  I contacted Whynter about repairs on the older one, which is out of warranty. It would have cost about $250 round trip shipping and repair, to send it to them. For the new one, I just re-read the warranty, and found some interesting information. If you need warranty repair in the first two months, they pay shipping

 Is this a normal limitation for A/C units? One of the main reasons I bought it was to cool down the room when the temperature is above 90 degrees.  AUG 29, 2021 update: Having used it for the summer, I got a better understanding of the excess current problem. When the temperature is below about 90 degrees, then the unit will perform OK and pull current within the specs most of the time. If the temperature is above 90 degrees, that's when trouble starts and current draw is excessive (heating up the outlet and wiring as I described above)

If your goal is to reduce your temperature from the 80's down a few degrees, then OK, but that's about all it's good for

 And the warranty on the compressor is three years.  If you buy one of these, or a similar model, from Whynter, you may want to keep all the above in mind, for safety, and to hold your expenses down.  And one more thing.

 So those tubes will put more heat in the room which means the rooms coolness will be reduced. You will need to fork over another $100 to buy a sleeves/covers to reduce the heat coming off the 2 tubes. Whyntner should've have included those covers in the package it would have been cheap and good buisness for this company to do that for it's customers . Unless you are handy with a sewing machine you will need to add an extra $100 bucks to your bill to purchace the covers

Constant whirring sound when unit is turned off

Two big hoses suck not that powerful don't like it shuts off by itself and does not turn on until you turn it on come home from it isn't running and hot in house do not like this unit at all keep shopping if looking for portable ac update even bigger piece of crap then I thought

 The good news is after seeing how much the electric bill went down, this unit will pay for itself within the first year.  The noise level might be like having a medium size rotary fan from back in the day on the highest setting. I would prefer it to make less noise but the fan blows 100% of the time. When the AC kicks on the sound changes it gets a little bit louder, but we have gotten used to it

The remote control is a nice feature and gives full control, but seems to not communicate with unit consistently, sometime you have to press a button twice, which will then cause the unit to catch up. I don't know if it's a delay in the device, a user error (such as the angle of me holding the remote to the unit, most likely) or a malfunctioning remote

I had to engineer the window kit

 This one was super easy to install (we already had the window kit in place for the last unit). I only use the outtake hose as I have no need to pull in (hot) air from outside.  Noise: This unit is so much more quiet than our last one that I thought the compressor wasn't on. Since we have our's near the TV, noise was a big issue and this one is much better for that purpose

I'm almost 78 years old and just not able to lift things as well as I used to.
