 The tablet market isn't that hyped anymore as it was a couple of years ago, but still companies like Samsung, Huawei and Apple release a new tablet or a new version every once in a while and so did Xiaomi with its new Mi Pad 4. That is in my eyes a pretty perfect companion for at home and on the go, so let's get started. Here at home we have many interesting and smart gadgets to take control of our house, but controlling all of them from your phone can be annoying especially if you cannot share a device or the application isn't that smart from a smart gadget. Anyways to solve that problem and to make it easier for everyone we decided to get the Mi Pad 4 to have a device that we can share and use to control the smart lightning for example to watch Netflix on TV or in bed or to read and play a game in the train to watch work

 Here at home we have many interesting and smart gadgets to take control of our house, but controlling all of them from your phone can be annoying especially if you cannot share a device or the application isn't that smart from a smart gadget. Anyways to solve that problem and to make it easier for everyone we decided to get the Mi Pad 4 to have a device that we can share and use to control the smart lightning for example to watch Netflix on TV or in bed or to read and play a game in the train to watch work. Now one of the many reasons why I like the Mi Pad 4 so much is because of the battery life and that's first of all because of the standby time because if you enable Wi-Fi it drops about 1% every 4 hours resulting that per day you lose around 3 to maximum 4% of your battery which is just amazing. The second thing why I like the battery life so much is because it lasts for quite a long time when you play a game, so if you play PUBG for example expect a loss of around 15% for every hour of games with medium brightness settings, so in total you could play around for 6 to 7 hours

 Now if you combine some reading playing games browsing the web and watching Netflix anywhere between 10 to 12 hours of on-screen time is pretty normal to achieve and therefore the battery life is incredibly good. Now part of this good battery life is coming from the Snapdragon 660 found inside that handles things really well. Everything is good and fast and it just feels so smooth and snappy. Gaming is also just a pleasure with good frame rates, rarely a stutter and the tablet didn't get hot at all just a little bit next to the camera over here

Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 Review | A Great Companion 🔥

Excellent semi-budget Android Tablet

 My estimate, and remember this is just an estimate, is at least over 10 hours of continual on screen time so looking very good in terms of battery life, better than the Mi Pad 3. Alright so to quickly recap here we have a very decent tablet with a good build quality apart from my volume buttons rattle, that's just one thing with the build, it's very minor and minor slight annoyance there, otherwise the screen you could look at it, some people will say it's a downgrade from the retina panel but I don't see it that way, it is brighter, the sharpness okay it's not going to be as sharp because it's got a lower resolution but that is also going to aid the performance of things like games, gaming it seems to perform really well, PUBG is going perfectly fine, it's playable, the frame rate is good, you will see a couple of dips and stutters here and there, ROM performance is really good so recently they worked on the full gesture animation stutters and lags and bugs and things that I was seeing on the first devices that really got those ROMs and you swipe down for notifications and you'll see a bit of a stutter or when you were multitasking occasionally it will be a little bit stuttery there, it just wasn't 100% fluid and smooth but it's a lot better here, still not quite perfect, so there are different models, so you've got a 3GB RAM model so expect maybe it to be slightly slower but I've noticed not that much of a difference actually going from 4GB to 3GB and I know this is a fact because I have another Redmi Note 5 that's only got 3GB of RAM and 30GB of storage and honestly it's very hard to tell the difference in performance from my 4GB model and there is the model with LTE but just be aware that it's going to have very limited band support there, I know the bands that they normally typically use in China will actually work for me here in Spain so I will be okay, it may be able to also make voice calls but you will need to connect in a headset so you can obviously get a bit of privacy or something like that unless you don't mind using the loudspeaker and the microphones on board, you know because there's no earpiece that is missing with this, cameras turn out to be better than your typical average Chinese tablet, in fact you can record 4K with an open camera on the rear cam, I didn't expect that, charge times are looking to be about 3 hours, that is just a guess judging from what percentage I was gaining and looking at a GSAM battery meter there, same goes with battery life, I've only been able to test out for an hour or so, I just don't have time to get this video out and it is looking very promising so about 10 hours, so overall this is a solid great little tablet and the audio quality too is another thing that is positive, now you would think that if you're holding it like this you're going to block those speakers but you can still hear them well, you do of course block them a little bit, same goes for the wireless signal so we've got the antenna on the side but I noticed that when I put my hand right over at my palm I was still getting a good ping rate in PUBG so that's not going to affect their performance, I was a little bit worried about that and that's simply not the case here, so great to see micro SD card support, no micro HDMI out I feel is a bit of an error, I would have really liked to see micro HDMI out on this so I could connect it up to a TV there and that would probably be perfect, what would be even better of course would be GPS, compass support and a front facing finger scanner there so you can use fingerprint security instead of just relying on a pin code or the face unlocking which does work, it's fast but just remember it's not very secure. So the price of this, it's priced I feel reasonable for what it's offering and is it better than the Mi Pad 3, I think it is, it's definitely faster, the build, they're about the same, the quality of the speakers also about the same there, battery life, this gets the win as well, this is the one to go for, when I first got the Mi Pad 3, if you've seen my video from last year, it was an absolute disaster, there were bugs and glitches in gaming, it was a horrible stuttery mess and at least when they released this one, that's not the case because they've got a lot more experience of course with Qualcomm's chips, thank you so much for watching this review, I do hope to catch you back in the channel, I've got plenty more up and coming, there may possibly be a gaming video with this one here and maybe an update on the exact battery life that I'm able to achieve in my full battery testing.

