 Why do certain guitars sound really good when they're strung through the body? Because it allows the whole body to get into the vibration and tone generating of that instrument. So what you have here on the BB, they come through on a 45-degree angle on the back. We did make the bridge capable of top loading. So if you're a top loader person, we can do that as well

 The other thing that we did is, thanks to our friend Billy Sheehan, is we took this design right off of his bass. So the Billy Sheehan Attitude bass has a six-bolt neck for stability for him, because he likes to throw his bass around. But we found out that the benefit for the customer is that it pulls the neck tighter into the body. So tighter into that pocket, so you actually get a better transference of tone that way

The Yamaha I played in the store felt a lot better to my untrained hands than even the Fender Player Jazz basses that were next to it.  The action was very low, and the strings didn't really buzz much.  The neck wasn't too thin or thick, either.  

I actually didn't even know that Yamaha made basses.  Does anyone know if they have a good reputation outside of the one I played in the store today?

I'm new to bass, and I just tried a Yamaha BB434 bass at a store, and it felt really nice. What is the consensus on Yamaha bass guitars?

I’m not all that knowledgable with basses beyond understanding that the P-Bass is the staple for pop and rock while the J-Bass is best for R&amp;B and funk.

I’ve currently been using a MIM Fender Deluxe Active Jazz V, but I’m not very happy with it. I hate the active circuitry, and each string seems to sound like a completely different instrument. 

I’ve been thinking about the American Professional II Precision Bass V as it’s passive and the EQ isn’t scooped like a Jazz, but I wonder if the pickups being asymmetrical (i.e., 3-pole and 2-pole) would also suffer from those cohesion issues between different registers. That’s also the absolute most I’d be willing to pay. 

What other good options are there? I’m looking for an all-rounder, but it will mainly be used for progressive rock and hip hop/rap. Humbuckers? PJ?

Which 5-string for recording?

 The only issue with the bass is that the J pickup is a bit noisy, but if you roll it down 1/4, the noise goes away.  Other than that, I'm very satisfied with the bass. I had a very small issue with the shipping that the seller, GearTree, was very quick to resolve to my satisfaction. Superb customer service
