Vortex Diamondback 10x42 Binoculars

 But also I like the Nikon Monarch M5 or M7 (Check REI or B&H Photo for possible deals). I’d go for 10x42 if you plan to get the tripod, but if no tripod then I suggest 8x42 (much less shake imo).

  As far as the optics, they are good but not what I would call fantastic. There is clarity but not an impressive amount crisp definition or color "pop out". If you are coming from a $40 bino to these you'll probably be quite impressed. If you are comparing these to other mid-range binoculars, you probably won't be disappointed but not overly impressed either

Very durable and of great quality for the price!

 I recommend either Vortex Diamondback HD 10x42 ($250 at Cabela’s) or Nikon Prostaff P7 10x42 ($199 at REI). These are both well known reputable brands.

Just gonna be honest here and say any binocular under $100 is going to be shite. You need to budget at least $250 and get a name brand like Nikon or Vortex. Great Optics - Fix two minor issues please

I absolutely love my Monarchs. They're integral for work (seabirds) and I use and/or wear them 8+ hours a day during the field season. I wouldn't be looking to replace them, if I hadn't managed to put a couple big gouges in the left front lens by bouncing them off a granite boulder while scrambling up a cliff face to reach my blind.

The alignment is (somehow) still fine, and I probably *could* keep using them, but I can't rely on damaged bins to not break when I'm multiple hours of boat or air travel from civilization. And rather than sending my bins to Nikon to fix, I'm planning on buying a new pair and bringing the old ones as emergency backup. 

I'm pretty happy with the Monarchs, and would be perfectly okay with getting a second set, but I'm wondering if there's anything else 10x42 with ED/HD lenses in the $200-$300 range that is comparable and well liked. I can't currently make the step up in price to the $400+ range.

My main reason for looking at different brands is the 2-3 year lifespan that most of the seabird biologists I've met seem to get out of their bins. A lot of them also use Nikon Monarchs, but where I'm at financially, the no-fault repair/replacement from Vortex and Carson is really appealing.

Any thoughts?

Looking to replace my Nikon Monarch 5 10x42 and I'd love opinions on alternatives

 Heavier than the Eagle Optics pair I'd been used to. My only complaint, less than one month after purchasing one of the lens covers on the end (not-eye end) broke off. Then about two weeks after, I was walking with the binos around my neck and the other one just fell off; someone behind me said hey yeah dropped something and it was just the darn cover. I've been looking at getting a pair of binoculars for travel/hiking/birding that doesn't break the bank. I.e. is as cheap as reasonably possible, with a soft price ceiling of $200 or so.

I've had a bit of experience with borrowed Nikon T01 (8x21), Celestron UpClose G2 (8x40 porro) and Delta Entry 10x50. I'd like to get something better than those for myself. In terms of size I'd like general ballpark I arrived at is 25-32 objective lens and 8-10 magnification.

Shortlist of models I arrived at:

* Nikon Prostaff P3 10x30, *maybe* 8x30. It's a very new model that doesn't have many reviews out. Main standout seems to be a very wide FOV for its price and size (6.6° for the 10x, 8.7° for 8x). This is my current top choice as I don't see major flaws in it and it's just within what I can stretch my budget to.
* Bushnell Prime 8x32 or *maybe* 10x28. They are a bit cheaper than Prostaff P3 and other than smaller FOV don't seem to be all that different.
* Vortex Vanquish 8x26 or 10x26. A touch cheaper still, but not *that* small and it seems like smaller objective lenses would compromise a fair bit on light gathering without giving much back due to bulkier porro design.
* Nikon Aculon A30 8x25 or maybe even 10x25. This is a bit out of left field - not waterproof and quite narrow FOVs, but on the other hand it's really cheap and really compact... Not sure if it's worth the compromise as it doesn't seem to be much of an upgrade over the Nikon T01 I already tried.

I've seen a fair bit of discussion of 8x vs 10x, but at least in my hands I don't seem to have all that much trouble keeping the larger magnification steady or finding whatever I want in slightly more limited FOV. With respect to size - I just don't mind low light performance being decidedly average if I can have a binocular that's like half the weight otherwise.

Am I missing something obvious here? Do you have some pointers?

Thanks for help. Ultimately I got the Bushnell Prime 8x32. It&#39;s image quality was &quot;good enough&quot; while long eye relief actually made using it while wearing my glasses a sensible option. It was also basically cheapest brand name 8x32 that checked all the basic requirements like waterproofing or nitrogen filling.