 In fact I don't actually think that's focusing properly but you can't really expect a lot after all this is a tablet and still great to see the fact that we can record in 4K. Now for battery life I've done a little bit of testing so I don't have enough time to do my full test because I'm going to need at least 10 hours if not more because YouTube streaming for the brightness set at about 200 lux and not the brightest setting, I'm losing about 8% battery life for one hour so that's really good so it's looking very promising for on screen time here. Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 Review - A Definite Improvement (English)

For starters, a lot of people don't want to carry around a massive phone. I have a relatively large phone (6.5" I think, bigger than I'd like, but I had to buy it in a hurry), and my 8" tablet has almost double the screen real estate (due to the ratio).

I have tried larger tablets, but I find 8" (at 4:3 ratio) to be perfect for me. I have owned larger tablets (in fact I have a 10" iPad, but I use it for a specific purpose only) and find them far too bulky.

I mainly use my tablet in portrait mode (reading articles and books mainly), and the 8" size is comfortable to hold in one hand. It's also compact and easy to carry around. I simply have no need for a larger screen. I will use my laptop or PC if I need a larger screen.

Any tablet is too small for productivity in my opinion. I use proper computers for productivity. I wouldn't watch video on a tablet regardless of size when I have much larger screens available.

As /u/allak says, manufacturers don't seem to see the point of 8" tablets because nobody is making any good ones. I think I'll be using my Galaxy Tab S2 8" forever because they don't think there is a market for that form factor. There is literally no other tablet on the market with a 4:3 8" screen that is better than my ~5 year old S2 unfortunately.

1. 'big' phones use tall aspect ratio's meaning the increase in usable screen space is miniscule compared to a tablet using a traditional aspect ratio despite the listed screen size not being much bigger.
2. 11, 12, or 13" tablets are just not comfortable to hold and use for what what I consider a tablet use case... They are nice and big but when that means I can't comfortably one hand it kinda defeats the purpose.
3. 8" is perfect for a book replacement and big enough for graphic novels too.
4. 8" tend to give better gaming experience because they are not as unwieldy for games that need a touch screen but are still big enough you can stand it up and use a controller. Also many big phone controller fit them.
5. My best tablet experience was the 2nd generation Nexus 7 that married the perfect balance of price, performance, usability, and pocket-able size and I've been trying to find something as good as that for a while.

My first  tablet was a Nexus 7" 2013. I moved to the Samsung S 8.4, and then to the S2 8". I liked this series of Samsung tablets because of the technology , the low  price, the compact size and  light weight.

But apart from that? For productivity or media consumption it's just too small/doesn't have too much of an advantage over a phone. And as a compact e-reader? Why not get an actual e-reader for a better experience?

What's the point of 8" tablets?

I bought this purely for watching youtube and reading comics in bed. Bigger is better, and this is far and away the best >10" tablet you can get for less than a small fortune. The display is gorgeous and the build quality is solid. It may not have a flagship-class SoC, but for what I'm using it for, that's a complete non-issue

 It's certainly zippy enough that I've never noticed a slowdown watching videos, reading comics, or doing some occasional web browsing.

 The display is gorgeous and the build quality is solid. It may not have a flagship-class SoC, but for what I'm using it for, that's a complete non-issue. It's certainly zippy enough that I've never noticed a slowdown watching videos, reading comics, or doing some occasional web browsing.

The best big tablet that doesn't cost a fortune

 They've removed most of the bloat. It seems to be well optimized and touch response as mentioned. A little bit better. It feels just a little bit quicker and snappier

5 millimeter headphone jack, so this is one of the tablets that does have it, which is good because there's manufacturers dropping it. The output from it is very good, so it's just like Xiaomi's mobile phones. It's something they do very good. They're analog, 3

 So with the second model here, of course, now I have LTE. Now there is no LTE band 20 for those that need it. So just bear that in mind that you might not get good speeds. You might be stuck on only 3G, which could be a little bit unfortunate

5 millimeter out, it does support microphones. There's no static over the line either. And then along the bottom we've got a Type-C port here that does not support video out. Unfortunately on this tablet there is no HDMI out whatsoever

Mi Pad 4 Review 10 Months Later Still The Best

They had a very good tablet, the Mi Pad 4. I thought another one should be coming. Now they want high-end tablets. I bet they will make them 10 inches or more to rival Samsung and Apple. I just want an 8 inches tablet with good specs and at least 64 GB storage (and a microSD slot too).

Been waiting to see a proper successor to my Mi Pad 1. It was a freaking powerhouse when it launched, and to this day, I haven't seen another tablet at that price point offering a comparable screen and power. However, the Mi Pad 5 will probably be priced higher up. My search for a tablet with the same bang for the buck at this price bracket continues.

P.S. The Mi Pad still works just fine, however the 32-bit architecture and 2GB of RAM limit what I can do with it.

I'm looking for a tablet that is budget friendly, and I want to use it for mainly photo/video editing and digital art. I'd love to use it as an e reader too but that's not a requirement. I heard the s7 lite is a good device but thought I'd ask the community here! :) thanks
