 I would just say trust me that is a good thing. You do not want a touch screen on your watch if you can help it. Imagine for example like trying to swim and having a wet watch screen that you can't navigate through or can't adjust because it's wet or anytime it rains. I'll just say trust me you don't really want a touch screen

 Does this watch with this touchless transition feature really have enough value towards it that you would pick it over something else? I hope that that will give you guys enough information to make an informed decision about the Wahoo Element Rival. It is probably time for you guys to get out there, swim, bike, run, rinse, and then repeat it all over again.  I have their Wahoo Kickr. I use their bike computer. I'd love to see them iterate on this watch product. I am excited that they are considering triathletes as a viable market

Wahoo Elemnt Rival Review After A Month

Looking at buying a bike computer. Currently just using my Samsung galaxy  watch with the strava app. It's fine but you have to physically  click the watch to look at speeds ect.. 
I have a Samsung galaxy flip phone which no brand makes handle bar mounts for, so that's out.. 

I have looked at the garman 830 and 1030 but am open to suggestions  on what other like..

bike computers. what do you have ?

  Tl;dr, the lack of quality made me return the watch.  I'm not fussed with the lack of software features of the Rival as though I have measured sleep and HRV for recovery for a few years, I rarely act on the advice given to me from my wearables. I find the featureset on the Rival adequate and believe that it should be plenty for the majority of users. My only issues are with the quality of the product as compared to competing brands as well as the ELMNT bike computers which in and of themselves are top notch products in terms of hardware and software

Great Ideas, Could have Better Execution - Ultimately Returned It

 So it's as simple as pressing the middle button on the right on the home screen. And we'll go into some detail into what these actually do later but we've obviously got cycling, the kicker indoor smart trainers, strength, yoga, triathlon has a really nice new feature that we'll go into in a second. Running, treadmill sessions, lap swimming and open water swimming. So once you've chosen a profile the watch is then set to that mode until you change it again which is obviously very simple

 And that's why I've been using the Element Bolt since it came out in 2017. As you'd imagine setting the watch up is a really simple task and it takes less than 5 minutes with a quick QR code that pops up on the screen and you do that via the Element Companion app. As with their bike computers it's really easy to customise and configure all the settings on the watch via the Element Companion app. And I've always thought this was just a great decision from Wahoo as it's much easier to set things up on a big screen on your phone

 So as the brand are built around simplicity as soon as you pick it up it's really intuitive to use and it almost feels like you've been using it for weeks already. I have a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt and Garmin Edge 830 and the Wahoo is just sitting there not being used because the Garmin is higher end and I like Garmin Connect for all of my exercise.

Why a Wahoo over a Garmin Edge?

Watch is nice, has structured training capabilities, but GPS precision is bad, takes too much time to update speed and pace while running when doing intervals. If you want precision go for a suunto or garmin. I use it for training now, but when racing go back to my old suunto, it gives more precision in pace.

 Prior to Wahoo I was a Garmin user I had two Garmin bike computers that were both buggy out of the box and in 2016 I transitioned from Garmin to Wahoo this one right here actually and at the same time I purchased the Kickr that I still have. The element finally started playing up after four years of solid use and look I couldn't complain after four years it's an electronic and I took it through snow rain you name it so four years I was pretty happy. And the Kickr is still going strong I've never had an issue in fact it fell out of the back of my wife's car at Christmas time this year and landed on the concrete you can see some marks there and it's still going strong and I've migrated my bike computer now from the old element to the Rome. But the thing is about the rival this watch here is I feel that it has the same feel and the same characteristics as what I've experienced with Wahoo products

 Now full transparency, Wahoo are not paying me for this video, it's not sponsored, this is the first time they'll see it. However they did send me the watch, it's mine in return for a review, however please know after being a Wahoo user myself for many many years even prior to having a YouTube channel, it was my relentless proactiveness sending lots and lots of emails Wahoo's way and they finally gave in giving me some access to some products which started last year when Wahoo gave me access to the Kickr Bike which I had for five weeks in the end and you can watch that video somewhere up there but the point I'm trying to make here is I am an organic Wahoo fan, you'll understand why at the end of this video but when Wahoo sent me this watch and after I took my head out of all the things that I was doing at the time and started to research the watch I was left scratching my head. Why have Wahoo sent me this watch? Because as it stands today and things may change in the future, this watch is positioned as a multi-sport watch with a unique strength being touchless transition in triathlon meaning you can go from swim to bike to run without having to stuff around and press buttons on your watch. Apparently using motion technology the watch or GPS signal picks up whether you're swimming, whether you're running, whether you're biking, whether you're in transition so you can just focus on being a triathlete but therein lies the problem

 The watch can drop out a little bit at times. But after connecting the heart rate I then realized I had a backup bike computer because this does get me a lot. That's right you forget to charge your bike computer and your ride doesn't end up on Strava. Now clearly for any high intensity interval training work you're not going to use the watch you're going to use an app like Zwift or say the Sufferfest and you can broadcast your rival heart rate to those training apps

 In the mornings I like to be phone free so I'm away from all the distractions and pop-ups that come on my phone so now I can control the trainer with my watch, set my favorite Netflix or YouTube show and off I go. Number three is actually three things combined that is Wahoo is robust, reliable and easy to use. So full transparency I am not a watch guru this is the first time I've ever done a watch review on the channel and to boost my watch review confidence for the future make sure you give the video a like if you've gotten value out of it today. But the thing is I know Wahoo products I know they're easy to use I know they're reliable and I know they are robust

 The button layout is a five button configuration that you'll find on a lot of fitness watches like this. The back and sides of the Wahoo Element Rival are made completely out of plastic, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It does add to its lightweight nature. The Wahoo Element Rival comes in at $379, which for a watch designed like this with this rugged appearance, is actually not a bad price

 But this is their first entry into the wearable market with a GPS watch and it's pretty clever what they did with the name here, the Element Rival, because it's pretty obvious who their target is here and it rhymes with Schmarmann. So does the Wahoo Element stand a chance in an already flooded GPS watch market? Let's find out.
