me. I currently have a $200 mongoose status 2.2. Love the bike but it definitely can't handle any rough terrain.

Best Budget Hardtails for Beginners?

Get a Vitus Sentier or a NukeProof scout. U can go look within there respective websites to find the model that fits your budget, but both are phenomenal hardtails for their price as their components are far nice than a trek at that price range and have modern, slacker geometry. I think it’s good to reconsider you’re purchase as you can get SOOO much better of a bike for the money.

I am brand new to mountain biking (starting at the worst time, apparently) and am currently shopping for my first bike. All of the local bike shops are completely out of inventory or are on pretty far out backorders. (SE Michigan)

I placed a deposit on a Trek Marlin 6 that will be arriving at the shop I ordered it from in early July, while most of their stock isn't arriving until 2022. The more I read and continue my research, the more doubts I'm having about picking that particular bike. Main concerns:

1.  Overpaying for beginner quality components, especially the front shock being coil spring, because of the Trek name.

2. The rear hub is not really a standard size at 141, so upgrading will be difficult.

3. Concerned about long-term or even short-term durability. Will a couple hundred $ upgrade give me a much more reliable bike.

I want to do a mixture of trail, single track, and possibly a small amount of downhill. Budget around $1,500 if possible, max $2,000, could possibly stretch that a little further if needed. I'm okay with either Hardtail or FS.
 
Open to any and all suggestions, and I know that actually finding a bike in stock may be one of the biggest issues right now.

Beginner Bike Doubts and Recommendations

A ton of bang for your buck and within your budget. The nucleus can come in a 29er and has modern, slack geometry, hydraulic brakes, a one by drive train, and an air fork. It also has internal cable routing for a dropper post if you would want to get one. Only seven hundred dollars

So I know there is shortage in mountain bikes. I am looking to get one late this season or early next season. Originally I was going to get a Canadian tire (basically a Walmart) or a Costco bike Reddit and other places quickly talked me out of that. I am currently considering the Giant Talon 2, Giant Talon 1, or the Trek Marlin 6. However I am willing to put down 1000$ CAD if there is a good FS bike available. I am open to other hard tails just not something impossible to get my hands on please. Also would be willing to build one if that’s something people do (come from working on anything from PCs to cars). The reason I am considering the FS is basically to future proof like I don’t want to be stopped from doing jumps and drops because I have a hardtail. First time buying a legit bike. Thanks in advance!

I'm looking at buying a used bike because I'm new to the craft. Given the current market, there's not much in the used market for under $1200 (my max budget). However, I stumbled upon a genuine seller who managed to keep a 2011 black forest 29er 4.0 in almost mint condition. It has zero signs of wear outside of seat adjustments. It's hard to find information on a bike this old, so I'm curious if anyone can share experience or information on this bike.

Seller is asking $800, but I feel this is extremely steep given the age of the bike. Fork appears to be in excellent shape, frame is too.

Are there comparable bikes on the market for $800? Is $800 a fair asking price, bicyclebluebook clocks it in much lower (around $500) but I'm unfamiliar with the accuracy of this tool.
