 Whether you're using this as a resort powder ski or a backcountry ski, doesn't matter. That metal plate really does a good job, doesn't take up too much weight either. The soft snow is just where these things live, so you really want to make sure that you're getting there

 And to get it more stable, they've added this metal plate to the center portion of the ski, so it doesn't only function as a mounting zone, but also is a structural metal plate as well. So underfoot, this thing's going to be pretty solid, definitely helps out on firmer snow. Whether you're using this as a resort powder ski or a backcountry ski, doesn't matter. That metal plate really does a good job, doesn't take up too much weight either

i need some help deciding which backcountry skis to buy. I have been skiing the Volkl Gotama the past seven years, and they are totally fine for what they are - i only use them for resorting and off-piste. The Gotamas are really nice in deep powder, but they aren’t that playful and fun. I find them a bit to stiff, and not very agile. Its also worth noting that we don’t get deep powder every week, so it would be nice to have something that also works for harsher conditions. I currently have a pair of Salomon QST pro 100 boots that works fine for skinning, and i have decided on the Salomon Shift bindings. I will probably use them 70/30 resorting and skinning. Im 180cm and weight in at 80kg. I don’t have much experience skinning and i know weight is important, but i don’t feel like going narrower than 95 (feel free to argue against me).

New backcountry skis

So the brand claims that these are going to be a really great 50-50 touring resort ski. They're light, they're nimble, they're going to be really fun no matter what you're doing on them, and they're going to tour uphill reasonably well

Head Kore 93’s, Blizzard bonafide 97’s, Icelantic Nomad 95’s, or Völkl blaze 94’s?

 And it does all of that incredibly well. Just being a wood core with some isocell foam in here, this ski remains super, super light and pretty nimble. It goes into the turn with very little effort. Holds very, very well on kind of those medium to longer radius turns

 And that's what I really, really like about this thing. 106 underfoot it's definitely aimed at your advanced to expert level skier who is going to be spending a lot of their time off trail but is still going to be railing groomers on bluebird days as well. And it does all of that incredibly well. Just being a wood core with some isocell foam in here, this ski remains super, super light and pretty nimble

Looking for advice - Line Vision 108 vs Volkl Blaze 106

 But Ali skied them then. So we've been testing them for quite a while. I was lucky enough to get on the Blaze 106. I've skied the 94 and the 106 now

 It kind of depends on how you're standing on the ski and how you're skiing that day. It's going to react differently. Totally. Different for different skiers too

 But I wouldn't be surprised if people mount a Duke PT on them because then you just get endless confidence and sense and stuff like that. I think it's a better ski than the 98 and the 108 for touring application and just basically for everything else. And then the other thing about that metal plate and the lengths that we had talked about was that it's the same. The metal plate on the 186 is the same length as the 165

 Like they're crazy light. They're in the alpine freeride category but they could easily stand up against pure touring skis by weight. So I think it's going to be a really good choice for a kingpin or a Duke PT even. I think the Duke PT is maybe heavier than this ski is
